I am a member of unison, but I've never seen them speak about 'IT staff in schools' as a group. I'm afraid we come under the goverment-wide classification of 'Public sector workers.'

Just the ability to create users from a csv and put them into groups/ou would be fantastic. My gps do the rest, ie create user folder and link it to my documents. I rant again, this SHOULD be part of the microsoft server OS. Have you seen that advert on telly from microsoft going on about it's the best thing in education since sliced bread. What a load of rubbish. About the only thing they've done for education was MS encarta. But server/desktop software? They should take a lesson from Apple's macmanager. Rant over and sorry for being slightly off-topic

Welcome Overworked! Like the name. I'm pretty new here myself but I do feel at home already. Most of the crew on here are good lads, not to go blowing their trumpet or anything! But it's nice to have people to talk to who understand what you have to put up with, and to help you with the day to day problems that are unique to school setups!

If you have flowol for PC, you can get a mac version as well. You might be able to install it under your current license.

Well I had a subription last year to PC pro, but I didn't renew it. True, I couldn't fault the quality of articles and the bench tests, but I just got fed up of them putting tv programs on the DVD rather than the stuff you want: useful free programs. Who want's tv programs like 'Starry night theatre' or 'mountain lion' on the front of your DVD? You are buying a PC mag, not a discovery channel advertisement. Anyway, glad to hear the letter was published. I just hope people bother to read it.

We are paying for a professional security installation of Cameras. I managed to get the school to put in IP cameras as opposed to analogue ones! So the installation will consist of 2 servers, 40 cameras and data cabinets all over the place. My question is, who of you out there has an installation of ip cameras for security? How many do you have? What software do you use? I would be interested to know how you find them in practise. Cheers

To be fair, Stewart did not say that it was random chashing. He said that evertime she switched the pc on, it took less time for it to crash. That means there is a pattern.

Overheating. There is a a setting in the BIOS which tells the computer to shut down if it reaches a certain temperature. That would be my guess!

Yes, but I have the feeling that CLEO have seperate rules for us in Cumbria. I think they think we are primitive. They down lock everything and we have to argue to get it opened!

I did think it might be CLEO. It wouldn't surprise me. Have you tried it yet?
