Apologies, I should have updated this. Yes, you can restrict the root site via permissions and it doesn't effect subsequent sites. To do this, visit the root site http://[tennantname].sharepoint.com , click on the cog in the top right (as long as you are a global administrator) / site settings / site permissions. I added another administrator group to 'Team site owners' as none were listed and didn't want to lock myself out, but once that's done you're safe to delete the other groups that are listed. Best wishes, Bobby

Dear all, See below. We have some users saving to the default/root SharePoint site in our O365 tenant. I would like to disable/delete/hide it. - We've disabled the ability for users to create their own sites, but we're unsure if any other sites have already been created; is there an easy way of seeing this? - Is the recommended? - Has anyone done anything on this before that could advise? Best wishes, Bobby

Dear all, May I ask your support. We are starting to use Microsoft Teams more and more but it's missing a profanity filter. It'd be great if, as fellow geeks, you could up-vote for it's implementation: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/33454726-profanity-filters-in-teams?tracking_code=54e0944c5ffddbe90f6b504bfad30661 BW, Bobby

Multi-school Helpdesk with Asset and deply
Bobby_Moore replied to fdiogo's topic in Enterprise Software
I would pose the question that the benefit you get for linking tickets to assets, for usually having to adopt a sub-par asset system has resulted in me usually keeping the two systems separate. What we do is setup dummy assets to 'rooms'. Many systems can set up automated reports so that if requester raises > x tickets in one week, raise/highlight. or if room => x tickets in one week raise/highlight. We use FreshService; it's worth looking at but the asset system is poor. -
Has anyone experienced any issues upgrading their O365 tenant from oAuth 1 to oAuth 2 (required for 2FA)?

Confusion over personal & work Google accounts.
Bobby_Moore replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
You could use Google GPO for this? https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/7572556?hl=en Force particular domains. If they want to use their personal accounts they can use a different browser? -
Dear all, A funky Thursday issue for you: We have a high multitude (not all) of projector screens going pink since the installation new workstations. The units are plugged in with USB powered VGA startech splitters. The PC screen is fine and not affected, only the projected image. Plugging the projector directly in the PC does not resolve the issue. Changing resolutions doesn't do anything. Different projector models affected. New looms or projectors seem to resolve the issue. Out of 20 classrooms replaced, we have had 6 rooms affected. Has anyone ever seen anything like this!? Bobby,

Dear all, I think should own stocks by now due to the amount of Sahara speakers I've bought over the years: SAHARA - 1050006 - SPEAKERS, 32W WITH USB & VOLUME | CPC UK However, they are no longer being manufactured apparently. Anyone have any recommendations for speakers which can be adjusted at the front of the speaker unit. I am sure some of our staffing body struggle to get changed in the morning let alone adjust the volume via the PC... As you can probably tell, usability > spec in this case. Best wishes, Bobby

The dirty hack doesn't work, thought i'd let people know I guess the local service needs access to it, so would probably work with a 'netsh winhttp set proxy' command. Not feasible solution mind.

[ms office - 2010] Word 2010 Exam login - remove right-click context menu

This doesn't seem to work in 2016 for us, are there any updated commands anyone knows about? -
Thanks @3s-gtech

Problem is I now have three variables of install path and causing issues with my shortcuts: 64: program files 64: program files (x86) 32: program files Means I can't do a, 'if 64 bit', go here...
-
Nope, only one instance. All installs and updates are now controlled by SOLUS3 and updates have been going through ok... Any other ideas?
-
Dear all, Running SOLUS3. I some 64 bit machines, some that have installed SIMS to the 'Program Files' directory and some to the 'Program Files (x86)' directory, why is this? Are there 64 and 32 bit versions of SIMS? How do I tell SOLUS to choose one over another? Bobby

@Brimstone is there any update on existing VPP and DEP customers? Having set our original setup sometime ago, would it be possible to generate a new account and run it alongside our existing install? Best wishes,

Hey all, Thanks for your comments. On the whole, it does seem like there is not any 'revolutionary' new units that are making extensive savings but methods/practices to obtain it (refurbs, trades-in etc). For us, we want these units to last in the region of 7/8 years. If we can get the unit cheaper by buying standard SATA and 4GB, we can easily upgrade those components later to reduce the outlay, where as the processor is a bit more restrictive/expensive. Problem is that no replacement plan has been put in place and we are trying to catch up. @sonofsanta - I totally agree about the i3 comment but my thought was there is minimal cost difference and we have quite a long duration we want them to last @Xellpnz - We did quite an extensive data capture (Lakeside software) to form a review of our base requirements across site. Currently, 95% only require 4GB of RAM but as I've stated, easily upgraded at a later date. Thanks again all, Bobby

Dear all, We are about to send out an RFQ (government framework) for our workstation replacement. We have around 550 devices on-site and are looking to replace over 100 of them this year. This is the requirements we are sending out: · 20” Wide screen monitor & stand - or above o Can be third party · Small form factor / Slim PC that can attach to the back of aforementioned monitor via a monitor bracket/mount o This will make the PC a more ‘all-in-one’ configuration – examples *attached o Mount/stand should be same manufacture as PC · 4GB Ram or above · Intel i5 processor – 2.9ghz quad, 5th generation or above o No mobile (M, T or U) processor models o Has a benchmark of over 6800 - https://www.cpubenchmark.net · No DVD Drives I tend to steer away from the smaller companies and buy into reputable vendors, like HP/Lenovo etc. What are people doing for mass PC replacements? Are people finding the Intel NUCs value for money? We are using VDI to achieve some cost savings but PCs in question require a bit more local processing power, didn't know if people are using any new methods to achieve any considerable cost savings? Best wishes,

iPad Management - Block Contacts Meraki MDM
Bobby_Moore replied to Bobby_Moore's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I also found out the reason why I am getting the contacts - it's because of a shared exchange account we added to grant the ability to send work from the devices. Looking into blocking contacts for an individual user in exchange 2010. No settings in meraki to specify which parts to sync when adding a mail account either (unlike when you do it manually) thanks @InterwebsGuy -
Dear all, It would appear our students are starting to create rude contacts on the devices and, as far as I've seen, we are not able to block the contacts app using the Meraki MDM. This post would indicate it is available in other MDM solutions: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7161161?start=0&tstart=0 I suspect they are sharing them over AirDrop, a provision we would like to leave enabled as it is a good tool if used correctly. They all are using different Apple IDs per device. Any one managing an iPad estate that has found/resolved this issue? Best wishes, Bobby
