The 'new' concept of on demand TV shows via your broadband seems to be upsetting ISPs in the UK due to its ever growing bandwidth usage.
ISPs are claiming that the cost of needed infrastructure improvements, estimated at £830m should be paid for by the BBC due to its iPlayer service being the main culprit.
I don't understand this. Why should a company, which pays to host its servers like everyone else does, have to pay to upgrade infrastructure for other companies who have done everything
So, here I am, every other person in the school is on holiday but I'm still at work. Supervising people installing projectors until 7pm.
Yet people have the nerve to comment when I promptly leave at 4:30 during term time.
What I wouldn't give to be able to see 'Easter Holiday' or 'Summer Holiday' on the school calendar and not have to think 'well, I'll need to take down X to update Y' and 'I hope no muppets are in messing with things when I'm trying to recable the core cabinet'.

....or not in this case. One of my UPS' overloaded with perfect timing on Thursday night, taking the Web Server and the Citrix farm with it. So we had 4 days of downtime on the VLE. But it could of been worse, it could of been coming up to GCSE exams.
Now I'd like to fix this properly, I really would. But the particular place we've chosen to install this server rack has some issues with power distribution. Basically even if I did sort out the UPS I would have no where to run power to it.
So got sky installed on Monday. Thing is salesman insisted that we didn't need a bt line and that you didn't have to pay £11 a month... it's like £4... (lie)
"You have a BT Line", I'm pretty sure we don't... but whatever. (We don't have a BT line)
So gonna ring BT up and see how much it would be to activate a line. Is it £85??

Year 7, 8 and 9 I was taught by IT Teachers who only knew about MS Office applications, well they knew as much as the book they was reading from told them. I was disgusted that someone could call themselves an IT Teacher but when asked "How do I fix this problem?" they knew nothing, absolutely nothing, they not even know how to install RAM.

It amazes me even though I am in Year 10 how many people in my ICT Class are so immature. Doing things such as:
Causing error messages on your computer
Turning of the computer when you are doing important work
Modifying your startup folder so "Gay" pops up
Calling you "Gay"
Just being themselves.
I am guilty to the modifying startup folder but come one most of these things are what you do in Year 7. I can imagine them when they are like 30 years old still calling people Gay ju

For those of you who didn't know (because I haven't told many of you) I am moonlighting as an IT journalist, in fact, if you buy the next edition of PC Advisor and look at the helpdesk section you should see my handsome mug looking back at you.
Its not all joy though, its pretty hard work, especially as I have to do it at night and some of the questions make our users look like veritable IT gods!

Last summer I decided to eschew (look it up) british festivals in favour of going and trying the european equivilant.
My reasons for doing so were many - up until that point I'd been an avid Reading & Glastonbury goer, however raising prices, falling standards of bands and generally wanting to smack 90% of the people at these festiva
So, I've has an Asus Eeepc to play with for a couple of days now, and thought I'd share my experiences.
First thing that hits you is the size of this thing. Its dinky. REALLY dinky. I know every review has said that but until you get your hands on one to play with you don't really see it.

Its also sturdy, the thick plastic feels like it could take some stick, and having a solid state flash disk instead of a traditional harddrive - its not going to die
