If you have a second windows 10 pc or laptop you could install hyperv server 2016 on the host machine and mange it from the windows 10 machine too. Hyperv sever is free

I bought a cheap ex Datacenter server for €70 put an ssd and hdd into it installed server 2016 on it. ( but you’re probably get away with Linux and VMware) using hyper v. I downloaded pfsense and installed it on a vm as a virtual router with two vnic’s one internal for the virtual network LAN and one external for the WAN then created a virtual network with 2016 server GUI version as the dc, win 10 vm and two server core vms to complete the network I needed at the time. I downloaded the vms from the Microsoft trial site checkpointed them to get past the 60 days limit. It only cost me the price of the server. I hope that helps or makes sense.

Does anyone know how to create available appointment slots in the teams or outlook calendar? What I’m trying to to achieve it to show staff when I am available for support or meetings and allowing them to grab an empty slot of the need it.

So, can you use it to within a domain to authenticate with?

Can I ask what is the main differences between the two? I’m only just beginning to use and learn about Azure and I assumed they were both essentially the same except for one is cloud based. But you could authenticate off it. @HPlumb78 are you recommending Azure AD because you’d be preparing the site for the cloud?

There was no-one near me that Could terminate and I was pulling cat6 cable anyway so I just added two lengths of fiber too. You have to be careful pulling fiber. You can’t pull it it like copper because it breaks. If you buy FTTH equipment and connectors like I did it’s not that expensive. Maybe €50 for the equipment on amazon and €20 on eBay for the connectors. The problem I came across was mistakes I made because I didn’t know what I was doing. I ended up ordering the wrongs spfs for the cable, the wrong connectors and because my success rate was so low. I bought some ubiquiti simplex SPFs which helped where one core terminated correctly but the other didn’t. I ended up wasting connectors not realizing they were working.

I was given a load of free fiber from a local provider and decided to run it myself and learn how to terminate using a FTTH kit and connectors and YouTube. I’m 60% successful with the overall number of termination’s I completed but I reckon despite getting the free cable it probably would have been cheaper to just buy preterminated cable. I bought loads of €10, €20 or €40 eBay items that all added up in the end. That said I’m glad I did it.

My network is 98% windows (we have one Linux vm) but I’d like a bit more daily hands on practice with using Linux. I have an old laptop that I thought I could install Linux on and use it to manage the servers and get me more comfortable with general Linux. Most of the switches etc have web based gui’s so they should be fine. Is this possible or even advisable? What do you think? I’d like to do a bit of Linux training but without using it daily I’d probably just forget! Thanks.

Having don’t a bit of research, my edgeswitches don’t allow stacking or lcap. But it’s good to know what’s possible. Thanks for the advise.

If I understand your both essentially suggesting that I’d be link aggregating over two switches? (I know I’ve probably over simplified it a lot)

I usually connect my switches with at least 2 cables aggregated together for redundancy, they end up in a sort of daisy chain. But this weekend one of the switches bricked severing the connection between two buildings. I have two switches in each building and could in theory have one or more cables from each switch going to the opposite switch in the opposite building. Creating better redundancy. But will that create some sort of loop. Or does anyone have any recommendations for me?

I'm not! I have a meter for that job, but I haven't gotten there yet. The fiber isn't being used anywhere critical, it's just a little project for myself.

No I'm not using a fusion splicer, it's all manual. The fast connect ones are really easy to use, cheap and I can tell if the termination has is correct straight away. Whereas the epoxy ones you need to wait until the epoxy cures and then you need to polish the tip afterwards. That been said out of 8 terminations I've done already, 2 I've done incorrectly.

Hi Guys, I've been teaching myself how to terminate fiber cable because I got a load of single mode duplex cable for free. I've successfully terminated two different lengths but my third one has a problem and I'm not sure which connector is the faulty one. I'm using a mix of fast connect FTTH LC connectors and epoxy ones. Using a optical pen tester I can see on one end the A connector allows light all the way to the other end, but not the reverse and on the opposite end the b connector allows light all the way but not the reverse. Does this mean that the connectors not allowing light through are faulty? I have a limited amount of connectors and I dont want to waste them. Thanks.

For some reason, chrome has started getting blocked by my applocker policy on different machines. I have program files and program files x86 whitlisted, do I need to add something else for chrome?

I have two small sites between 10-16 cameras. One uses Ubiquiti and works great, easy to set up and the principle has easy web access to check any incidents. The other is a hikvision setup which works fine but the remote iVMS software is too technical for that principle to use. He also hate’s the software on the nvr. That would be my only reason for not recommending it.

I don’t suppose you could share that script? I was thinking of using bginfo on every computer. But thought that might be too much info for the students to see.
