Well, something came up in eventvwr after i tried to initiate failure. "The disk associated with cluster disk resource 'Disk H:' could not be found. The expected signature of the disk was F615BF09. If the disk was removed from the server cluster, the resource should be deleted. If the disk was replaced, the resource must be deleted and created again in order to bring the disk online. If the disk has not been removed or replaced, it may be inaccessible at this time because it is reserved by another server cluster node." Not sure what to make of it.

If i initiate failure on one of the resources, it just comes straight back online again on the same node. There are no visible disks in 'my computer' other than the local C drive. Normally if it fails over, the drives are still visible but aren't accessible, obviously. Now there are no drives there.

Thanks for the reply. How would i try failing it back, is there a simple button that i'm completely missing? Or does it involve taking node1 offline? Nothing in eventlog that jumps out which was a nightmare as i it could have happened any time after last Wednesday night!

Hi. This seems to have happened randomly last week and i only noticed because the backup has failed. We have two nodes clustered node1 and node2. Node2 should have resources and now hasn't. Node1 has taken them. I know this should fail back over, however, node2 has lost it's drives in "my computer". Normally if it fails over to node1, the drives are there to see. Now they're not and i'm completely lost. Tried a couple of reboots and the order i booted them in. Node2 boot first and brought up no extra drives at all. Node1 booted and had all the drives and owned all resources. Cluster Admin can also see node2 as far as i can tell. If i have missed out any information just ask and i'll try and explain. I'm a complete novice with Cluster etc and don't want to go randomly clicking. Cheers in advance, Stu.

It's Xstandard, which is a development tool apparantly. I emailed them and they fobbed me off to the developer who also can't help me . This was Xstandards reply What it does is gives a you an extra tool bar in a text window on a website, just like the one we're typing in here. If it can't get the licence it shows the 'lite' version which doesn't have this extra toolbar. Apparently this is a big thing for my boss.

I have no idea. We use mandatory profiles and i made them by leaving them as .dat, doing what i had to do, including getting this licence working, then made it mandatory. Then every user that uses it should get all the settings including this licence, but they don't. It may even be a local setting. When i was doing a load of testing, the first mandatory user (eg. user.001) to log on to the pc got the licence, then if user.002 logged on with the same mandatory profile, they didn't, user.003 and so on also didn't, but i think user.001 did again. The only way around this has been user.001 .002 etc with a non-mandatory profile. But unfortunately this means recent programs are the same etc and kids may mess about with program settings. We haven't let this loose on the kids yet though

'Do not save settings at exit' is only for desktop features, so i doubt that will work as it still saves new shortcuts if they're created and i guess it will probably save application data etc too. I think i'll look into "Prevent roaming profile changes..." as mentioned, as i looks like it might do a job.

Yep. I think this was one of the final things i done before i realised that it was fine with an open profile. However, if the GPO mentioned above does the trick, i'm happy with it being open and the gpo not saving any changes. Can't believe i've miss the option 'don't save settings' I still haven't had a chance to check just yet.

According to the administrators of the site and Xstandard (both of which couldn't help me find the problem / solution that i found!) the server needs to give or grab this file. Especially infuriating when it's a 1k text file

Yeah. User gets a mandatory profile from AD when logging on to XP machines. Other than this bloody portal editor plug in, it's fine. XStandard needs to send and receive a licence apparantly to implement it. For some reason our mandatory profiles stop this, so i created a roaming open profile and it's fine. I tried all sorts, including forcing tempory internet files to save to a share and locally, with no luck.

Very true, but if it doesn't get the licence the site doesn't run properly and i get my hand slapped.

cheers domino, i'll check that out. @ amcevoy - there's a licence file off our portal intranet which needs the profile to be open for some reason. Mandatory doesn't suit at all. Drives me mad!

yeah, i know that. However, what i want to do is have a non-mandatory profile that i can write to during a session and when it logs off it doesn't save what's been changed.

I'd like to have the users log in with an open profile (it needs to be open for a couple of bits of software to work) but then when they log off, i don't want them to save the changes to the profile. So technically it would be a open profile but they wouldn't be able to save the changes because it's "mandatory". Hope this made sense! Is there anyway i can do this using a GPO or another way? Cheers!

Thanks all, i'll look into each of the solutions above. @srochford They are part of the domain, yes. I've searched for GPOs that might be running and are stopping this script, however, the machine is in a new OU and only has a domain policy which doesn't have anything running and the users that i'm testing with don't seem to have anything that would stop, either. We don't use logoff scripts, unless the previous technician has them hidden away somewhere, somehow (which wouldn't be the first time!).

And then only leave a restart button? It's a possible solution, especially if you can just leave the restart button there.

We have bootcamped our new iMacs. Now we need to have XP restarting when the user selects logoff. I have followed the following directions The script works fine if i run it manually. However, when i log a user off it just flashes up 'Running logoff scripts' and doesn't reboot, it just logs off as usual. Any ideas? I've also gave "Force shutdown from a remote system" access to 'INTERACTIVE' as suggested in another forum. So, the script works fine, the local GPO doesn't want to run it despite it apparantly trying...
