Question S:\ disconnects after time or sleep on Vista\7 and stops SIMS.net loading

    Hi,

We have a problem with SIMS.net on Vista and Windows 7 Laptops where the error missing or incorrect s:\sims\connect.ini is sometimes shown.
In the XP era this always meant the network wasn't connected either by wire or wireless and was easy to fix.

It is equally easy to fix on vista\7 by going into my computer and seeing that s:\ has a cross through it, double clicking it reconnects the drive and makes sims work again. (missing network is still also a possibility). This happens a lot and there must be a way to prevent it.

Is there a group policy or reg change to prevent this network disconnecting procedure in the newer OS's?

    Thanks,

Try using a UNC path in c:\windows\sims.ini instead of s:

I have tried that before but then it thinks it needs to upgrade the client each time, even though it doesn't (something to do with s:\setups?)

We had this and I just changed the C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\connect.ini to redirect to \\sims\sims\sims (or "\\servername\sharename\SIMS folder" instead of redirecting to S:\SIMS. Problem went away.
