I'm currently making an intranet for our Trust but also want to make this so other schools can use all the modules that I'm making. This is a full community project and is available on GitHub https://github.com/AzureusNation/Intranet. We are always looking for new contributors to help this project on its way. The whole project is based on modules that can easily be enabled or disabled depending on the setup you want to have. We also have a discord if you would like to join at the link below: https://discord.gg/ZKB626A The below is a list of modules I would like to see in the future. The list is in priority order. Modules Signing in portal/tablet Student Username & Password Viewer Room Bookings School Calendars Homework (Free SMH replacement) IT Maintenance Schedule IT Services Status FAQ I know this is an ambitious task but as HAP is getting limited support and is also on an old code base I think we as a community should put our efforts in to making a new more modern modular approach.

Never had this. I live on the same road as a load of kids and nothing like this has happened. It should never happen as both staff and students are separate objects in the database. I think someone in admin has made a boo boo.

Papercut - Trust wide single queue
azureusnation replied to azureusnation's topic in Enterprise Software
So all of our printers are going to be the same make as our contract is coming up and we want to simplify a lot of things. Does anyone know if biometrics would work on a raspberry pi? AButters can you let me know how it goes and if the card readers and that work on there as well? Looks like you can buy some "cheap" £60 7" touch screens for the Pi as well... looks like a great option. As well as there being the option for a Pi powered over PoE. -

What are the client logs saying when the image is failing? -
Afternoon. What a lovely bank holiday it has been. So... single queue trust wide... I bet you'll think im crazy and mad but this come in with my trust wide RDS solution. One print queue for everyone and then they use follow me printing. However management as they are always get in the way of great money saving exercises and want some standard colour printers to stay and will not budge on the idea of just have strategically places MFDs. Why do I bother! Any way, I know the cPad used to be a solution to make non embeded devices in to papercut devices, but, the big question is, what is the 2018 version of the cPad and can it convert standard printers with biometric scanners in to a followme print. The amount of time saving this would have on me and my team with only having one single print queue for our RDS cluster. It would be heaven. Please let me know if there is a solution to this!

OpenVpn issue with hosted SLG

Yep, my natting is on so you need that rule to be natted. Also attach some of the OpenVPN logs so I can take a peek. -

Hmm that is odd... no inbound rule for us. Is your rule natting? if its not I think it should. Let me check my firewalls. -

@SchoolsBroadband Hi Dave, Many thanks for your reply, what you have suggested sounds great! Thanks Ashley -

Yeah we have fortigate. We have ours going out on the same rule as our internet. Don't see why it would be getting blocked though. Have you opened 1194 as tcp or udp. It needs to be udp. -
Are you logged in Excel with your office 365 account? if not you need to be and that is more than likely the answer.

Netsweeper with Schools Broadband
azureusnation replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
@SchoolsBroadband Hi Dave, Spoke to one of your engineers today about or new thin client, data center project we are doing and needed some advice. I wanted to know if we used the data centers internet connection, can we use the Netsweeper filtering you currently provide us. After your colleague asked another three or four colleagues the answer I got was no 'it can't be done'. Now I know that if you have a port setup for filtering that doesn't require authentication, you can use this from anywhere; I can use our iPads port from home and it works as it should. Now I didn't believe it so me being me I went to the Netsweeper documentation and found the following links to what will allow us what we need to do for this project - Link 1 Link 2 Please could I have a senior engineer call me on Monday to get this ironed out as the functionality is there and I want our project to go as smoothly as possible. I'll PM you with my details. -
OpenVpn issue with hosted SLG
azureusnation replied to sluggster66's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We had this and I'm glad to say I told capita the fix so I'm surprised they haven't told you. Firstly make sure that port 1194 is open outbound. Next is to look at your VPN config. Here's mine: # Client Connections client dev tun dev-node HostedSIMS proto udp # Concentrator Farm Details remote-random remote simsgateway.cloudapp.net 1194 resolv-retry infinite nobind route-method exe # TLS-auth preshared.key 1 # Keys ca HostedSIMS\\ca.crt cert HostedSIMS\\9265406.crt key HostedSIMS\\9265406.key # Set log file verbosity. verb 3 # MTU Size mssfix 1200 # Enable compression on the VPN link. comp-lzo What you need too play with is the mssfix value. I find 1200 to be a good number, really stable. Restart your OpenVPN service after changing it and then it should work but if need be lower the mssfix value till it works. Thanks Ashley -
Mailmerged letter import to Students linked documents
azureusnation replied to azureusnation's topic in MIS Systems
Hi @Esteban, I'm aware ofthis feature but we want to upload all letters that are sent outto parents including school trips and other communication the school needs to send. I'm guessing there is no way of doing this? Thanks Ashley -
Hi, Is there a way you can run a report for a mail-merged letter and then have that letter be linked to each of the students instead of having to save each individual letter and import manually? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ashley

Thin Clients for RDS
azureusnation replied to azureusnation's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Interesting. I've been working with Broadberry on the hardware and they are saying to just have one VM per host. Each host has 64 cores/128 threads with AMD's EPYC. we are also putting infrastructure vms like print servers and other bits as well. One thing I do wonder though @Smokebomb is we are having the remote connector licenses so are the remote licenseds per vm or per host? this could be an issue with costings I have proposed if it is per vm... -
Thin Clients for RDS
azureusnation replied to azureusnation's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Thank you all. I wanted to try and stay away from windows at the client end as its just tedious, not as bad as macs though. I wanted just something simple that no one in the community seems to have made. A PXE bootable linux distro that will install on to the client, prompts fora host name and the RDS server/broker and away you go. I'm dabbling in ubuntu trying to get that to PXE boot the desktop version but this is a can of worms... why cant anything free be simple... Please keep the ideas coming though Thanks Ashley -
Reinstate SCVMM or not
azureusnation replied to mdrabble's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
I thought there was microsoft documentation saying not to do that, but i stand corrected. -
So... I have a major awesome project that I am going to be implementing in the near future. Lets just say this cluster will have 192 cores over 3 nodes I've been looking at ThinStation but I wasn't it installed on each machines hard drive and not have to rely on PXE/TFTP server. OpenThinClient is also out. What solutions have you guys come up with to turn old computers to thin clients... Bare in ind I have 450 computers I would need to convert so I need something that is extremely automated. By that I mean just really easy to run around all machines over summer and use a pendrive to install. Thanks Ashley

Reinstate SCVMM or not
azureusnation replied to mdrabble's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Just thought I'd add. You can't have SCVMM as a virtual machine on the cluster/host that you would be managing. So sure if you have a spare server whack hyper-v on there and make a virtual machine to manage your cluster. But make sure you don't set it to manage the hyper-v host it is on. -
Netsweeper with Schools Broadband
azureusnation replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
@SchoolsBroadband Can you explain why a lot of traffic goes through under the default filter and not under user groups? Some websites such as BBC needed to be unblocked on the default policy rather than the user policy. -
Netsweeper with Schools Broadband
azureusnation replied to TMBS's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I asked and got fobbed off with 'Sorry our NOC team doesn't want anyone to have permission to that yet.' @RobMason please can this be sorted? @sister_annex - What other access do you have from what they give you as standard? I've looked through the netsweeper documentation and there is loads of features that are built in but @SchoolsBroadband are just not letting us have access to. For anyone that is interested everything can be found on the 6.0 documentation here - https://helpdesk.netsweeper.com/docs/6.0/#t=Welcome_to_Netsweeper_Documentation.htm Took a while of scouting around for it but found it in the end. -

@RobMason When will we be able to create a edit Shared Lists on netsweeper. Just today ive asked your guys 6 times to add more urls to my lists. Not only does it lose me time but its also effecting your firstline guys having to make all these changes... why cant we have access... seems pointless that we cant. -
When you migrated did you recreate the local OST? If not I would start there. Outlook even though it says its offline has a tendency to just go off to get an update by the exchange/office 365 servers anyway so what your experiencing I would say is normal. Obviously this is also due to internet latency and what the 365 servers are doing at the time. I hate to say but it's never going to be as quick as a local exchange server. Also try and pinpoint in your firewall the connections from the client to office 365 to see how long they are taking. Don't know if you know this as well but there is a tool called OffCAT that Microsoft have made for debugging, take a look it can be helpful and also show you the latency times of your connections. LAst thing, make sure your av isn't scanning outlook files as stated here (Yes it says 2013 but still applies to 2016): https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn769141%28v=office.15%29.aspx Let me know how you get on. I've been reading about this today and its to do with Windows Dual Scanning. I'm going to be doing some testing but there are some new GP's out to help rectify the issues and from 1709 you will be able to completely control updates again like you were able to windows 8 and before.
