@Bev as I understand it from the documentation: "The Device Enrollment Program provides a fast, streamlined way to deploy institutionally owned iPad and iPhone devices and Mac computers that are purchased directly from Apple. " https://www.apple.com/ipad/business/...e_EN_Feb14.pdf

How about Internet Recovery https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314

For the mac you can try recovery mode (assuming it has a recovery partition hopefully): Boot into the Mac OS X boot loader menu by holding down the OPTION key at system start Choose the Recovery drive to boot into recovery mode and wait until the “Utilities” screen appears Pull down the “Utilities” menu and choose “Terminal” At the command line, type “resetpassword” without the quotes Confirm the new account password, then reboot the Mac as usual

Thanks for the input. Some data is saved in Google Drive but users rely heavily on saving to their Documents/ folder, iMovie data etc. As for the password, yes changing it for them is an option, we'll just have to make a full proof plan for the keychain mess etc Appreciate your time!

Devices are added by order number, my orders have spanned 3 different Apple account numbers.

" https://www.apple.com/ipad/business/docs/DEP_Business_Guide_EN_Feb14.pdf Now that I think about it, I had a very similar issue. Check with your boss, make sure you are using any and all Apple customer numbers. We have 3 Apple customer numbers, 1 was a little older, but when I left that out of DEP, I realized we were short about 50 iPads

All purchased direct from Apple right? I'm looking for the verbiage but all devices need to be purchased from Apple in a couple of methods to be able to participate

As the end of the school year approaches, we are revisiting our laptop imaging and distribution processes. When we issue a new laptop to a current user, we move all of their user data from the current institutional laptop to the new, set up the environment etc. This has a sticky scenario with it where need to have their password to get this accomplished. Wondering if others can share how they transition users to replacement laptops and if/how you collect/store any passwords. Thanks, Tom

Seawolf when you say "migration utility", are you referring to migration assistant? Yes We use DS and Casper, but pulling down data from the network with Crash Plan is very time consuming. A colleague wrote a shell script today using rsync that we invoke after the image process, works really well.

In no way are we in a position to tell people to back it up themselves or lose it, not our culture in the school. BTW we do backup all user work via Crash Plan Pro which is one of the best purchase we ever made. TM really isn't an option for us in a near enterprise setup, we are talking 1000 machines. We promise users that their new machine will have all of their data less any custom apps they installed which they will do themselves

What to do with Google Drive Data from Student and Employee Attrits
tommyday replied to tommyday's topic in Cloud Services
Yes we too encourage the takeout piece with Google Takeout. So what happens if you delete the users files after that year that they still "own" in your domain and users have been actively using some of that for year and then you delete it? -
In the last few years our user base has really started to embrace and use Google Drive in a big way. As I am preparing to delete our recent student attrits and graduates, I am juggling what to do with their Drive data. In years past we would transfer it to a standard admin account and house the data there in case some of the files were shared with students that still may be active in the school, though no way of me really knowing 100%. Basically just making sure a current student isnt hurt by lost data. But at what point can I get rid of those transferred files I ask myself? Wonder how others tackle this issue? There must be a better way of transferring ownership of Drive data to others that had these files shared with them without having to go and look at tens of thousands of files? For employees attrits, we just transfer ownership to the department head and have them decide who to give future ownership to. No files are lost when I delete the attrit and my hands are washed clean of maintaining that Drive data.

Hi, When our employees and students get new laptops every few years, we load an image on the new machine with apps etc, bind it to AD, login in with the AD user to create a mobile account. We would then copy the user data from old machine to the new by target disk mode, drag and drop. Just wondering how others accomplish this every summer in the edu world?

Are they 2008 MacBooks? We had some of those last year with same issue. Not sure but i think there is something with the NIC. Anyway, try booting it in target disk mode attached to a machine that will work with DS, when choosing which disk to load the DS image on, select the HDD on the problematic MB.
