Hi all, I have been asked to help out regarding timetabling at a school at very short notice. The school has taken the decision to combine the year 12 and 13 Art classes (among others) due to low numbers in both. If i do this by keeping it in the separate year 12 and year 13 curriculum years but just assign the same teacher and room then i end up with the teacher's allocation appearing to be higher than it is not to mention clash reports etc. However, if i do it by using a derived year group is there a way that I can add more than one course level as the students would be completing AS in year 12 and A2 in year 13? Any other thoughts would be appreciated - I did think of just creating a placeholder member of staff that doesn't exist but then there are issues for lining to do data entry etc. Many thanks

I think that would probably work. There would be a large number of facilities attached but you can set it so that they dont show up on the timetable so it would just be a behind the scenes list. Thanks very much!

Thank you but I would need to add it to all of the key stage 3 classes as there is no systematic way in which they are scheduled (all based on staffing and how it fits), so it could be x1,x2,x3 but it could be x1,x3,x5 or x1 and x4 or even just x1. If i add KS4 facilities to all of the KS3 classes it will then flag up as a facility issue whenever there is more than one KS3 class rather than if there is a clash between KS4 and KS3. Thanks

Hi all, Hoping someone can help me with a timetabling issue. In year 10 & 11 we have Food and Nutrition and Design and Technology. We have one classroom for food and 2 for tech but can only have one class of each subject at KS4 at a time. So i have added facilities (FDK4 & TEK4) for each with a limit of 1 on both so that no KS4 classes will clash. This is fine. In year 7, 8 & 9 we have Technology which rotates through the same three rooms above. So at KS3 we can have 3 classes at the same time. Again i have set these up as a facility (TECH) with a limit of 3. This is fine. What i need to do is ensure that if a KS4 class (of either food or DT) is on at any time then no KS3 Tech class is scheduled as well. At the moment nothing will be flagged if i have a KS4 class alongside 2 KS3 classes. I have always solved this manually by reviewing as i go but am wondering if i can put an automatic process in place as i am about to stop the timetabling in my school and a less experienced person is picking it up so i would like to try and leave more support embedded in the structure if i can. Interesting idea. Having thoughts about how it would affect the administrative side of things - musing out loud really. We would need to use class labels as sometimes it is x1 and x4 that link while sometimes it is x1 and x2 so the automatic labelling would not work. The linking also changes from year to year and also within year (my school do the flying start)- purely based upon when staff are free and increasing the flexibility of the timetable. The links are also not known until the timetable is completed but as long as it was before the first import the changes could be made where necessary to break the model apart into smaller bits. Would it also make reports and routines more burdensome as things will need to be done for more bands / blocks - they can probably be set up at teh beginning of teh eyar but they are likely to need to be redone at every timetable rather than using the standard ones. And probably a whole lot more as well! Appreciate the idea - I will go and have a little play around with it and see where i get to. Many thanks

You should be able to do this using the following; Reports Lesson Monitor Group Reports Group Analysis by Vulnerability It then lets you set the date that you want the report to run - just set it to the dates required Set the STAR field to pupil premium and then set who you want the information in the group type, hit search, select the groups that you want and hit print.

There is a change over - for example the boys in 8x1 English will need to be in 8x2 for PE, while the girls in 8x2 for English will need to be in 8x1 for PE. Since posting i think i have found a way using curriculum assignment by student to solve it as you can move a student for individual lessons - think it was meant for use with alternate curriculum or interventions but it can work to move a student for one lesson, for a specific subject but not others that are linked (e.g. what i am after) or the whole timetable if you wanted (not sure you ever would?!). Only thing is it looks as though it will be a time consuming process for the amount of changes (about 1/2 the students in the school's PE lessons) so if anyone does have a quicker way it would be appreciated. I want to find a way of having linked subjects in NOVA (i.e. on the same line, in the same block in the model) have different class registers. The reason is that PE is often linked to another subject to add flexibility to the timetable. However, this causes an issue with the registers as the PE classes then have the same students on the register but in reality they are different as they teach the boys and girls separately For example, PE is linked with English. There are 4 classes in the band and their timetable might be something like this [TABLE=width: 500] [TR] [TD]Class[/TD] [TD]Mon[/TD] [TD]Tue[/TD] [TD]Wed[/TD] [TD]Thu[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]8x1[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]PE[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]8x2[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]PE[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]8x3[/TD] [TD]PE[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [/TR] [TR] [TD]8x4[/TD] [TD]PE[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [TD]Eng[/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] All of the English classes are taught as mixed (boys and girls) but on the Monday when 8x3 and 8x4 go to PE, PE take the 60 students and want to divide them up into a class of boys and a class of girls but the registers for 8x3 and 8x4 appear the same as the English ones and if I were to change them to suit PE they would no longer be correct for English. Hi all, my school has recently become a through school. The problem is that the primary school operates a completely different cycle to the secondary part, specifically that there are a different number of periods and that the period lengths are different. Does anyone have a way of putting this into NOVA on a single timetable (the through school uses a single version of SIMs across the entire school). At present the primary timetable does not get added to SIMs but there is a strong desire for this to change. The only ways that I can see to even get started on this are to ignore the lesson timings aspect and just build in extra periods to accommodate the different number of periods (using period types where necessary) but this has consequences for SIMs and how it reports and reads different parts. Another would be to use a small time length as a period (i.e. 10min) and work from there but that will be a nightmare for allocations and reporting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
