The IE8 ADM gets updated when IE8 is installed on the server...lots of extra stuff to configure. I'm sure there is something about a proxy in it.

Hi, I had a few problems with slow printing today. I looked on the server and discovered that the CPU was running at 100%. In task manager i have over 100 ntvdm.exe processes open aswell as the usual set. The server is running Windows 2003 R2 and is just a print server with Sophos Enterprise Console installed also. I have restarted the server but they just come back. I have used the process explorer from sysinternals and all the ntvdm.exe entries come under the print spooler. I know that the ntvdm.exe process is something to do with 16bit processes, I just can't understand why they would suddenly just appear. Any ideas chaps?

Hi, It turns out that the council had upgraded SIMS and decided not to tell me. Once I had copied the Setups folder from the admin server to the curriculum server, all the client updated and are now working. So much for them keeping me informed!! Thanks for the replies

The error 4319-7990-9000 comes up as soon as you open SIMS. When you click on solutions you get nothing. When you click ok SIMS will close. The message comes up everytime you open SIMS, so I cannot use it at all! I have attached a screenshot of the error. As far as I am aware nothing has changed with SIMS or the SIMS server (I don't touch it). I have tried running the SIMSAPPLICATIONSETUP again but that doesn't do anything. I have just got 30 of these laptops! I had to upgrade the firmware on my HP Access Points for them to be able to connect using the encryption. Now I have the problem that they work when not joined to the domain, but when joined they fail to get an IP. Does anyone know why this could be *sorry to hijack* I have tried the usual upgrading the drivers but no luck

Hi, I have 3 DC's 2 of which are 64 bit and 1 is 32 bit (all 2003 r2). I know you can't install exchange 2003 on a 64 bit OS. The member server that will run exchange 2003 is a 32 bit server. My question is, is there anything to stop me running the domain and forest prep on the 32 bit DC and it replicating to the 64 bit servers? The main DC is a 64bit server, does it matter which DC I run the domain and forest prep? Thanks for any advice recieved

I never use SIMS so I didn't know it was as simple as right clicking and customising text. I have mentioned it to our Office Manager and she is going to change it. God knows how it happened. Thanks for your help on this

Hi, We currently have 2 DCs and 1 exchange server. I have just purchased 3 servers to replace/add to the current setup. 1 of the current DCs will remain a DC along with 2 of the new servers (so 3 DCs in total) The other new server will become the new exchange server (4 servers in total). A new domain will be created during the revamp. This will include recreating all users. I will be following How to Move Exchange Server 2003 to New Hardware and Keep the Same Server Name to transfer exchange to the new server. So the exchange server will have the same name, ip and be setup the same as the old server. My problem is getting users mailboxes associated with the new user accounts once the databases have been copied to the new exchange server. The usernames etc will be exactly the same. Does anyone have any information on this? Or have you done it before? Many thanks, Rob

You search for a member of staff (doesn't matter who) Double click them to open up their details All the iniformation should show up like so: Title -Drop down box with Mr, Miss, Mrs etc- Surname -box for typing- Forename -box for typing- etc etc etc But ours shows like this: Whole school training -Drop down box with Mr, Miss, Mrs etc- Surname -box for typing- Forename -box for typing- etc etc etc I hope that makes more sense. I would include a screenshot but I am at home Its not something we can change its hard coded into the page!

I have noticed that in SIMS if you load up any member of staff, where the 'title' field is, instead of saying title it says 'Whole Staff Training'. The drop down box next to it still has all the correct info (Mr, Mrs etc etc) but the field is named wrong. Has anyone else noticed this? The only reason it was flagged was because we had a problem creating new users on our RM LP.

I'm using this already at all the schools I manage. I have caught a few people. It even managed to catch a pupil that broke a window in the school by proving when he logged off (even though he said he was never there) Very nice script!

eCopy was the solution we were shown. Our ICT teachers wanted to replace MS Word with it! Did you go with the mini laptop attached to the photocopier? Have you used it at all, if so how do you find it? We were shown a simulation of the software on the photocopier, I wasn't that impressed!

We do have something in our AUP regarding damage to any hardware. I use the script that was posted on here that logs each machines logon/logoff events so I know excatly who was on the laptop at the time. The pupils have been dealt with and most pupils know that it won't be tolerated but you still get some rebel pupils that don't care. Our head seems to be reluctant to send bills home I best not say anything else on this subject, I don't want to spread the word about this and cause other people headaches! Thanks for the help guys

Hi, Has anyone got the functionality to scan directly to SIMS using a photocopier or software on a machine. We are thinking of getting it here but want to make sure that we will use it before paying for it. We have had a demo and it does look good. My biggest fear is that it will turn out to be like other things in our place, we think it looks good, we buy it and then it never gets used. We don't have the capacity in school to keep all records for pupil 10 years after they leave so this seems to be the solution our bursar has come up with. If you do have it in your school can you give me some info on the following: 1) How many staff use it 2) How did you go about implementing it i.e everything scanned to SIMS or a rolling programme? 3) Do you think it is value for money? @witch The pupils use usb pens all the time so I cannot disable the ports @mac_shinobi It is actual keys i.e house, shed keys, bike lock etc. At first I thought it was a joke but when I tested it and saw it shutdown (not via the normal shutdown routine just off) I was amazed. I have had to send 2 laptops away due to a damaged hard drisk because of this.

Has anyone seen it where a pupil puts his/her keys into a usb port on a laptop and that causes it to turn off the laptop? It has become a problem here, a game to the pupils. I have been asked how I can stop this but I have no clue and I didn't know it was possible. The laptop are all Acer and have a USB port on the front which is the most common to be 'played' with.
