Are you, by any chance, in a position to nudge Microsoft about it too? I'd have hoped a major UK education supplier might have more influence than an individual customer...
-
It happens completely at random here - won't show up for hours/days and then a random user will get it. Log out and back in and it's (usually) fine, with nothing having changed on the profile front. Sometimes it happens time after time until a reboot.

Indeed - which makes it harder to find info on the post-logon issue... :/
-
There appear to be two issues - one producing a black screen prior to logon, and another producing a black screen after logon. Not sure if they're related...

The full versions have appeared on our VLSC today!

You could have a look over here and here.

Someone fancied a brand new network? (Fire at West Sussex school)
Ephelyon replied to Andrew_C's topic in General Chat
Agreed with all above! One thing I wouldn't mind hearing in particular is: how long did it take for the insurance company to process the request for new kit (servers in particular)? I wouldn't mind knowing how long we'd have to be using our cold site DR kit for... -

Well, quite. And that, Principals and Principalettes, is how you lose good people! -
Microsoft & EduGeek Whitepaper Feedback thread

It was similar here too on that front. Now the strategic developments are mainly driven by me, with contributions from the Head and the Head of ICT and sign-off by the Head. -
Microsoft & EduGeek Whitepaper Feedback thread
Ephelyon replied to ZeroHour's topic in Cloud Services
Agreed on the job losses front, but in some teams, yes, this is possible. Here, our Head has done what good leaders do and drawn together around him a team of people with similar-but-diverse views and strengths in media and marketing - we are now the team that manages all the school's internal marketing, photography, video creation, banners, posters, leaflets, social media, website articles etc. That team consists of myself as NM, my Technician, the Head of ICT (curriculum), the Librarian and the Head himself - we are due to extend it with an apprenticeship from next week also. The team has grown up organically around the Head and it's a wonderful addition to my role that I certainly wouldn't be without - just wish we could get TLRs for it, though! -

What I pointed out to them was that some of us are already there, combining both the technical and the strategic workflows, which is how I see the NM role anyway... -
@EduTech, without comprising your professional position, are you able to feed these concerns back to the development teams at Microsoft?
-
I'm guessing it's more of a CTO than a CIO role?

"We can't sign in to your account" after installing 1607

Perhaps this thread should be merged with this one from earlier? -

You are taking charge of the situation and minimising impact while ensuring continuity of service insofar as you possibly can. Your strength and tenacity in this situation is to be commended and I suggest that it should serve as a model for others to follow, should they too find themselves faced with this gravest of scenarios. -

Out of curiosity, is it not then the RSC's job to ensure (and facilitate, intervening directly where necessary) the required levels of co-operation from a neutral standpoint? If not, perhaps it should be? -
Confirmed NOT FIXED here in build 14393.82... :/

I expect @ICTDirect_Dave might be able to help with a temporary virtualisation host for this if needed? If not, we have some spare capacity here and could offer up to 16 cores, 64GB RAM and 2.5TB storage. -
Without specific reference to @mavhc, because this is a much broader picture... I think that, for many people, Science has become the Great Liberator - the True Way. They consider that humanity faces a great struggle against the Unwashed - the Heathens. For there is a great tide approaching, a tide of Taxi Drivers, Little Britons and Creationists; the Racists, Sexists and Homophobes; the Ignorers of Data, the Evolution Deniers and - may they burn for it! - the Wealthy. But there is a great rallying call for the True Believers - it is Science! Science is, and shall ever be, "the Way, the Truth and the Life" (to quote the Bible). It will rise up and crush the Unclean; they will quake at its might and crumble before its onward march. Verily, the lost arguments with the Clinically Stupid will be re-won! Those who have made it their mission to take up the call whenever "someone is wrong on the Internet" shall be delivered to Salvation by Almighty Science. Yea, and St Dawkins shall greet them at the gates of the New Era and usher in an age of Self-Righteous Fury.

Temporary Account taking for AGES to sign out
Ephelyon replied to angrycomputingteacher's topic in Windows 10
I'd see if applying the Anniversary Update on one of the netbooks fixes it. -
Temporary Account taking for AGES to sign out
Ephelyon replied to angrycomputingteacher's topic in Windows 10
We've had that here too (and it wasn't just temporary accounts for us) and found that the Anniversary Update seems to address it. Do your netbooks have the update? -
I don't know, I'd say you ought to be courteous if you respect someone really...
-
I'd agree with that. There is a "baseline" level of respect that I will offer to everyone who doesn't do anything to cause me to reconsider it, and there are ways to earn a higher level of respect as well.

It should do if you copy the file to e.g. your desktop and edit it from there. It's because it detects that the file is currently in use (and, if you haven't changed the permissions, read-only).
-
I've found it needs to be done offline, i.e. having booted from a disc or the file replaced in your offline deployment image (then re-imported into WDS or whatever you are using). Although changing the owner from TrustedInstaller to Administrators and then granting Full Control to Administrators removes the permissions issue, sadly the file is constantly in use by WinLogon.exe (or similar) while the system is running. One further note: if you have used the English International version of Windows 10 - as we have - then the file to change is in the en-GB subfolder, not en-US.
