  1. Cheers that's perfect.
  2. I have been asked to find the primary schools of some of our recent y11 leavers. Problem is we only started using SIMs two years ago so that information is not in the school history section. Rather than get the office to trawl through all the student's records (or revive CMIS) I hope to get the info from our Fisher Family Trust data. The problem here is it just gives the school id number. Deos anyone know where I can get a list or lookup these numbers on the web. Cheers
  3. Thanks Ian I won't hold my breath waiting for the change!!!
  4. We want to use the Linked Documents in Student Details to record telephone conversation details. When we go to add a new general document the input form displays a drop down list for Type. I want to add Telephone Conversation to this list. I assume it is fed from a lookup somewhere but none of the lookup names are obvious contenders. Does anyone know which one I need to edit. Cheers
  5. We have been using SIMs since 2007 and during the first year teachers were encouraged to use the behaviour management module. This was dropped in 2008/09 when we purchased the Sleuth system. We are now going back to SIMs as we are currently setting up out VLE and on line reporting. The problem is that we have about 1700 old behaviour records in SIMs. As I don't want to delete these one by one or ask teachers to edit their sometimes exotic and individual comments I was wondering if there is any safe way of bulk deleting these records. Cheers
  6. Tried that already but it doesn't record error checking for some reason. Thanks anyway
  7. SIMs exports numeric data to Excel as text (very helpful). Normally, for my own use, I just convert it to numeric using Excels error checking feature. However, I need to write a report for another member of staff and so want to automate this convertion process using a macro. Does anyone know what VBA code I could use to do this. Cheers
  8. In Office 2007 there is now a COUNTIFS function which, if I rememeber correctly, lets you supply more than one criteria. I haven't used it very much so can't give precise instruction but have a look and see if it helps. Graeme
  9. Another possible solution would be to run a RTF report and make sure that the Show Numeric dates is checked. You can then copy the output of this report to Excel and format the dates as required. Still not perfect but better than the above.
  10. On Friday (9th Jan) our timetabler tried to import a new version of the timetable and got an error message saying that the submission could not go ahead as it would result in the deletion of lesson marks. We tried a few ways to find these errant marks with no success. When we restricted the date range of the new time table we found that we could import from the following Monday until the 19th of April. We could also import OK from 21st April to end of term. So it would seem that the problem lies on the 20th. I have searched high and low for lessons marks on this day with no luck (there are 5 B marks for AM/PM sessions). The only other thing that I have done recently is rotate some staff but I can't see how this can be the culprit. Any ideas - please?
  11. I haven't got SIMs in front of me at the moment but I seem to remember that dates are exported in some kind of text format to Excel (they are left aligned in cells rather than the normal right aligned). To convert these text dates to serial numbers use the =DATEVALUE(cell ref of date) function in a new column. This can then be formatted to display date how you want it. I think this was how I got round it.
  12. My Head Teacher wants the date on an exclusion letter to have dates formatted as - Thursday, 18th December 2008 - as opposed to - 17 Dec 08 - as it appears at the moment. I have tried adding a switch to the merge field and have had some effect but as yet have not got it exactly as I want it. Any suggestions Cheers and Merry Christmas
  13. We have a spreadsheet with results from a termly review of our Key Stage 4 students. I have been asked if I can find the total of the eight best results for each student. Can anyone think of a function in Excel that will sum the eight highest results from a range of marks. Thanks
  14. We want to send out letters (via a mail merger from SIMs) to parents on a Friday. I have used the Date Quick Part to date the letter but we also want to say in the letter that the student will be on report from the following Monday. Is there anyway to use the Quick Part date to perform some kind of calculation that can be used in a field to put the Mondays' date in. I can do it via a macro but would prefer the the date to be automatically inserted rather than have the admin staff have to place the cursor in he insertion point and then run the macro. Cheers
  15. Look in Tools - Setups - Attendance Setup - Module Setup - 3 Exclude from Attendance. Either change the Exclude students with date of birth after date or simply uncheck it. Hope this helps
