TBH the initial surge of people using it will mean the service gets swapped. Once its a bit more mainstream I think it will be ok IMHO.

No unlimited data strikes me as a worrying precedent - the whole idea with 4G is to have more internet everywhere, so choking it like this seems like short term gain, long term loss to me, particularly to the economy as a whole. (not that EE would care about anything other than their own bottom line, ofc, no company would)

This is true, and when you actually think about it, apart from when im out and about im nearly always on wireless!....

I liked the quote in the BBC story:

"We really think we've priced it at the sweet spot," chief executive Olaf Swantee told BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones.

 

"It's all based on months of consumer research."

Which roughly translates to "we've withheld our 4G network for months to work consumers up into a rabid slather, eager to splurge whatever few pennies are left from their benefits on our entirely unnecessary and unreasonably expensive 4G plan just so's they can show off to their mates. Seriously, have you seen these prices? We are laughing our socks off in our offices right now. The Pope sells indulgences for cheaper than we're selling a gigabyte of data."

 

EDIT: that article also slips in that they're launching their own on-demand service which doesn't count towards the data cap. Which is their reasoning right there, plain as day.

If you actually look at the usage you are using. On my Samsung S3 - I would class myself as a medium/heavy user (4 email accounts synced - facebook, twitter and updates are done via 3g etc etc). I used 1.6Gb of data from 16 Sept to 16th Oct with 850mb of that being when I was using it as a Tether.

I think I'm paying £66 per month atm for 1Gb on 3G - but then I've got a 64Gb iPhone 4S AND a 32Gb iPad for that which cost me £0 upfront. I'm not due to upgrade for another 18 months or so, I'm with Orange now. The pricing is "interesting" but doesn't give me any indication of what renewing my contract will do? I'd like to see prices on new iPhone/iPad bundle deals on a 4G contract.

 

But I suppose it's all academic as the likelihood of Norfolk getting a 4G signal in the next 5 years must be slim

 

EDIT: I don't actually use the 1Gb at all in any month right now, most of my data is through WIFI at work/home with some web/e-mail on the move.

horrible website! but some of the plans look good for when it reaches my area!

 

edit: im paying £36 a month at the moment for 500mb, unlimited texts and 600 minutes on 3g with Orange so just on thier pricing for sim only id be saving about £15 almost tempting just to go for the 5 gb as its same price for better deal!

that is quite alot of money for only 1gb of data. im paying around about £24 to £26 a month for 1gb

That's the choice, £1584 over 2 years or £1200 up front and £40 a month for the 2 SIMS? and that's not taking call charges or data usage

 

 

EDIT: I suppose, what I'm getting at is that I'd happily pay £50-£70pcm for a 4G contract IF I got both devices free, even if that meant only 1Gb or 2Gb of data. And that's the detail that's missing from their website at the moment.
