No idea if it gets all the pubs we have here. For a small coastal town we certainly have a lot of places to get a drink in (I counted at least 20 in my head but probably missed some).

Currently we are running Junior Librarian 3.2.2 which is ancient but does exactly what we need and has been pretty solid. We have a maintenance contract with MLS but they are pushing for us to move to the cloud version and have doubled the cost to renew the maintenance agreement while offering to "upgrade" us to their cloud version for the low, low price of £1,400+annual maintenance costs. To be fair that does include migrating the data and setting it all up. I can fully understand them not wanting to support seriously out of date software and promoting their latest products but the way they have done it annoyed me (basically sent spam emails twice a week to every email address they have here for about a month). Also I have not heard good things about their online system and the Liberian really likes using what she already has. Also management ideally want something that is locally installed and run so its not reliant on the internet being up (even though the internet has only been down for a total of about 20 minutes in the 3 years I have been here). So, has anyone used Junior Librarian.net and found it is any good? I like the idea of the Ebook library as well but again not sure it works as smoothly as they say based on what other people have told me. Anyone using that as well? Open to hearing about any alternatives as well.

Also laying power lines and installing them would cause massive disruptions on a motorway system that is already plagued with massive disruptions.

Had the ones outside ours replaced a week or two ago. As someone who regularly likes to stargaze I love them. Sadly one of my neighbours has what must be a *10,000W stadium flood light on the front of their house which is on all night and lights up the whole cul-de-sac. *Actual wattage may be exaggerated.

I used to do CES and a bunch of other trade shows every year as an exhibitor, considering its just standing around chatting to people all day it is exhausting. Few tips I picked up over the years which may or may not be applicable, also may not be twitter sized, sorry: 1) Always have water. Exhibition halls are almost always boiling hot and talking all day will dehydrate you quickly. Make sure you always have water to hand and drink frequently. 2) Always have mints to hand. No matter how good your dental hygiene is, talking all day and being dehydrated will give you bad breath. Have a mint every so often to freshen up. 3) Saline Eyedrops and nasal spray. Being dehydrated in air-conned exhibit halls dry out your nose and eyes. A cheapo saline eyedrops/mister and some nasal spray will save you a lot of irritated eyes, nose and throats. 4) Failing that go and wash your face with cold water regularly. 5) Don't get stuck on the stand, make sure you get out and see the show as well. Most of the best things I have got out of trade shows where from me going out and speaking to people rather than hoping they will come to us. 6) Before you go have a plan for what you want and a plan for following up. I have seen lots of people go to shows, get great contacts/info and then never do anything with it. Pre-book a couple of days directly after the show to take action while it is still fresh in everyone's minds. 7) Hand sanitiser and moisturiser. Use sanitiser constantly and moisturise as the sanitiser will wreak your skin when you are using it 100 times a day. You will still get a cold anyway. 8) Take pain killers and plasters with you. Nothing worse than having a banging headache and no way to deal with it. 9) Take notes, personally I like to do it the old fashion way with a notebook and pencil, use what you find easiest/quickest. Make notes of key points in talks you attend or anything that catches your interest. There is a lot going on and its easy to forget things.

Two areas I'm looking at right now and was wondering what other people are using/would recommend. Thought I would ask about both in one post to save clutter Sen software: We are looking for software to help with children that may have difficulty with reading and writing. One big requirement is speech to text. Things like mind mapping, etc are also needed. We were apparently using Dragon for the speech recognition but I don't have the install media or license information for it so would need to repurchase. Online resources: Currently we have Skooville for year 3-6, Education city and Espresso for everyone. However SLT are looking if these are really being used enough to justify the cost and if there was any better options out there. We like Skooville for the heavily moderated/safe social aspect of it. Any feedback on what other primary's are using in these areas would be great. I have found a ton of options but the majority seem to be overpriced junk to be honest. The biggest problem is that only some of the teachers are really pushing the online resources so I would love to find something I could get the teachers excited about using as well.

Just got Farming Simulator 17. Might sound sad but its a great game. Not massively different to 15 but there are a lot of nice little touches that make it worth buying even if you do have 15.

Thanks. I ended up using ncstechnology.co.uk and was seriously impressed. Not only solved the problem but went out of their way to explain what they where doing and why. As a solo tech having someone who takes the time to share knowledge as well as solve the problem was awesome.

I did working at heights recently which basically taught me that I can't do anything at heights unless I have more certification

I'm having issues with our Wireless Network and looking to get someone in to reconfigure it and do a network health check (its currently set up in a really strange way which makes managing it a nightmare). It is a fairly straight forward setup with nothing fancy going on. Can anyone recommend a company to contact for this, or maybe a sponsor deals with this kind of work? We are based in SE Kent. There are a few I have contacted already but always prefer to go with recommendations from other edugeekers if possible Thanks.

I have to say this looks like complete junk, whoever thought this was a good idea is seriously out of touch with most gamers. It's not powerful enough for a home console with its "tablet" format and limited hardware it can't compete. 720p... My phone was capable of 720p display over 5 years ago. As a mobile device it doesn't look any better than a a decent spec tablet. In fact if it doesn't have media capabilities, internet browsing and is stuck to the propitiatory memory cards it is worse than most tablets. The clip on controllers look rubbish. Might be ok(ish) when attached but they are way to small and not enough buttons to be good for most modern day games. Nintendo its not 1991 anymore, most people want more than 2 buttons to play a game with. Also this is not innovation, Bluetooth controllers for mobile phones and tablets where available before Android was even out. Who the hell can't stop a game for 10 minutes to take their dog for a walk.... who the hell takes their console with them and plays on it none stop while walking their dog. Poor advert dog. Also if someone comes to a BBQ, pulls out an NX and sets it up on a table people wont gather around to watch, they will likely punch them in the face for bringing a terrible "console" to a BBQ. If people wanted to play a console at my BBQ they could go inside and do it on the 50inch TV, with decent controllers, and a better selection of games. If I want to mobile game I will use my phone, it is in my pocket anyway and there are some pretty awesome games on it (not to mention emulators). If I want to game at home I will use a console that is a lot more capable then the NX appears to be. Why Nintendo still thinks that underpowered/overpriced consoles are still a good idea I don't know. Stop trying to be "innovative" and start creating something good that people actually want. I don't want or need something that tries to do both and makes a mess of it. Also the no updates, no installing to HD, no worrying about a new system coming out. I don't see anything here that says these wont still happen with the NX, other than maybe installing to the HD, instead it might just update directly on the "game card".# TL:DR - I'm not really a fan

Just a mirage, probably just a ship on the horizon and the mirage creates a lens effect which distorts the shape of it. It is pretty common along with ones that make boats look like they are floating above the water.

Hmm it depends on what you are expecting. If you are expecting the tapes to become a big part of the story with some kind of reveal then you will be disappointed, so far at least they are just character motivation. Initially that was why I started watching it, thought it would be more about sci-fi multiverse stuff. 6 episodes in though and that doesn't really matter anymore as its much more about the characters. The character and world development does get much better as it goes along. In my opinion it does a pretty good job of painting a world under Nazi rule i.e. totally brutal, unable to trust anyone, no freedom and living in constant fear. In the episode I just watched I actually felt real tension and anxiety due to the actions of one of the characters that was quite obviously walking into a trap. It is not often I can say a TV show does that to me.

Just bought Rimworld last night. Was trying to hold off until it was on sale but finally caved. Only played for an hour so far but it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. My first colony lasted about 30 minutes when I broke through a wall to uncover a bunch of guys with machine guns, my 3 guys armed with knives and pistols didn't last long

I'm halfway through watching Man in the High Castle really enjoying it so far. In brief the world shown is one in which the Axis won World War 2 and America is now ruled by the Nazis and Japan. The writing and acting are first class and you really feel the sense of despair and desperation the characters are going through. Also started watching Westworld which looks like it might turn into an interesting series.
