I have a love/hate relationship with Elite, maybe it's because I'm still waiting for wings to be added or maybe it's because the Frontier team haven't replied to a single ticket I've sent them from last year. I go for weeks without playing and then play solidly for ages..

I think as others have said, for your own peace of mind it is easier to remain skeptical. I've had experiences I can't outright explain, but then again I can't outright explain why this MSI isn't deploying correctly either.. but I digress. The inventory system isn't really worth using if you have more than around 100 devices - Spiceworks has a habit of throwing tantrums! I use it for the helpdesk which syncs with AD and it all runs perfectly, for the inventory/asset management it's better to use a 3rd party one.

See As someone with OCD, the SpeedFan icon sitting staring at me can be a life or death situation! There is also the issue of power, some mobo headers may not be able to handle quite as much power as a direct-to-PSU controller can. This also means you'll get higher RPM speeds connected to the controller than the mobo. If you've got high amperage fans, you could burn out your mobo header plugging them into it..

Actually, yes.. If I'm playing a game, I will want my ambient temperature to be cooler so I'll put all of my fans at 100%. If I'm watching a movie etc I want my computer to be silent so I'll creep the speeds down until I'm happy and temperatures are stable. I also watercool both my GPU and CPU and control the pump via my fan controller.. so yes, it's quite useful. I'd much rather have direct hardware control than use 3rd party software.

Pretty much spot on, though I tend to disable it when I see it - I've read too many reports of it going wrong so I'd rather adjust manually!

Most important thing is to just take it in small increments, doing large jumps is how you break things. Do a small increase, then play a game - if you don't get any artifacts and the temperature is stable then you can continue to increment. Obviously overclocking is quite dependent on your RAM too, what do you use?

I'm using a NZXT Sentry 2, average priced but does the job perfectly! all fan controllers are pretty easy to set up! I used to use one which showed temperatures as well, but the little temperature gauges kept coming loose so I gave up on it.

I want to be a Balrog (before they pretty much died out) - imagine how cosy it'd be if you were an entity of flame and shadow.. I pity the fool.

I use both consoles and I prefer the xbox design hands-down, they've always been more comfortable and ergonomic in my opinion. The Playstation design is good but I think they're reluctant to change it because of it's legacy.

This thread is turning into an CPU war! that being said, the difference between an i3 and i5 is obvious - you WILL notice a difference. That is because most people do not use their computers PURELY for gaming, they will be using browsers, players, listening to music, a lot of the times multiple things at once. I know I run Chrome and Spotify at the same time while playing a game. In addition, everyone's missing the fact that you can get an i5 that's less powerful than an i3 and vice versa. There are hundreds of variations when it comes to Intel processing. You could get a top of the line i3 or a bottom of the line i5 for varying prices. You could get an i5 with a similar core clock speed to an i3 at a similar price range but you've got the added bonus of 2 extra cores.* *Prices obviously vary, I'm using PassMark for reference.

You've obviously never played an Arma game.. or DayZ! *shudders*
