Hiya... wood, heat from 40 laptops and the shock HSE thing.. I agree with the posts about how you need to be really careful with power supply etc. Not a good idea I think. Copying the photos placed by Sysman could infringe intellectual property theft. Just think the hassle and Health and Safety involved is not worth it. Ta

Hi, if you read the document thoroughly, it states that you only need the 'comando' type adaptors if you don't have a CE marked trolley. We have a LapSafe® so luckily no worries, just checked their website and they have a thing on the HSE alert on there. Safety

Hi Batman, glad they fixed the problem with their laptops... just wanted to say: A Lithium Ion battery is a lot like a complicated and finicky chemical pump that exploits what happens when certain materials (mostly metals) are placed together in an electrolyte solution. The way a lithium ion battery works is by moving lithium ions and electrons from one electrode of the battery to the other. The electrons move trough your your laptop circuitry to power it, while the lithium ions move trough some fluid(gel) to balance the electrons movement. If the lithium ions can't move through the fluid then the electrons can't move through your laptop either. The problem is that the fluid that allows the lithium ions to move from electrode to electrode degrade and dry over time. As it becomes more and more difficult for the lithium ions to move it also becomes more and more difficult for the battery to power your laptop. The fluid containing the lithium ions will naturally degrade over time at room temperature, but there are several factors that will accelerate the degradation. The first one is heat: the hotter the laptop battery the faster the fluid gets dry. The second factor is charge cycles. When you recharge your laptop battery this generates significant heat in the battery and helps degrade the fluid. Leaving the battery constantly charged also has a negative effect on the life of the fluid. If you have a laptop trolley using laptops plugged into 13 amp pin sockets inside the trolley, both the AC Adaptors and laptops generate a lot of heat. When you have a trolley that charges laptops vertically like we had, the AC Adaptors stored in the bottom of the trolley disperses heat, which as you know rises towards the vertical laptops charging at the top, generating more heat. We found our laptop batteries lasting only a few months. Eversince we have switched to a trolley that charges laptops horizontally, we have had better and longer battery life. We have also gone for a preconfigured lead option to get rid of using AC adaptors which generated more heat.

Hi, just wanted to say, don't know if your laptops are charged horizontally or vertically inside the cabinet. It could be the gel inside your lithium ion batteries. Charging in a confined space the laptops generate heat and when charged on their sides, vertically the gel warms and can 'move' inside the battery. What kind of laptop trolley do you have?

Hi D, also my first post... we bought a LapSafe way back in 2001. After about 6 years we phoned them up because we wanted to try out their new charging. They offered to buy back the old trolley. Customer service was really good. They explained two types of charging. One uses laptop's own AC packs, other quicker way is pre-configured leads. We went for pre-configured leads as I teach primary so makes it a lot faster and easier with kids. Also we tend to change laptops every 3 years because of battery life. They said we could just update leads if it was necessary. Previous lapsafe had the power packs and I kept losing them to kids and other teachers misplacing them.. I also heard that the laptops charge quicker in lapsafe trolleys than other ones. We got a 20 laptop storage trolley, okay to push. Hope this helps...
