  1. Thanks, I may well try that if things don't calm down here soon.
  2. I have just tried upgrading the APS to version 11 .0.9 and now I get an Apache Tomcat - "HTTP Status 404 - Servlet action is not available" error, whenever I try to access it. I'm about to contact RM, and I'll post the outcome if/when it's found. If anybody else has already had this issue resolved please let me know. Thanks Lee
  3. Still no joy I'm afraid. Thanks anyway.
  4. Thanks djm, I'll give that a go. Unfortunately, by the time I got your message I'd given up hope and re-installed Exchange but this time only on SP1 - but it's still doing the same - can receive but not send. COuld it be an issue at the central 'county' level?
  5. Thanks for the reply Geoff. I have tried various combinations, but still no sent emails. I'm assuming that it's because the mails are filtered via the LEA or county first. I'll just have to bite the bullet and do a re-install of exchange without SP2 - unless there's an easy way of removing the service pack. I can't seem to find one. Thanks again for your help.
  6. I've recently installed Exchange on to a new server, which went a lot better than I thought it would. However, I have since upgraded to SP2 which has now stopped me being able to send any e-mails. When an e-mail is sent to an external address we get the following message:- "The following recipient(s) could not be reached: external email address on 10/11/2006 12:05 You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator. <server.domain.local #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 This system is configured to reject spoofed sender addresses> If anyone else has come across this and sorted it please let me know. I'd rather not have to remove and re-install exchange.

    Squid beginner

My assistant and I got the job by default - the network manager who was here was relieved of his duties. We got called in to do it because the head of my school is also temp head at this one. Thanks for your help though guys.

    Squid beginner

I've just had to take over a network using FreeBSD and Squid at the web-filtering setup. As I've never really used any Linux platforms before I'm finding it very difficult to do anything with this command-line OS. I need to open a certain port on the firewall but I don't know how. Would anyone be able to post an idiots guide walkthrough on how to do it? I will also need to be able to change certain blocked sites if there's an easy way of doing that too. Thanks in advance. Lee

    Web Filtering

Does anyone know if it's possible to force google safe search through Symantec Web Security. I'm currently looking into changing our filtering software but at the moment this is provided free of charge, (county wide). We do have quite a few problems with the pupils turning safe search off. Also, I don't know if any of you have come across www crashmypc com before. Some of our little cherubs have just discovered it. It appears to freeze the pc, but after about 30 seconds to a minute a message saying, "You're a jerk", pops up and everything returns to normal. Just another site to add to your block list. Thanks, Lee
  11. No-one seems to have mentioned that the Ranger Remote Control package is also basically a re-branded version of NetSupports remot control app. We currently use Ranger, but I inherited that from my predecessor. Convincing the head to change after spending all that money on it only a couple of years ago will be difficult. Anyway, back to work for me. Cheers, Nightowl
  12. I think you might be onto something there. That would certainly test them..lol Nightowl
  13. That's exactly the sort of thing I need - I know it may seem basic but given the job title "Trainee ICT Technician" I shouldn't get too involved in the whole AD, DNS, DHCP, etc. Basically it's just a test of basic knowledge of computers and networks in general, and also common sense. I have managed to convince the head to move the interviews back a week, so that I can make sure I'm as prepared as the applicants hopefully will be. Again, I'll appreciate any ideas. Thanks. Lee.
  14. The head is interviewing on Monday for a Trainee ICT Technician and at short notice has asked me to provide either some practicle tasks for the interviewees to do or some written scenarios, for them to answer. Would anyone have any suitable scenario type questions as I've not got much time to organise them and my minds gone blank :? If you have any suggestions please let me know as I'm going loopy trying to do that whilst setting up for English online pilot exams, and KS3 ICT Pilot tests. Thanks Lee [email protected]
  15. We've just had a brief practice session with a group of about 25 pupils, and to my suprise, it went quite well, (after the initial moan about "nothing looks right" and "I can't find Powerpoint!"). The only real issue we had was that on two computers, we received an error message about " 'unhandled exception' "and " 'child' is not a child control of this parent." Has anyone else had this error. Can't find anything on the RM site about it. Thanks. Lee.
