Hi all I have two teachers who use both Mac and PCs are having problems uploading filenames using the Skydrive Pro tool. They are using the Skydrive Pro sync tool (part of Office 13 Pro Plus) to upload documents on to a user Skydrive, the upload process adds the following two characters " ._ " to the front of the file name and as a result, fails to upload. We have identified that the ._ is added by the Mac OS filesystem and the files are accessed on both PC and Mac machines. Has anyone any suggests as a work around? I have tried the MS support forums but they have not suggested a solution that will work with the teachers workflow. This must have emerged in mixed OS schools before. Thanks in advance. John

I need the solution regarding the MAC Laptop printing. We manage printers with pcounter on MS Windows 2003 network. The staff members who have their own mac laptops can directly print bypassing Pcounter to any network printer ( Even if I pause it on the server they still can print). Any suggestion to stop this on the server or on the printers rather than on the staff mac laptops.

Admittedly I'm not great at UNIX but I managed a shell script to remove old user folders stored in a text file. Login as root using "sudo -s" and you password then run the following script by saving as a".sh" file and using chmod 755 to compile and ./ to run. #! /bin/sh while read file; do cd /Userdata/Data/; #SHAREPOINT echo "Deleting" $file "from Server"; rm -rf "$file"; #Will delete the user folder based on user ID in text file echo $file "Deleted from Macserver on "; date; echo "\n"; done < user.txt; # file holding usernames. This isn't the best script but it works fine for our college. If anyone has a better script I'd be more than happy to use i.

Hi, I have have currently upgraded our iMac suite to running the new 'Snow Leopard' and all is well apart from when users now log on and try and open there work/excel documents. It pop up with a "Cannot access read-only document 'File Name" pop up and then if you go ok to that it then shows you the message "Cannot access 'File Name". I have tried removing Microsoft off on of the computers and reinstalling it but no luck, i also tried removing the iMac from the network and rejoining it at that worked for about a day now it is popping up the messages again Has anyone else come across this problem? Its driving me MAD!!! Thanks a lot in advance

Hi, Am setting up 2 New Macbook Pro's. In case the user forgets their password I added a "administrator" account and added it to the admins group using the GUI tool. I want "administrator" to have access to their files so I can restore workfiles if they forget their password. What is the recommended way of doing this. Should I change the permissions of the users home folder to give "administrator" access. I went ahead and changed the permissions and used "Apply to enclosed items" is this going to mess up home folder permissions? I googled this Mac OS X v10.5 or 10.6: Renaming or saving after using "Apply to enclosed items" on a home folder but it only apples to Lion and Mountain Lion so am I in the clear with Mavericks? Hope I don't have to do this How to fix home folder permissions in OS X | MacIssues

Hey there, We are experiencing very inconsistent printing from our fleet of 10.9 Macbook Airs to our Windows 2008 R2 Print Server and HP Printers. Users can print one day, and then lose the ability the next day. One user I was just dealing with had roughly 10 jobs sitting in her printer queue, which kept pausing. Selecting resume would do nothing for any of the jobs, and she had already authenticated to the printer before (this is a common printer for her). I look on the server and there is no record, but can print successfully from my computer to this printer and watch the job file through. The user had full network connectivity and I could not find any error logs in console that seemed relevant. Installing newer drivers does not help, but remapping the printer will. One thing to mention is that the print server is sharing the printers with generic drivers. Could this be causing any issues? Sorry for the cluster of information above, it is proving difficult to narrow down exactly the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

So I've recently got a network up and running for our macs. They are using a Windows Server 2008. I have an issue with some of the student accounts - they keep getting a message saying "OSX Need to Repair Library to Launch Applications". I'm given 2 options, cancel or repair. I have to put in admin username and pass to be able to click repair. No matter which option I choose, the message comes back a few seconds later. I have found that it is only happening with certain users, not the mac itself. I've ran disk utility to check permissions, everything is fine. Any idea what is causing this?

Has anybody managed to find a way of using both AFP home folders and SMB folders? What I am trying to do is have both setup on a students/staff login so that they can access there windows based home directory and also access the Mac home directories for things like Aperture, iphoto garage band etc which require a lot of storage room. We Limit Student storage to 150mb so we need to be able to use our current promise storage to store the home folders. I have read a few forums with scripts on but i can't seem to get them to work. I have got a working magic (golden) Triangle I can login to the any Mac with the any AD login and it works I can see there windows based home folder. Any Help would be much appreciated. Our Current setup is: Mac OS X Server (xServe) 10.7.5 running OD as Master and bound to AD Mac Clients 10.7.5 Windows 2008R2 Domain Controller

I have a suite of imac's and plan to partition the hard drives to overcome an issue with importing videos within imovie. However for simplicity, I would like to create an icon on the desktop to link to the partition volume. Simply to allow the students to copy work from the partition to their own home drive. Is there a way of mounting the drive to multiple users on the same machine/
