jthompson Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Some interesting Google Meet features in development - https://support.google.com/a/table/7539891?hl=en&ref_topic=6397987 No idea of release dates, but they're working on hand-raising, polls, Q&A, breakout rooms and more moderation controls, including invite-only meetings.
Theblacksheep Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Some features will be exclusive to the Enterprise for Education edition.
paulkerton Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Some features will be exclusive to the Enterprise for Education edition. Which?
paulkerton Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 (edited) NDA'd at the moment. Well in that case I'm going to speculate the following Hand-raising - Edu Moderation controls - Edu Invite-only - Edu Polls - Enterprise for Edu Q&A - Enterprise for Edu Breakout rooms - Enterprise for Edu Noise cancelling - Could go either way Of course, the Q&A and Polls part you could replicate with Forms and/or Slides so, not a biggy. jthompson Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 Well in that case I'm going to speculate the following Hand-raising - Edu Moderation controls - Edu Invite-only - Edu Polls - Enterprise for Edu Q&A - Enterprise for Edu Breakout rooms - Enterprise for Edu Noise cancelling - Could go either way Of course, the Q&A and Polls part you could replicate with Forms and/or Slides so, not a biggy. Features that are exclusive to Enterprise for Education so far seem to be things that involve more server-side resources (recording, livestreaming, bigger meetings) rather than simply "nicer = £££", so yeah, your speculations there feel about right.
jthompson Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 @paulkerton bang on with your predictions! https://www.blog.google/outreach-initiatives/education/new-meet-features-for-edu/ In terms of timing, it's "over the next few months". Here's hoping they'll be ready for us to play with ahead of September.

Here's hoping they'll be ready for us to play with ahead of September. Well, would you look at that. I didn't have inside information or anything! It was just the logical way it landed for me. Most of those features in Enterprise are things we won't necessarily need, so it's nice to see that Google isn't putting something I'd consider a "key" feature behind a paywall.
PatrickMartin Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Yes but ... I read that Google post to mean that several of the features that I'd like to have available in our modest primary school will be held back for Enterprise customers only. I I know that I can get attendance from Audit logs, create breakout rooms with calendar appointments or multiple Classrooms, Q&A from Slides and polling from Forms. But I'm the lone nerd trying to encourage dispersed colleagues, who were stressed enough before they all had to start teaching Y6 in class as well as run their own classes remotely. The fact that they, and our families, have made a success of Classroom and G Suite from absolute scratch was largely down to its relative ease of use and functionality, and the speed with which Google have over-delivered on making premium features in Meet etc part of the free product (I know, to fight off Zoom and Teams). We don't have the tech admin support to turn audit logs into attendance registers or prepare lots of resources - perversely it's the smallest schools for whom some of the premium features could have the biggest impact. I guess I'm rehearsing an argument I should address to the Googleplex. But do older wiser heads here think Google are likely to hand out more of the goodies for free again, or should I be looking at Enterprise? Cheers, Patrick Martin https://www.blog.google/outreach-initiatives/education/new-meet-features-for-edu/ For G Suite Enterprise for Education customers, we’re also releasing several premium features: attendance tracking to provide a record of which students joined the class, breakout rooms so educators can split classes into smaller groups, Q&A to provide a way for students to ask questions without disrupting the flow of the class discussion or lesson, and polling to engage students to share their voice.
jthompson Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 Enterprise for Edu is heavily discounted the the moment though. Like, orders of magnitude cheaper). Have seen prices under £2 per staff user per year, where the regular price is listed on their website as $48. I think Google are going really aggressive against Zoom, trying to reach feature parity and keep hold of schools, whilst not pissing off existing Enterprise for Education customers. 1

Here's hoping they'll be ready for us to play with ahead of September.I have a feeling they will release October. There is mention of "up to sept 30". It's all finger in the air jobby at the moment. I'm in the frame of mind of if the new features meet our expectations we will stay with meet otherwise we will look else where. They have had enough time to develop and play catch up. Who's to say what will happen sept though regards schools. Sept is still 2 and a half months away. 1
PatrickMartin Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Thanks for the responses folks. I will look again at Enterprise for Edu pricing. I hadn't realised that the student licences were free. I don't suppose that you could point me at any of these discounting resellers, could you?
jthompson Posted June 30, 2020 Author Posted June 30, 2020 On further investigation, the pricing I saw was a typo. At 2h44m in , there's a slide showing a price of £1.75 per user per year, but it's actually per month (this has been confirmed for us by the presenter himself). It does still represesnt a special offer price until the end of July, just not quite as special as it first appeared! 1
caffrey Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Noise cancellation is out https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/06/remove-background-noise-google-meet.html Enterprise only
paulkerton Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Noise cancellation is out https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/06/remove-background-noise-google-meet.html Enterprise only It requires a lot of backend processing, it doesn't surprise me.
timbo343 Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Some features in Gsuite for Education coming: mute all feature - does this stop users / attendees unmuting themselves or are they able to unmute once muted? calendar invites - are these still open before and after the event in the updated version? when are these new features such as hand raising coming out? They say that enterprise features such as recording are available until 30th September 2020. What happens to recording after this date on standard education version? Is this now a paid enterprise version?
paulkerton Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 when are these new features such as hand raising coming out? In Q3 or Q4. They say that enterprise features such as recording are available until 30th September 2020. What happens to recording after this date on standard education version? Is this now a paid enterprise version? It always was a paid enterprise feature. It was released for free during the Covid crisis, and is returning to the paid version on 1st October. 1

No worries, they have just published Edited July 15, 2020 by timbo343
paulkerton Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 £3.50 per faculty member per month for individual pricing. £1.75 per user per month for all faculty staff as an introductory price till the end of the year for site wide licensing. Students will get the Enterprise features avaialble to them for free if you do site-wide. I think that introductory price is held for 3 years too, but don't quote me on that.
Theblacksheep Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Minimum 15% of faculty need licences too. Ridiculous pricing from Google.
Zammo Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Minimum 15% of faculty need licences too. Ridiculous pricing from Google. Why is that ridiculous? 1

The introductory price was previously only available until the end of July, so they've extended that to the end of the year now. I suspect the schools who are weighing this up will have been wanting to see what the autumn brought before pulling the trigger, so that's nice.
paulkerton Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Ridiculous pricing from Google. Really? OK so let's have a look at the advertised pricing and compare it with Microsoft 365 A3, which is the comparable product from Microsoft that would allow you to have the recording and streaming features. Let alone the unlimited originality reports, smart search, the Windows device management you also get for the price. So, Let's say 150 staff and 1500 kids, and let's license it side-wide. Google - £1.75 per faculty member per month for full site licensing. £0 per student per month. £3,150 a year When the price increases to £3.50 after the offer ends (which I believe is 3 years from when you sign up) £6,300 a year Microsoft - £2.85 per faculty member per month. £2.20 per student per month. £42,750 a year Zoom - Doesn't advertise it's Education costs online, so that bodes well. However let's use their SME costs. £15.99 a month per host £28,782 a year So, do I wanna save £22,482 or do I wanna save £36,450 a year. Hmm. Or do I wanna save £67,446 or do I wanna save £109,350 over three years. Hmm. 🤔
timbo343 Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Rather than using Zoom, look at Webex meeting suite as an alternative / comparison. They have VERY competitive pricing.
