also what version of office 2008 do you have. Entourage only works with exchange if its Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition, which is part of the mac office 2008 business edition. My understanding is that the version of mail that ships with snow leopard works with exchange -http://www.apple.com/macosx/exchange/

thats what the content of it is in snow leopard Heres a quick screen video of where to find and where the administrative stuff is direcotry utility.mp4

The two things you mentioned are both options in the directory utility; Your directory utility should list these 4 things Active directory BSD Flat file and BIS LDAP v3 Local If you click on active directory and then the pen underneath the box with these 4 things in this will take you to another settings menu. Click show advanced options at the bottom of that window This should give you 3 tabs; user experience, mapping and administrative. User experience will allow you to set the mapping; the option you are after is the use unc path from active directory to derive network home location. Administrative will allow you to select what network users have rights to administrate the machine, with the "allow administration by setting"

yep it is a snow leopard change, the otherway to find it is navigating the library folder i think

they have moved directory utility to a button in preferences>accounts>Login Options> Then were it says network account server, click edit, and when that comes up click directory utility.

mini works very well as a server for doing all the basics like workgroup manager, imagining, web etc, and its a great deal for the one without optical drive and 2 hdd in. Wont handle stuff like podcast producer etc though at same time

WEll we have done the magic circle integration, machines bound to the mac server and the AD domain, but in the summer rebuilt im considering them being 2 seperate entities. I know it can be done but cant find the resources on how to do it or afford a company to come set up; Home directories. You can extend the AD schema so that when logging onto a pc they get a home directory as specified in AD, then if log into a mac get a home directory specified in Work group manager. This maybe down to the way we redirect my documents etc We have microsoft office 2008 on them and while is a great tool, with snow leopard we have had problems saving to the smb home directories(read only, file open with other user, this type of word file cannot be opened) All a bit of a pain so considering the work suite... We have got the edalive software, some coole maths/english games. Also worht looking at is having rmote desktop for control, installation etc

We have installed 32 iMacs in addition to our room of 32 XP Desktops. Well received and great cross curricular space, but depends what its going to be used for. Integrating with Active Directory hasn't worked the way it would be expected and esp with snow leopard having problems with office applications saving. For stuff like Comic Life Magiq, Stop Motion animation, iLife Suite and connecting to learning platforms and using all the features, they are great, for teaching traditional side of ICT like office and stuff, eugh! schoolboy error my end. Restart all over again, but created a bridged connection rather than a nat connection to the network, and BOOM it worked.

Wondering if anyone out there can help. Just testing running SIMS on some of our machines, which just happen to be macs running vmware fusion. I've installed sims and all the .net bits and pieces, plus set up a map drive, all as per installing onto a windows box but when i come to log in its giving me "SIMS connection failed for login *username* reason 0" Ive bound the virtual machine to a domain and this still makes no difference?

Thanks for all your replies guys, tried everything you said, did rebinds, dns flsuhes, gp refreshes, looked at event log and said there was problems gpo but no detail about the reasons. thne i looked at the clock and was an hour out. put an hour onto it and restarted and now it magically applying all the msi files i just created......

Hi I wonder if someone can tell me what to check on a machine that won't install msi files which are set to install using a gpo. The machine is in a room of identical pcs which are all very happy to install during boot up, but this one always skips straight to the login screen. any suggestions? thanks james

Coogee beach is worth a look, much prettier and less commercial than bondi, taronga zoo, the aquarium, the rocks market on a sunday afternoon, then in the blue mountains try and get to the jenowan caves!

infact just checked back to see what happens when i mount smb and afp shares.... both come up as urls...... i connect to my servers using the go>connect to server command then sticking in smb:// or afp:// before the server address and this seems to work fine...
-
just tried this on our network and even though it says url, it still works fine!
-
could you post a screen grab?

I find that all my network accounts available lights are going green first time now, instead of half going green and the other half going yellow and having to be restarted to try and get green
-
have you tried using portable home directories if they are having to sync that much data?
-
what kinda extra shares are you looking to add? In workgroup manager 10.6 can just add extra items to the items list. Do you means like a folder on a windows server? If this is the case, what I did was mount the server directory you want to mount on the administrating machine, go to wgm, login, items, click plus on the list and browse for the mounted directory on your machine... then for good luck, highlight it and click on the authenticate selected share point with users username and password. Is this what you meant? James

When your managing the preferences of the group there is the overview tab and the details tab. If you click on the details tabs, you have the ability to define other preferences like desktop, itunes, microsoft office, in fact any app that creates a file in your ~/Library/Preferences folder. For the desktop your looking for a file called com.apple.desktop IF you add this you can change the paths of the desktops and properties that relate to it. I've made this movie to show you how i do it! Sorry its a zipped file but files sieze was a tad too big for what size mp4 i could upload Adding managed pref.mp4.zip

Just installed it and seems the binding issues maybe fixed? Has anyone else noticed this or are my machines having a good morning? James
-
that is correct. all i have ticked is the unc one, and then what id does is creates the home directory on the active directory speicifed home directory, which is great but can be slow and can be a pain if this is set up as my documents folder etc
