  1. We have a YouTube education account and have various playlists all working brilliantly until this last few weeks, when now videos that are 'whitelisted' are bringing up the Education filter block page. If I create a new playlist and add the video again it works immediately, I thought it might be an anomaly but as it has happened over 10 times in quick succession across multiple playlists I'm wondering if others have had the same problem? Which of course is becoming quite a pain for the school as staff had just starting relying on it... Anyone else having this bother? Cheers
  2. Can't comment on how easy appcelerator is, but I can highly recommend PhoneGap - super easy and quick to knock up an 'applike' site.
  3. So you've got an image that gets overwritten each X seconds and you want to force a browser to update that element each X seconds without a page refresh? Have you pieced together a satisfactory solution from the replies so far, or still looking? Cheers, Jann
  4. If you wish to do this without the bloat of jquery, you can do something along the lines of > https://tinker.io/6c478
  5. Have you got a link to the block on Moodle.org Marci? Browsing through Plugins directory and unable to find your updated version, maybe a delay in the approval process... Cheers
  6. I am unsure about the banners feature of Joomla as I don't use it myself. However, if I was looking to achieve this I would most certainly be using Fancybox which can quite easily display any media you wish with the extra requirements you mentioned.
  7. We have a few console applications written in vb.net and I am interested in converting them to python. I don't seem to be able to find any documentation on running exchange cmdlets from a python environment and was hoping someone on here might have some knowledge on this matter or even if it is possible? Cheers.
  8. Our main office has a range of 6-9 people working in there at anyone time - each having their own laser printer (apart from the 2 people on the front desk who share a printer). We have tried to encourage the removal of these and replace all of them with a high volume printer, trays for all the variations of items they print on etc - but this hasn't happened due to a lack of support from SLT (probably wanting to avoid friction with the admin staff). Your next question about usage - the admin staff in the office have an inflated allowance of 400-600 credits a week and we rarely have to give extra credits. How is the credit system managed - the allowances were decided upon after quite a lot of thought and has only been altered for SLT and a few vocal members of teaching staff. 25/60/400 is the approx allowance for students/staff/slt - admin. Toners - they are ordered by the IT support office and currently departments don't pay for them so as you can guess printing is seen as free and photocopying comes out of department budgets. However we 'encourage' the use of photocopying by restricting the number of copies you can print to 3 and duplicate print jobs are deined within 90 seconds. After over a year of use papercut is well worth the cost and both staff and students happily work within the sensible limits that have been set.
  9. 25th birthday of Microsoft Windows possibly? version 1.0
  10. You also need to consider the functionality gain / loss, we are currently evaluating what will give us the best utilisation - external (as we are now RBC hosted) or internal hosting. For example we use a website called turnitin for plagiarism detection which has an activity integration for moodle which we cannot use as our external host doesn't have the capacity to investigate installing it. Authentication and ability to browse / upload to moodledata is quite a challenge, plus updating filters / themes etc - the list goes on... However, the benefit is upgrades / backups are done for us, which when you think about what we are missing out on and the difficulty of doing these actions yourself it means we need to discuss swapping to internal hosting.
  11. Does anyone know if compatibility mode can be turned on for a website like "vle.school.cumbria.sch.uk" rather than "cumbria.sch.uk" as this would help me partially resolve this issue. Thanks again.
  12. Exploring Science 7 to 9 arrived in our school not long ago and the head of science has asked for the ActiveBook and Activity Pack for each year group to go on our CLEO hosted VLE. The zip files were uploaded soon after and the SCORM packages set up as advised by Pearson (new window), tested in Firefox and IE8 and then we discovered that their VLE material is not IE8 compatible (their fix is to use Compatibility Mode). This fix is not exactly ideal seems as currently I cannot turn compatibility mode on for solely our VLE URL (vle.school.cumbria.sch.uk) it uses cumbria.sch.uk - I don't know if this is possible?! I've seen plenty of threads for network installs for this software and a few for VLE installs but none with this issue, do you all just force compatibility mode on or have another workaround? Any help / suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.
  13. We have downloaded the unit packs from Pearson (EDEXCEL Business Studies), and the original point about delays in interacting with the components I am getting a long delay in both IE and Firefox.
  14. I can only agree with you, however if anyone does have a suggestion of some other software we would appreciate it.
  15. We deliver OCR level 2 and 3, but are coming across problems with the web design tasks. School provides Dreamweaver 2004 MX & CS4 and Serif WebPlus X2 however staff and students have issues with using these packages as they are "too feature rich". As the specs for the OCR courses do not require the full capability of the packages we have. Is there a cut down version of a web design application that doesn't allow students and staff to get stuck quite so easily. The point regarding training is one we are fully aware of, but my question in this topic is about an alternative application to have a look at. Thanks!
  16. Super! just waiting for the page to load currently to see what it says!
  17. This is for .ac.uk addresses and not .sch.uk like most of us have it seems!
  18. We are trying to use a resource on the British Library website called Sounds Familiar? Sounds Familiar? The map loads and we can pick a dialect to listen to, but the embedded windows media player doesn't play the sound file, and the mms stream won't load in windows media player either. We are a school in the CLEO network using a Smoothwall UTM-1000. --- Seems that it is related to CLEO, anyone else in the area able to load the audio files?
  19. After installing the latest package, I am having problems seeing the main menu. It exists in the database, no entries are listed in the admin site of Joomla when viewing the Main Menu (or any menu infact) in menu manager. When looking in the Module Manager at Main Menu (mod_mainmenu) it is not visible when Menu Style is set to the default "List" option, if I change it to any of the Legacy options it is visible but of course not in the same style as on the demo site. I hope this is just a mistake on my part and someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!
  20. If you add atrpms / rpmforge you can install ffmpeg/flvtool2/mencoder and extra codecs much easier. I would also recommend phpmotion for a media server.
  21. If an area already exists on the right-hand side you can just swap the area the modules are published to in the admin interface. Otherwise editing the template php file will allow you move the 'position' locations around. What do you have published in the left and right positions?
  22. I've done some work with local primary schools and based it on the MediaWiki software. Its clearly not html, but it does get over the concept of formating, layout and tags in a manner that the pupils understand. I found with a small amount of customisation you can create content rich websites in a short amount of time. It really depends what you want to achieve, a small basic Hello World type webpage, or an actual website with content that can be built upon.

    SRP and MS Access

We have a SRP for blocking exe files from USB drives / user drives and other shared storage areas. This all works fine apart from .mdb files. From the Designated File Types we have removed the following, mdb ade adp mde This still generates an error saying the policy has blocked the .mdb file from being opened with a double click. However, opening MS Access first and then selecting the .mdb file or right-clicking on it and choosing Open With both work. Have we missed another file extension that needs to be removed from Designated File Types or is this just a quirk of SRP.
  24. As you say another article unpublish correctly, then I would check to see if the article is actually Published (which is not visible on your screenshot). Even though the publish date is set in the future, you still have to tick the Publish box.
