Powerpoint 2013 - pause/crash when opening a hyperlink

Just come across this one today - very odd.

Brand new presentation, put a hyperlink to Google in, click on it. Nothing - the cursor spins, eventually Powerpoint crashes. If I hit Escape, the link opens as expected. Same on domain accounts, my admin account, etc.

I can't fathom it out, wondering if anyone else can test this on their setups?

Have you tried updating office, or a re-install.

Does it happen for all users, or on local accounts? maybe a policy is blocking it.

Check IE security settings as well.

Its got to be simple.

Try running powerpoint via commandline with /safe on the end, It'll disable all addins/plugins blah blah. Quick and easy test to see if it's third party related etc :)

It happens on my PC, which has fully patched Office 2013 SP1, no relevant Group Policies and I'm logged in as local admin. IE isn't actually firing up unless I Escape PP, so I suspect a PP issue rather than IE. I agree that it'll be something simple though.

It could be an add-on, but there shouldn't be any installed at all.

No, no Smart software installed. It happens on a wide variety of machines - even my very basic Windows 8.1 test VM which doesn't have much on it at all (logged on locally with no user GPs).
