  1. Hi, I think im correct in thinking this but as we are a fully Chrome school my windows knowledge is not what It was a few years ago! :-( When the DfE Intune licence expires will the devices still be usable? im assuming the auto updates will no longer work so the device may not update itself? ie windows / defender? Im assuming the restrictions on admin rights will just stay in place? We don't have many of the Windows devices out but enough to require an understanding of. With the Cisco filtering im guessing it isn't running through a proxy or something that no longer exits that prevents access to the internet? Im assuming it will just be fully unlocked? Thanks for any advice people :-)
  2. thank you, I think I am getting there, i've removed our external IP from the bindings and added the PSF's internal IP to the bindings. I've brought a certificate from godaddy and have gone onto the IIS server and then to create certificate request, it is asking me for a common name? Is this the internal server's localhost address as that is what the certificate needs to be securing? Assistance with the smoothwall bit would be helpful!
  3. Right ok, so in step by step form :-s On the IIS manager > bindings I add my public ip? - check Im assuming I can buy an SSL certificate online? what do I need to do with it then? we use smoothwall here so I have control over the firewall / router side of things - but what do I actually need to do? Sorry for being so basic but I really am not up to speed on doing bits like this.
  4. Hello, Hoping you can help as this is not my forte. We had PS financials installed over the summer and I am getting pressured to make the web portal accessible from our other sites. PS haven't been particularly helpful with setting it up as I am not sure on what I need to do and they just assume I do. I've looked online but it still confuses me, I have an external IP and i've gone into the IIS manager and gone to the default website > bindings and added our external IP to there but obviously that points towards our router. Do i need to get myself a seperate spare IP to use with PS? I am very limited on my knowledge with things like this so please accept my apologies for lack of knowledge. Thank you in advance,
  5. Right problem solved, after much head scratching it seems that it was our newly installed BitDefender AV that was causing the issue. Within the policies there is a 'monitor WiFi connections' unticked this and hey presto the laptops breathed into life! Can't believe it was something as simple as that, I know need to now go and return my GPO's back to normal and undo any changes I have made across the network! Big thanks to ADMaster for being there to help a damsel in distress!
  6. So i've just tried a standalone USB wireless adapter and tried a GPupdate and the same thing happens! It says processing fails as Windows could not resolve the user name..... Windows could not resolve the user name.... Which would point to DNS wouldn't it?
  7. Thanks for the reply ADMaster, I initially thought it might be a firewall issue and detetcing wifi as a different network location so i disabled both domain and private firewalls, the only one i didn't disable is Public so i will try that now. I have just tried changing the encryption to AES and it has made no difference :-( WiFi is on the same subnet just uses the DC's DHCP server. can ping the server both by name and ip returns fine with no issues....
  8. Hi Everyone, Hoping someone can shed some light on an issue i've had after rebuilding my machines this summer. I am having an issue where no GPO's are applying when the laptops are on WiFi, if you ethernet them up and login it works fine, i.e drive maps and you can push a gpupdate on cmd and it updates fine. If you boot on WiFi and login, the user profile builds but no GPO's are applied, i.e no mapped drives, no printers, and none of my restrictions. When running a gpupdate it fails untill you plug an ethernet cable in and then run hey preso gpupdate processes fine... I've been on it all day and at one point i was playing around with DNS, altering registry items, changing all the GPO's for network wait time and slow link detection but i think im barking up the wrong tree as all my desktops using the same image work fine and obviously when you hardwire the laptops they work fine. I used WDS to deploy an image created on a virtual machine and then added all the specific drivers to WDS but im wondering if driver issues would cause problems? Im going to try a USB wifi dongle tomorrow to potentially eliminate this potential but any advice would be massively appreciated as after a whole day i feel like im running out of talent and its such an irritating I've also done some research on encryption and it seems simply changing to the older tkip from AES can solve these issues but i'm yet to try this? The laptops are all Dell's but are a mixture of 4yr old ones and some 6 month, all running Windows 7 64bit so various WiFi hardware. Thanks people, any help would be massively appreciated.
  9. Hi all, I have various different Dell machines that I need to re-image as they are getting a bit tired. Some desktops (a mixture of 3010 and 3020s) and a mixture of laptops from early Latitude 5530s/5540s to newer 3840s which are brand new, I'll be using Windows 7 but for some of the newer machines I will probably just stick to Windows 10 for ease of deployment (pxe driver issues etc) I'm just wondering whether it will be best to build a basic Windows 7 image with the stuff I need i.e Office 2016 some other school related apps and then add all the specific drivers to WDS or whether i should build one of each type of machine up with all the drivers properly installed and then sysprep those images and use them depending on which laptop I need to image. I have around 100 laptops / desktops to do. any pointers would be great! Cheers!
  10. Thank you, so should i be logging into GoDaddy and changing my DNS from ns1/2.livedns to their default ones? Sorry for 101 questions...
  11. thanks for the information and replies its much appreciated. The change went through yesterday and so far nothing has changed with regards to emails which i find odd. On the O365 domain admin panel it is saying green light everything ok. On GoDaddy it is still stating my DNS records as NS1/2 which comes back as FastHosts (i guess that was the company my previous registrar was using) On my WIX control panel it has what looks like all the O365 required MX records plumbed into the DNS section apart from the section under A (HOST) that states mail.mywebsite.co.uk points to 213.171.216.114
  12. Hi all, I wouldn't normally post asking for help but am just getting myself in a muddle and need someone with a clear head to answer. I have just moved my domain from our existing registrar to a new one (GoDaddy) We have a website designed through WIX but its connection is via pointing. Lastly and most importantly. We have free Office 365 student/staff and i would really, really like it to continue working. What settings do i need to change in order for this all to work? GoDaddy have advised i need to change my nameservers from ns1/2.livedns to their default ones. But they said if we have a website with someone else (i.e WIX) that i need to make the changes with them. But if my connection is via pointing does this not mean they are not hosting? Office 365 technical team advised that if i make a change to my registrar it will wipe all my emails and disconnect my current emails from working? how?! My current provider are unsure on what needs to happen. I thought i had a grip on the whole website/dns/registrar/o365 thing but i am clearly lost. Any help would be massively appreciated.
  13. Hi, thanks for all the replies and information. We are on the free student and faculty subscription so by the looks of it they just 'manage' it for us. I just add users manually via the office 365 admin console, no link to AD. I queried it with Microsoft (that was a mission in itself) and they advised 1. Get new tenanat in Office 365 2. Change all users email address to onmicrosot domain on existing tenant. 3. Take backup of mailboxes from existing tenant to newly created tenant. 4. Remove domain from existing tenant. 5. Register domain on new tenant. 6. Cancel your old tenant. which made absolutely no sense to me... I think when the time comes i will just transfer our domain name to a new provider (is there anyone people recommend for ease of use with 365?) Delete the partnership account from the old supplier and just carry on as normal? I can't see, as we discussed how they could do delete or stop anything as its just a free subscription. thanks!
  14. Hi all, Firstly forgive me for my lack of knowledge on this subject... When we moved to our broadband/filtering provider 3 years ago part of the package was Office 365. We are now looking to potentially move away from the provider and I am concerned about how our Office 365 would be affected. I have been told by our provider we would need to save our mailboxes as they would all be deleted, but i find this hard to believe as i was under the impression Microsoft held all the data? I believe our provider does all the liaising/ paying to MS on our behalf and when you go into our Office 365 admin settings > partner relationships their name is present. They also come up as the registrar for us but we host our website through WIX so as far as the domain hosting goes I'm assuming that should be ok? The registrar shouldn't make any difference should it? I am just weary that we have a lovely working Office 365 with lots of happy inboxes and i do not want to loose it! Thanks
