Shadow_Walker Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hi Been asked to look into printing ID Badges for the school i work at. All staff and pupils will need a badge so we are looking at over 1000 badges altogether. The checklist of what the badge needs to have is as follows Name or logo of the school Pupils name Pupils photo Pupils tutor group Pupils house name or house logo Now i have no idea where to begin on this. If i could link it to SIMS somehow then it would make it easier to get the pupils names and photos but still have no idea how i would get the design which he wants onto the card or the house logo. Would we be better outsourcing this or buying our own id badge printer? Anyone got any ideas how we could do this.
Steve21 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 We use a SIMs report to do it, put the template in, and then can run by all students/staff or individial ID etc Steve
Arreks Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 We just use a Zebra printer. We use a company to get RFID cards and program for us first.
APMerry Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 We used to use a company to print them but the quality wasn't the best. We now print onto synthetic paper in house. Image, Logo, name and department on the front, with emergency contact details on the back. We then place it into a card holder with a lanyard. Has been working well for us and the quality is really good from our MFDs.

Steve21 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Run the reports and just print to it. As long as the size etc is set correctly it prints fine We don't bother using the special card printing software on ours, just use the printer driver etc as a normal printer Steve

Can i set where the school logo pupils names etc can be placed. They are working on the design at the moment so need to know if it is possible. Thanks
Steve21 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Yep, it's just a mail-merge style word document. One sec lemme find ours to show example Steve 1
Steve21 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Like this, top is word document template (mail merge style) Second is output after printed to card Steve 1

Shadow_Walker Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Any companies that we could outsource this too. I need to get some ideas together for the deputy head
rad Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 First off the company, we use ID Card Centre (idcardcentre.co.uk), Ben O'Brien is the MD and has been at BETT when I have been in the past (didnt go this year so cant comment) and the support and advice is excellent. We use ID cards for Students and Staff printing on a Javelin printer. We use CardExchange software, this is set up for us and any issues are delt with easily by a simple call or email to Ben or his team. They also supply us the ID Cards we use for the students, we have a school moto/logo thing on the back. Printing is handled by the Librarians as we also have a barcode on them for library use, they dont have any issues with the printer or system and print cards daily. The data is all pulled from Sims, providing the information is there, I cant see any issues. For staff, we also pull names from Sims and link to Staff photos, the only thing they do manually is enter the name and job title. 1
