Network IM solution

Hi all,

 

Does anyone have any idea what decent instand messenging software there is around? Both free and chargeable software is useful.

It must be only network based.

It is something that might be useful to give to teachers to contact each other easily but also a useful function would be being able to contact the students and have help sessions if needed.

Theres a few choices when it comes to free ones. Somebody else will know better than me. As for commercial ones there is ImJack from amteus plc.

Jabber (free). Do a search for it on these forums, there's a few threads about it.

I tried a search, lots and lots of threads came up, ill try jabber as IMJack is the one i was asked to research, thought id see what others used.

We've just started using Microsoft Office Communicator 2007

I would suggest Jabber - try openfire, as it is easy to set up and run. Do a google search for it.
