  1. A couple of years later and it was as i suspected: Not as good as it was touted.. Dont get me wrong, isams does have some good points such as available online, MFA. But their support is a bit hit and miss, and they charge you money for Absolutely everything, and no small amounts either, all excl VAT of course. Their phone support is a bit snooty, like if you owe them a living for calling them, and their migration team is somewhat patronising/condescending.. a lovely experience.
  2. hello DalekSec, Thank you so much for attempting to send this file to me, i have had a few problems getting back into my account and have only just been able to (have been trying to use the mobile app).. and thank you for attaching the file here, you're a very kind Dalek indeed
  3. Good Morning DalekSec.. any chance you're still willing to share that SCCM guide with mortals?
  4. Hi all.. Sorry does the msi allow us to change the default save location? The portable version has the default as the local Libraries on the c drive but we have networked home areas.. Tx in advance
  5. Which one has virtual labs as part of the package? If one offers the chance to practice video material then that should be on your shortlist
  6. We use Eset, its not free but we've never had any issues with it.. And use it for windows and android
  7. Very true.. If we give one teacher a wireless mouse and keyboard combo, then the rest of their department screams favoritism.. It just doesn't end.. It's like they want to evaporate any good will you have for them and their vocation..!
  8. @Cthulhu I tend to help more easily if is this kind of request too, however I did have a teacher come back telling me that since they started work here - which is when I helped with wifi- they now keep getting an error message and it mentions their old school, so how did I know her previous school and I should remove the error.. She did flush when I told her that it was probably because her previous employer had removed her cloud access.. Which is why "other school" onedrive kept giving her authentication errors..
  9. @Simcfc73 I think your stance is admirable but I view my "accepting wine or chocolates as thanks" as a form of payment which would tie me into some sort of "you-touched-it and-it-now-doesn't-work type-contract" It happened to me in the past so I never accept.. If I want a mars bar or vino I can always pop to sainsburys..
  10. Wow.. DaveP, I hope they were embarrassed when you were able to prove it wasn't your fault.. But better, I hope they never again dared to ask for free help with private equipment after that..
  11. Tx fir the responses peeps.. In the end, my school rejected isams cocurricular offering and went purely with socs.. Schoolbase used to handle this, no 3rd party required, has online signup and being part of the mis there is no need for api with Schoolbase.. So that's at least a further >£1k per year for functionality that Schoolbase already had as part of our contract level. Something to think about if choosing isams.. At least until their cocurricular module offering does reliable online sign ups.
  12. Hi all, I'm hoping that someone can help unpick this. I work in a team of 3 it staff, with 2 contractors. The school I work for has a BYOD policy but it doesn't mention receiving IT technical support. We get staff occasionally bringing their laptops in the hope that we will fix their kit.. Sometimes they are generous (!) and give us until the end of the day to fix their personal equipment (!) Most time we try to be helpful but the work load is such that we constantly have to say no, instead making helpful suggestions. One of these teachers seems to take "No" rather badly and, apart from the state of people's mice and keyboards (yuck), I'm also weary of potentially having unrestricted access to their personal data. I have tried explaining this and highlighted that kit owned by the school takes priority, but it doesn't sink in, and neither is the suggestion that no one will work on this after hours - much less for free-. My questions are these - I hope you guys and gals can help-: How does your department handle these type of scenarios? Is your school running a cloud /mobile network? Does your BYOD policy mention anything about repairs to their equipment? How can I gently but unequivocally let them see they will not be prioritised? Most teachers drive to work: does that mean that the school should have an onsite mechanic or pay for their mechanic? I would welcome some advice on this.. I'mstarting to get the feeling that I will meet a brick wall where management are concerned.. Tx
  13. i believe because a new member of staff used it in their previous school. this colleague has clout, hence the switch.
  14. Hello Everyone! Does anyone here use iSAMS and SOCs? If you do, please can you tell me? if we only wanted to use SOCS for managing our co-curricular activities, can we still import our data from our old MIS into SOCs? Our school is aware that doing this means having to add new students into two places, first in isams then into SOCS, but this seems the likely option for us as the co-curricular module in isams costs money, however without online signups theres no point in our view paying for this. Also, as i understand it, socs only pulls information from isams but is not currently able to put any updates back into it, in effect only 1-way communication/data transfer which is "a bit old school". Many thanks for any input you can provide.
  15. Schoolbase. We have been using it since 2010 and: They help you transfer your data They help you to setup the system exactly as per the needs of the school. A number of functions form part of the package, there are, i believe, different levels of contract. there is an offline version and also an online version which is regularly updated. It connects with your AD logins, so users only need to remember one password if needed. It has online signup of students, should they wish to join the school It has also got online signup for Co-Curricular activities and clubs. The support guys are fantastic and always willing to help, whithin reasonable requests. It works with FeeMaster and Sage 200. the work with independent schools (which we are one) but also they work with academies, so they seem to have a handle on how each "institution type" works. you need: for windows clients, all your clients need to be on the same version in terms of Windows and Office, or at least the same version of office. It works well in chrome or firefox which is our preference (we dont use IE here) It also works well in Safari, in case you wish to install the online version and run it on a mac. The offline version only runs on macs if you have Parallels. I recommend your IT or Data Manager has a virgin machine that is only used for Schoolbase updates, if you plan to use the offline version in your school. Im actually sad because we are leaving them. I got here to ask a question about our soon to be new MIS, and saw this so i thought i would give my two-cents, In terms of our soon to be MIS, so far I have only been impressed with their trainers, not so much with their offerings.. Not my decision to leave schoolbase, neadless to say.
  16. Hi, thank you for your reply! The proxy settings are configured through GPO, but the computers are different vintage, different ip networks (as in 192.1.x.x) and they are hanging off different switches. The one other thing could be teh gigabit/XP problem you mention, but this only started happening last week! we've had this system in place for about 2yrs on XP!
  17. Hi, We are having a very similar problem at our school.. except, no sites, external or internal are accessible to only some 50computers dotted throughout the buildings. The only work around seems to be logging off and on again, but there are some where they just dont work full stop.. could this be GPO also? thanks for any advice.
