We have a lot of old p4 hp compaq machines which altho need updating are more than capable for their needs.
So I thought i'd try putting windows 7 on them and using windows classic mode etc - turn off all the fancy stuff, seems like intel have other plans though
Graphics — Older Intel® graphics controllers and Microsoft Windows 7* operating system
Machines just happen to have the 82915g/gv/910gl express chipset.
Any known workarounds for this or am I stuffed?

Annoying that intel say it can't be done....

27th February 2012, 03:08 PM #4 Yeah it's not really an issue with what you want - 915G doesn't like Aero anyway due to no WDDM. You're not entirely stuck with Windows 7 32 bit as some P4s on that chipset support EMT64, but you're probably better off on 32 bit. Using the classic shell should give no issues.
