If it's literally just 1 app in essentially "kiosk mode", there probably is. In our case, we needed a secure home screen with access to several at once, plus no access to most forms of settings etc.

Staff iPads here with Meraki MDM for app deployment and certain centralised settings/lockdowns (though not many). Transitioning from shared Apple ID after SLT meeting notes ended up going everywhere and some staff were getting FaceTimes from others' relatives. Not to mention the constant reminders for hairdressing appointments created by a number of people...

SureLock can do that for you, though it's not the cheapest.

We have about 50 of them, 32 on a trolley that's bookable and 18 just for the Science Department (it was a PTFA bid), so they're not 1:1 in any sense. The biggest problem we had with them was fiddling. Lots and lots of fiddling by the pupils. So we got SureLock and things have really settled down.

Thanks to all for the responses And indeed the point of it is to have a good laugh. Clearly there are bits of it that are layered with cynicism and I wouldn't be showing it to any teaching staff... but anyone who's done the job, it seems, will understand...

Some may find that the strategic IT role involves being kicked upstairs to an extent, as with "Director of IT" positions or similar that may sit on SLT. Others find that they subsume the strategic role as part of their normal duties, hopefully finding the time to co-ordinate support, operations and strategy. I suppose they can only hope they will receive appropriate support and understanding from other senior colleagues.

Otherwise I'd deliver the lot via Skype I expect. This is along the lines of an idea I floated with Chris at EICE about introducing a form of mentoring/buddy system to support new/lone techs. There's a sense, @Bradlys, in which I'm "using" you a little bit here as I'd like examples of case studies to show that it could work. There, that's now pretty much my full hand on the table. @Bradlys has no form of on-site server setup at his place and the idea would be to develop a skillset with implementing that, to benefit his employer in the short-term and to make him more employable in the long-term. Although there are (costly) training options available for this, we all know they're often inaccessible to those places with smaller budgets and/or a limited recognition of why they might be necessary. I think that collaborating to support/train each other is something we already do via EduGeek and formalising that a little more into peer mentoring/buddying could be interesting. It would also be important for mentors to have co-supervision with each other, as some potential mentees could be in quite stressful situations. Mentioned it to @witch a couple of weeks ago, partially for that purpose

I, erm... don't think there's going to be any need for condoms. I've had the e-safety talk with him. I'd say posting it is a good thing for accountability as well. @Bradlys, you should inform a trusted person locally as well so others know, helps with safeguarding.

Thanks! I wrote the first four lines a couple of years ago during job evaluation. It was originally "a specialist professional" because that was part of the definition for Level 6 Knowledge that they weren't letting me have. The rest was a weekend time-filler just now. Who wants to sing it?
