Happy Friday Edugeekland, I'm looking for something suitable to send out to pupils to advertise our Digital Leaders scheme. I knocked up a poster in publisher but it looked a bit flat, I need something that will appeal to the yoofs (11-16). Can anyone link me/send me some school-friendly-but-yet-still-hilarious graphics? I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. Cheers!

Morning all, I've been passed from pillar to post by various channels of Microsoft support about this and can't seem to find an answer. When we try to insert a quiz into Powerpoint 2016 using Office mix, we get an error that says "'Web add-ins can't run because all online content in Office is blocked. Go to the Trust Center to change your privacy settings." However, I can't see where in the trust centre to achieve this. This happens to all of our Office Mix users (W7 and W10, Office 2013 and 2016). Does anyone have any ideas? Many Thanks as always!

About three years' too late (and still counting for an official UK release) on hardware that's twice as competitive as its rivals. I'd love to have a true multi-platform environment to compliment our existing Windows/Learnpad/Android provision but unless the Classroom App turns out to be a must-have I can't see us investing.

Morning All, We have a few class sets of various devices which are booked out using the always-recommendable roombookingsystem. The problem we have got is actually getting them to classes. The charging stations aren't portable so they need to be collected at the start of lesson. Sometimes they are used for consecutive lessons, and so won't always be collected from the charging stations. Staff are usually teaching back-to-back lessons (the timetable here is quite tight) and so don't always have time to collect in between lessons. One set is located in our office at present which isn't always ideal, as a team of two there are times when the room is locked when they need to be collected. Has anyone got any solutions or suggestions to a more workable solution than this? Input appreciated as always!

Is this the 'HwbMail' - the WAG's Office 365? We looked at this a while ago but as they wouldn't delegate us permission to administer our own users (!) we decided to stick with our own 365 tenancy. How are they forcing you to use it? I know we have Hwb accounts, we just don't use them.

Apologies for the thread necromancy... Did you find a solution for this? I'm helping someone out with a near identical problem. I'm looking at Access, which will do the job, but wondering if there's an easier solution before I commit to it! Cheers

Ola! I've just built one using Serif WebPlus, took me probably a day using one of the 'out of the box' templates. It's nothing fancy, just a few graphical links and some embedded documents, but it really doesn't need to be for most staff/pupils (KISS!). Hosted on an apache VM.

Hi there, I've come across that first article before. Now this is probably because I've not really used MDT before as I've always used WDS, but it seems like there's part of that tutorial that maybe doesn't go into as much detail as it could (see attached). How do I get the Windows Deployment Wizard to run on a client workstation - is it part of SCCM? Can it be scripted in any way? In reply to the OP, the answer I've got from Microsoft was 'not without a third party MDM tool' - though this link and other search results seem to imply that there are ways of achieving what you describe. Hello Would I be able to see this script too? I want to set a custom role assignment policy for a specific group of users (ie students) - can I do this from csv? Or where domain = @student.school.uk ? Been playing around with it with some test users but can't seem to get it to stick. Any help appreciated as always!

That's a shame. I tried it on the train back and it worked for all of five seconds before running out of charge, so you may have a point! A load of pencils in a box that looks like a Willy Wonka chocolate bar... novelty factor=high

(Ranked in order of a quantity x quality equation I just made up) 1. Edugeek (Socks, lanyard, pinbadge). Oh, and the gift of putting faces to usernames! 2. Switchshop (Cable tester, phone charger, screwdriver/torch, jelly beans) 3. ICT-Direct (Travel mug and stress ball) 4. Avantis/learnpad (willy wonka style pencils) Thoroughly enjoyable day. Took a bit more time this year so actually got to see most of the hall and a few more seminars than usual. Wonder if they'll let me go back up tomorrow!?

Found this blog dated monday which sheds a bit more light on using MDT 2013 Update 1 to deploy apps per device using DISM. Will be giving it a crack over the next week or so (either side of BETT, obvs).

Good shout with the s2016 GPMC. Will give it a try at some point. I've got applocker working now to restrict the store - was just seeing what other schools have done with it.

What has everyone else done with the windows store app? Blocked using Applocker? Or is there a way to restrict to Organisational ID sign-in? Or 'other'? T'anks!

OK no worries, I'll play about with it. Windows 10 seems to need about five times more configuration that Windows 7 did - I understand they've rewritten a lot of the base code but the basics like Start Menu and App deployment seems to be a rabbit hole (without SCCM or a MDM capable of handling App provisioning at least - I still might end up going down the SCCM route to crack this!).

@Garacesh Is this script meant to remove the apps for all users? It only seems to have done it per-user. Are you running it at logon?

Good Morning Techies of the free world, Windows 10 apps - how do you 'install' them for all users? We're not using SCCM or any MDM tool at present. I've had a crack at downloading the Offline installer (an .appxbundle, then extracting it using 7zip) from the Windows Store for Business, then using powershell and dism to install. I get an error stating the .main file is not present. Generally there seems to be very little official documentation on the Windows Store for Business. Any tips appreciated as always.

Many Thankyous! That seems to work much better than the one I was using previously. Looks like the 'displayname' method is hit and miss, the wording of the apps in my script is pretty similar. I've read other threads around the start menu, looks like we're putting all our eggs in the software restriction policy/UAC basket. Which will do for now, I suppose. Appreciate the help!

I've been trying to use this script for a little while now with varying levels of success: It doesn't remove Contact Support, Get Started or Windows Feedback, saying 'this app is part of windows and cannot be uninstalled on a per-user basis'. It also fails to remove the 'Sports' app but I can't see it when I run Get-Appxpackage or Get-AppxProvisionedPackage in isolation. Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of these? Also - how to hide the 'Windows accessories/administrative tools/powershell/system' folders from the start menu, ideally without redirecting the startmenu? Many thanks as always!

Next summer I am actually booking a holiday! Probably not to the Lake District though - thanks for the offer. It is a big task, but it's definitely worth doing. A lot of it can be set up in advance (KMS, Print servers, images, DCs) so that the minute the staff and kids walk out the door on the last friday of term you can start unplugging things.

Do it! I took over a secondary about a year ago and rebuilt our two domains (which were on a flat network anyway) into one. Haven't looked back. The first two weeks back after the summer are manic anyway, so it didn't make that much of a difference, and it's made a big difference to our workload. Firstly, document everything. I used a OneNote notebook but it's up to you. As others have said, get yourself a test bed with the new domain up as soon as possible to give yourself plenty of time to get it configured and practice moving users+shares across. Get the GPOs sorted early on as this eats a bit of time and can be done with only a few test VMs and dummy users. Create a trust with your current domain to make migrating easier. TAKE ALL THE BACKUPS! We had two physical servers and around 200 workstations which all got rebuilt to the new domain, and it took me most of the summer with four days help from my techie. Spent the first two weeks migrating user data and servers over to the new domain, and the rest of the time imaging. Having done it once now on this scale (my previous rebuild had all been primaries) I could probably do it all again in three weeks. There's probably no need to rebuild everything but it needed doing here as some of the workstation images were ancient and it's nice when everything's uniform. Staff laptops were the biggest pain because we have a mix of hardware and most staff wanted to use them over the summer, but this would vary from site to site.​ We had some help from our LA moving SIMS to the new domain but there's plenty of documentation online, and to be honest it didn't look that complicated. I think you pretty much have to use a different domain name - wouldn't like to risk using the same one. Think about workstation, user and server naming conventions before you jump. I got a big whiteboard installed in the office to make sure everyone knew what was happening. Make yourself a list of all the hardware that references your current domain for DNS/IP settings and any currently assigned static IPs We were office 365 anyway so no exchange to migrate (yey). Keep SLT, your Data manager and especially your ICT-Co-ord in the loop with timescales etc, and make sure you have a full list of software that teaching staff need for lessons before you flatten everything. Test as much as you can before the summer and make it clear to staff who want to work on site over the first few weeks that there won't be any ICT provision for them! Good luck!
