north-ict Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 So my friends ask me to be his best man! So i have to come up with something good for a stag do. He doesn't want any strippers, boozy things and stuff just some fun activities that can be done. So any suggestions would be awesome I don't think it will be possible to go abroad or anything. Most of the peeps are based in london. Now i have till august to prepare the best mans speech.......
X-13 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Paintballing is always fun. I mean... What chance do you usually get to shoot your friends? 1

ascott2 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I said I didn't want the boozy stag do, that disn't stop my best man arranging a trip to Romania for an alcohol fuelled weekend. Was one of the best weekends ever so maybe take what he says with a pich of salt ;-)

Iain.Faulkner Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Monopoly? Monopoly pub crawl? :-) I had mine this last Saturday night and although not exactly what people now see as being a traditional stag do (we didn't go abroad, we didn't do anything like go-karting/paintballing etc, me and a load of mates simply went out did a few hours drinking and then went for a curry), it was exactly what I wanted, was cheap so lots of people could attend and was nicely restrained so I didn't end up a drunken mess (and on that basis my Dad felt comfortable coming as well) :-) Paintballing/go-karting/quad biking etc are all very well and good, but why not do something different....zorbing? Comedy night is always good as well. 1
sippo Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 A Stag do without booze?! Are you on a wind up?! I'm off to Krakow in may. Much cheaper and better than anything in the uk.
IrritableTech Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 On recent stag do's I have been go karting twice, visited an adventure place where we shot air rifles, did some quad biking and something called "power turns" (basically a car with forward and back joysticks powering each wheel), and last but not least did a survival weekend. The weekend wood survival course was my favourite, and wasn't very boozy. I'm getting married next year, someone suggested the top gear challenge type stag dos. Buy a car for less than £100 and drive it to a destination, doing a couple of challenges on the way. There are companies who arrange them, or you could do it yourself. 1

AngryTechnician Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Personally I find outdoor laser tag to be more fun than paintball, as for novices in particular it removes the frustration of being 1-shotted right at the start of a round. A lot of the paintball places do it now as an alternative. Also means that if you happen to be going to a swimming pool immediately afterwards you won't get strange looks from everyone for being covered in welts, like we were at one stag do I attended. Go Ape is also really good fun if there's one near you. 1
sonofsanta Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Laser Quest is a good cheap alternative to paintballing, cos by the gods, the costs there add up quickly. Even more fun if you smuggle bottles of beer in. There's one place up in Cleethorpes that is the most low-rent, scabby place you can imagine - the lasers look like converted Bosch power drills - but it's full of bouncy castles and ball pools and slides as well, it is brilliant. Could always go for a long hike somewhere round Wales or the Peak District if you're so inclined? Or hire a canal boat, then some of you can get drunk and your sober friends can steer 1
sidewinder Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Go Ape is also really good fun if there's one near you. Seconded. So much fun, though not so sure about for a stag do If you want laser tag try Adrenalin Rush - Welcome to the Frontpage - that is run at our school sports ground in Chiswick 1
IrritableTech Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 If you have any details on the weekend survival weekend that would be awesome i will check it up later on when i get home too. The one we went on was run by a guy called Mike Armstrong near Keighley, West Yorkshire. He was really good, but his web skills weren't. His site was at bushtruck.co.uk, but the only archive I can find is here... bushcraft home of bushtruck It's got a telephone number on there so you might be able to get hold of them? We almost had Adam from BBC country file coming to film us on the weekend too, but they cancelled at the last minute. Must have been a cattle emergency that week or something. 1

That's why I've suggested Monopoly or Scrabble. A stag do is meant to be exciting / dangerous / stupid. Take him to Amsterdam, get drunk, then cling-film him naked to a lamp-post in the red-light district and put the pictures on FaceBook.
Admiral208 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 couple of ideas... clay pigeon shooting I went to this thing called 'Go Ape' the other week, basically high ropes in a forest but it was really good fun. 1
Greenbeast Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 My stag was quite sedate, just a few drinks and a curry, just what i wanted. I would not have been impressed had my best men planned something like the usual. I would however have enjoyed some kind of paintball/survival/etc thing edit: there's always next time round! 1
Pete10141748 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Armourgeddon - paintball, but using tanks and other military hardware. Armourgeddon the home of Tank Paintball 1

DrCheese Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) Personally I find outdoor laser tag to be more fun than paintball, as for novices in particular it removes the frustration of being 1-shotted right at the start of a round Yeah, I did paintballing a few weeks ago and it's damn annoying to be knocked out quickly, especially as the downtime between games at the place I was playing at was pretty long (4 different game modes/8 rounds in total) It's also pretty expensive as well, as even if you try to conserve ammo you'll end up needing to spend a fair amount to enjoy yourself. It was a fun day out & the pain wasn't as bad as some people say (tho the 4 layers of clothing to beat the -5c weather helped!) but I wouldn't do it for someones stagdo just a few drinks and a curry, Curry is the way forward. My fav nights out are when we all get back together (A lot of my friends are spread about around the country now) and have a flaming hot curry with lots of beer. Edited March 19, 2012 by DrCheese 1
