  1. Do you know the IP address of the printer? Does it forward to a queue? i.e "FollowMePrint" - > User releases job at "Lower KS1 Black/White" Thanks Aaron.
  2. Resolved the issue, the dns server removed itself from the Advanced settings. Thanks Aaron.
  3. Hi, Today I went to go and test our mac server dns because page loading was extremely slow. When I went to Network Utility > Lookup then typed in a domain but it came back with a lovely error. Lookup has started... speedtest.net -> The operation couldn't be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 2.) Any help would be amazing. Thank you
  4. This is for papercut, this is based on self-research and troubleshooting. Have you turned off aliases? Leave IPV4 on if you're worried and turn off aliases. 1. IPv4 aliasing can be disabled by first navigating to the following location on the Mac server which hosts your iOS-enabled print queues, where "[app-path]" is the PaperCut installation directory, and opening the "pc-iosprint.conf" file found there using a text editor: [app-path]/providers/iosprint/mac/pc-iosprint.conf Once you have the file open, locate the line which reads as follows: #noalias=on Remove the "#" character, such that the line now reads: noalias=on 1. 5. Ok, can you also turn off ipv4.
  6. Hi Mike, Please open Terminal and enter the following command, and for ipv4 just change v6 to v4 Restart your server and let me know. Thanks Aaron.
  7. In the end, I used Mobility but turned off preference sync.
  8. Hi, Have a brand new out of the box server, which the operating system was upgraded to Sierra, then server app was installed without any problems but now when I try to enroll a macbook it times out, any ideas why this is? Trust Profile is installed. Profile Manager is perfectly set up. Thanks Aaron.
  9. Hi, Looking for some software to allow remote access to homefolders, similar to OSX Profile Manager Mobility but better. Sync to AD when user enters schools or sync over their wifi connection. Thanks Aaron.
  10. You can control a macbook with GPOs etc but you do need tools on your DC such as ADmitMac | Thursby Software or centrify, but it's probably best practice to get a mac mini server and use profile manager, you can still bind to AD for user login and map network drives.
  11. Hi Emma, Does the school have a MacServer? If not use chrome with a simple filter addon, this is my personal best: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/webfilter-pro-the-best-fi/ejgfoklefkbjadjcgjmnhfbdfjolojnn?hl=en You can use profile manager if you have a mac server Let me know if you do and I will talk you through the set up. Thanks Aaron.
  12. Use GPO to install the software and add it to startup using gpo?
  13. It's working because the follow me print queue is shared by bonjour when the user prints it holds the job in cups/papercut until user release and papercut knows who is printing because domain credentials
  14. Haha! You think if it was that easy, I would do that. I'm in keychain and cups isn't nowhere to be found.
  15. Hi Dan What problems are you experiencing? What you'll need do is have the PCClient and the clients need to be able to see the printer, if you're using Profile Manager allow the student to see the printer. Thanks Aaron.
  16. Hi Guys, I need some extra support, I have been going crazy over the last few days wondering why it isn't working. I upgrade our MacMini Server from Yosemite to El Capitan which caused printing management papercut to fall over no longer work, I tired rerunning the Control Print Monitoring etc didnt fix it. The error message I get when I try to print from Bonjour Shared printer from a client machine is: Printer is not responding. I then checked the logs and found Aug 17 17:28:30 bruce2 com.apple.SecurityServer[122]: displaying keychain prompt for /usr/sbin/cupsd(7418) Aug 17 17:28:30 bruce2 com.apple.SecurityServer[122]: Problem opening rules file "/etc/authorization": No such file or directory Aug 17 17:28:30 bruce2 com.apple.SecurityServer[122]: Authorization via securityd no longer supported I have tired everything I can think of, ethernet, windows queue, null printer. It's driving me crazy! Anyhelp would be ace! Thanks Aaron.
  17. In my opinion from previous experience. Trolley: For the trolley we use iPad syncing, charging and storage Trolley. Perfect for schools but you need to make sure if you get the cheaper version which is the charge only rather than the sync and take this in consideration with the sync and charge that it has rubber grommets protecting the charging cables because children tent to pull the iPad rather than unplug it. App Management I would use Cellabus or Lightspeed if you want MDM management but if you want general control without using Wi-Fi power (Please note if you have a MDM server you will need a MAC Server to cache the apps). If you want general mangement and profiles, I would use Apple Configurator 2 with blue prints. You can now add bundle IDs to delete stock apps. This only 9.3.3 and AC 2.2 Mirroring screen We use at our school Reflecter which works perfectly but you need to make sure you have great Wi-Fi, there is other versions like AirServer (untested) but Reflector works well Printing We did use Printopia for the past year which prints directly to a printer, it tricks your iPads in to think you have a AirPrinter in the building, you'll need to install it on your server Mac/Windows works on both, but we have moved to PaperCut Management for control of printing through users and limit the printer costs, which works perfectly as long as your students use network accounts, but you can setup class based accounts if you want to get complex. File Management We use Stratospherix - FileBrowser works perfectly with AD and OD but you need once again the users to log into the network accounts, if you want another opinion sign the school up for Apple School Manager and use their cloud service which installs a home screen on the iPad iCloud Drive which copies, pages, numbers, keynotes and photo's and videos from the iPad. Hope that helps you get setup Thanks Aaron.
  18. Preform a verbose boot [Command + V] and it will run a hfs check. If that fails. run recovery from the web [Command - Option - R] and it will boot into Recovery where you can preform error checks or reinstall iOS then rebind the mac to AD and allow user to log in.
  19. Hi speckytecky, what are they sending e.g. which type of document? SWGfL will not be blocking your emails unless you use their EasyMail.
  20. Are you using pages document format? If you're using O365 and pages file format, O365 doesn't like it and will create a mail attachment file where you just need to open the file rather than download it. Let me know what the staff are using to access emails and what they're sending from iPads and receiving from other schools etc.
  21. What kind of slowdown are you experiencing?
  22. It sort of makes sense. The students log onto another Mac they have never been on before and it doesn't transfer the settings from their profile. The terminal command is done on the server through WGM and should push out to all macs on the network if they are in a Computer Group and binded to OD.
  23. Sorry what is duplicating? the students home folder on the server? or the alias?
  24. Run the following in Terminal on your server using the attached Plist from the zip and changing the group to apply it to in WGM. dscl -u DIRADMIN -p /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 mcximport /ComputerGroups/YOURMACGROUP com.apple.sidebarlists.plist com.apple.sidebarlists.zip
  25. Cisco Networking Network Management Troubleshooting AD and DNS / DHCP (if you wanna teach server side of things) Imaging You don't need any internet connect for any of these, just make sure the computers are linked via LAN
