Wifi power levels compared to mobile phones.
hotwired007 replied to farmerste's topic in Wireless Networks
i remember in my last job i was working on a Belkin pre-n router (108mb 3 antena) thing and i had that on my desk about 30 cm from me... from tuesday that week in the afternoon i was getting splitting headaches and going home... i had a 35mile drive home and by the end of that the headache had cleared... the next week i moved the router to the otherside of the room and just used a long ethernet cable to work on it... no headaches... take whatever impression you want from that but i will always put waps way above head height and avoid working to close to them for a long time... -
this looks quite cool... i have just sorted out a friends PC, AMD K6-2 333Mhz, 392mb RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD (Upgraded from 6.4GB), ATI RAGE PRO, C-Media Audio... Installed XP and RAN very nicely... installed office still working fine... AVG Antivirus... duck in the water... tried running windows update... ran the update install... took 1 hr afterwards to tell me it needed 99 updates... after all that it worked fine APART from flash or java... friend is a facebook/youtube junkie... end result - told em to buy new PC... Going to set PC up as a black box in loft for file storage...

most have this but i don't see it as very useful... i'm more concerned about the screen on the laptop than the £40 hard disk... if your considering laptops make sure you get semi ruggedised minimum... (or opt for a Windows Mac... (a mac with windows install instead of os x) unless your going to make the parents pay a large deposit...

Definately recommend Bluesocket... expansion is literally plug and play...

so do i just copy this: for /f "tokens=1,2,3* delims=/ " %%a in ('date /t') do set date=%%a%%b%%c%%d for /f "tokens=1,2 delims=:" %%a in ('time /t') do set time=%%a%%b echo %date%,%time%,%username% >> \\server\computer$\%computername%.txt echo %date%,%time%,%computername% >> \\server\user$\%username%.txt into the logon script? (ovbiously changing the server bit to a working link?)

well ive had the laptop apart.. hence my downtime lol... i can't find the cmos battery although i'm assuming its under my keyboard... previous techy looks like he's bodged one of the screws up... completely rounded off the slot for the screwdriver plus several missing screws tried the cmospwd program... i'd just use a hammer and chisel... bit noisey but do it during the holidays and your sorted... i've got a similar task to get done with a plasma and thats what my caretaker guy said he'd do...
-
they've gone down for a few things recently scanners/printers - they're just concentrating on pcs/servers/networking....
-
yeah i think in some places they're called cash converters... my local one sells other stuff other than what people bring in to sell... but you can defo buy desk fans for under 5... tesco's and asda probably will have some soon... either that or ask family if they have any old ones you can have...
-
if you've got some tesco vouchers handy you could get some cameras from them.... the tuffcams look quite good...
-
just a quick point... i bought a fan in cash generators (9") for £4... not worth the time to mess about with soldering lol
-
PC won't startup properly fans spin but no bleeps

cheers! -
i'd just get hold of an old AT PSU and use that... bit of cable tie/shrink and jobs done... or just buy a 12" desk fan...
-
i'm going to be doing this with a couple of my old RM P3 600 PC's... great way to re use some old desktop PC's...

Acer Aspire 3650 BIOS Password Reset/Recovery
hotwired007 replied to hotwired007's topic in Hardware
any ideas where the battery is? i thought it might have been soldered onto the motherboard... i've had laptops like that before... replacement was always fun! -
hi, when i started my new job i got given an acer aspire 3560 laptops to use as my laptop... i'm being restricted by the fact i can get into bios and change some of the settings... the previous tech says he didn't put a password on it... so therefore doesn't know what it is... does anyone know how to reset the password or even know if there is a way a BIOS password could have been installed with a piece of software or something? thanks in advance
-
does it work correctly when your trying to use a not networked PC? or just OWA doesn't work on any PC not in your network?
-
not AFAIK... i've been re-installing my laptops all the time... i just tell them to use the wifi via windows config, add them to the domain and away they go...
-
we basically have 2 shortcuts to reg keys that change the proxy... at school if they forget to do it the firewall is set to only allow internet access via the proxy... they soon remember...
-
AFAIK theres very little server side changes... the laptops basically need to be told to connect to a different wireless network... basically you connect it all up and set the access points etc.. then you need to tell the management bit to connect to your AD... maybe need to do passwords etc... set up the security and go... i'd put money on it that it takes longer to install the hardware than to do the software set up...
