believe this is possible by using apple remote desktop if you have it. If you don't have it i recommend getting it, very useful tool. The force local homes is more the one you want to have unticked ( I forgot about that one)

depends is you using 10.5 or 10.6? 10.5: go to applications, then utilities then select directory utility Next click on the services tab and then click on active directory plug in, then the little pencil to edit it. show the advanced options and under the user experience tab you should have all the stuff like create mobile account at login, use unc from active directory........ 10.6 is kinda the same but to get to the directory plug in go to system prefs, then accounts, then login options and where it says network account server, click edit and then click on open directory utility.

Active directory plugin? Is create a mobile account at log in ticked? James

Well presently our osx clients are taking the homedirectory attribute from the AD user record. But I'm trying to find out if people are using extended schema (AD with added ODness), which I presently cant get to work on our test network (Adding to our AD record attributes for apple-user-homeurl) or augmenting which i've also experiemented with (AD records which take have additional records on the OD server, again home directory, bit more sucessful, but makes it harder to manage users as unable to add to groups and have to go through and edit every user with additional records.

that should in theory push that preference every time and is the way it works on my mac network.... How are you doing the homedirectories? Just using the windows home directory, extended schema or augmented?

just a little background check, you have AD users, ad servers and mac servers and macs? All nicely integrated together, and bound together. AD users in open directory user groups. For said user groups you have a mcx preference defined (com.microsoft.office). If you double check on that pref file, you should have 3 headings, once, often and always. where are your preferences defined. With this im guessing once. Delete the com.microsoft.office file and reimport, making sure that when you import it, the managed imported preferences drop down box is "always". Does this cause any change???

you can create the key yes, or you can run it once as a admin to generate the settings then import that plist file into the wgm and go through the settings it has generate to see if they are what you want hope this helps james

The alu imacs did come with the remotes, at least the 2.4ghz 250gb ones did. i have 30 odd sitting in my draw...

Very easily done using a mcx preference. Are you using wgm on a workstation or server. If on a work station, log in on your administrator account and make sure you have word setup. then run wgm and setup the preferences for the user group (od_managed_pupil etc) Click on details then the plus button, then navigate to the user/library/preferences folder and look for ones starting com.microsoft.etc etc etc. select these preferences and set as always. I think the one you are looking for is office but there are plist files to edit the other bits of office 2008 such as the default save format, auto update etc. If you edit these plists what you are making sure you have the setting you want, think the specific one you are after is: com.microsoft.office: 2008\FirstRun\SetupAssistCompleted Value: 1 This should solve your problem. Where i learnt this from was Managing Office 2008 Managing OS X when i first started administrating osx on our network. There is a lot of handy advice there on locking down osx a la style of gpo. I'm running a room of iMac at my school, bound to a OD server and also our School wide AD domain. I've been looking for ways to enable our pupils to have a windows home directory(which we redirect our my documents folder to) and a mac home directory. I discovered the extend schema method, and believe i have correctly extended the schema. When i try to setup/modify the "Home" Settings for the active directory users in Workgroup manager it tells me I am not authorised to carry out the action? does anyone know a solution to this? I'm logging on to the server through screen sharing, as a admin user of the server and then in wgm im authenticated to ad as an administrator. In workgroup manager it says that the home is assigned to the user, but if i dscl the user it just shows the basic windows information. Have I done anything wrong, or is this another quirk of snow leopard? I'm also experiencing problems with our binding to the active directory domain, with both the work stations and the server, DNS seems fine, but the server will randomly lose the bind during the night and the imacs when they restart will randomly connect to ad and some will not thanks james

If you have access to a mac with a fairly recent version of garageband, ie 08 or 09, you can create a ringtone by importing in said file (mp3, aac, wav) edit it to what length you want then under share there is a option to share as ringtone which will import into your itunes library as a ringtone ready to be sync to your phone....

have a look at this thread, seems to be what you are asking... Apple - Support - Discussions - Disable cropping in "classic" style ...

Its being reported that a clean install can be done with the £25 disk and this can even be done on the pre leopard intel systems. The box set just brings ilife and iwork up to date and makes them more compatible/streamlined with SL. Lets hope AD OD doesn't get broken and there is a cheap option to upgrade a whole rooms worth... http://lifehacker.com/5345690/prep-your-mac-for-snow-leopard

Hi everyone, I'm having a mental problem trying to work out if my plan is possible. I have vanilla server 2003 setup and to that i have added a room of macs + osx server. All the AD OD stuff is hunkydorey, all the clients bound to AD and OD and can log on with AD credentials and get home folder as stack. What I set out to do was a little different and i;m going round in circles with augmenting users etc. What i want to have is the windows pcs accessing the home folder which has my documents redirected, and on the macs i want this as a mount on the desktop/finder not as a stack whilst having a mac portable home directory load when the user logs in. or even better, the mac portable home document folder somehow links to the home my document redirection.... Then on top of this a group folder that mounts as a shared area for swapping of photos videos etc What i dont really want is the mac home directory going into windows home directory as then teachers who have links to the kids work directory going through and clearing out library folders. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Should I just give up and get someone like cancom or albian to come configure it for me? Thanks James

Hi, long time reader, first timer poster.... I've just had to buy a replacement projector for one of our classrooms and thought by buying basically the newer version of the projector I would be replace you mean mounting holes would be the same. But lo and behold sanyo haven't made it that easy. The projector we had was the sanyo plc xe31 and we have replaced it with the plc xe32. The plate that attaches to the projector (see picture1) then screws onto another plate with screws in a 70mmx125mm pattern and that in turn is ultimately connected to a rod with a threaded end(see picture 2). Can any one 1) Identify the plate or its manufacturer so i order one without having to replace the whole assembly, or 2) Recommend a mount that i can attach to my threaded rod? http://www.stmargarets.org.uk/gallery/IMG_0122.jpg http://www.stmargarets.org.uk/gallery/IMG_0123.jpg Ta James May St Margarets CofE Junior School
