  1. i throught delprof wouldn't work on a windows 7 machine?
  2. redirected folder paths... in group policy... even if you force the gpupdate makes no difference - deleting the profiles off and allowing them to be recreated makes the paths work fine...
  3. as everytime a student logs on it copies their account from the server to the local machine - i've changed a whole load of settings and the PCs even after a GPupdate still wil refer to the the local account - once the account is removed they can log on again and all the settings are correct - i just didn't fancy reinstalling all the compueters again! (Well reimaging them anyway...)
  4. Ok... i've googled, i've binged and i've even yahoo'd this and come up with not a lot... What is the best way to get a computer to delete the user profiles on a machine when it restarts - ive seen the GP delete after X number of days - its configured to 1 day... there is also the advanced system settings and deleting each profile individually but on some of my machines there are 100-150 local profiles... basically i want something like delprof.exe to run after a student logs off to delete all the profiles...
  5. From my experience - you can't have both redirected folders AND a roaming profile - correct me if i'm wrong please (it would solve some of my issues... all my PCs are Win7 and redirected folders)
  6. Have just been on the H50 website and looked at the FAQs... the radiator will fit easily in the area BUT will not be able to mount a fan to it... the front panel is almost completely blocked so airflow to the radiator would be naff all... been looking to see if the rad can be attached in the area for the optical drives....
  7. have looked at the H50 quite a lt - the only bind is that the rear fan in teh case is an 80mm and the nearest 120 mount is at the front behind the HDD mounts... very tempted but it depends ojn the length of the pipes on the cooler...
  8. I'm building a PC, having a problem with getting a decent cooler to fit in the case, it has a Arctic 7 Rev 2 cooler with it BUT this will not fit in the case with the side panel fitted as there is a huge 22cm fan on the side panel... trying to decide on a decent ertically mounted fan that doesn't obstruct the RAM slots as the Arctic 7 covers the first ram too... any suggestions? The case is 175mm thick and the fan comes out about 30mm leaving 145mm for motherboard and fan... Processor: AMD Phenom X6 1055T Motherboard: ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 Case: INWIN "Griffin" GFX: Saphire 5770 Vapor-X
  9. Having a number of issues on my network atm - not sure if they are related or not but: When user logs on all thier folders redirect to \\SAN\%USERNAME%\Documents etc but in the libraries folder there are two locations: C:\Users\Public\Documents (How can i remove this?) On a number of machines the files will randomly go offline during the day but a restart will then fix this issue once a day a couple fo people will tell me that they ahve received the IP is already in use error and reboot their machines Any suggestions on what to check?
  10. i found a solution: Group Policy: Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Registry Right Click > Add Key > MACHINE\Software\SMART Technologies\ Edit Permissions > Add User Group > Set Permission to Full Control > Click OK. Login as teacher and orient any smartboard.
  11. Having some problems with my Smartbaord tools and saving any settings for staff... according to the Smartboard Tools error log it saves all the settings in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SMART Technologies\... i need to give staff write access to this key(s).... i have over 30 members of staff and want it change via GP... i can't figure out how to do it... any ideas? thanks in advance
  12. Sorry i think i confused you the Staff (AD Group) and Student (AD Group) - are both Universal Security Groups - they double up as distro groups too
  13. The way i have it setup so far is basically the computers are all in the respective OU and so are the staff and students - the GP's are set up to cover the whole of the domain. I have the Default, School, Staff and Student GPO at top level with the Student GP scope set only to Students (AD Group) and Staff scope only to Staff (AD Group). Each of the policies works for the User config part of the GP BUT none of the machine settings apply.
  14. This must be an issue in other schools? there must be a work around?
  15. Basically i want to set it up so that on my network if a mamber of staff logs onto a computer they get a password restriction policy and if a student logs onto the same machine - they get a different password policy... i have a policy called staff and a policy called students at top level in group policy... each only apply to staff or the students group in AD... works perfectly for all user configration parts of the policy... is there a loopback type thing to get it to set Machine Policy due to each user who logs on? spent hours on this and there is a rather dented section of wall near my desk...
  16. HI I have rolled out my network with adobe reader 9.3.4 installed and getting loads of problems with it now that staff no longer have administrator rights - i'm going to replace with FOXIT - i need to know how to run a script via 2008R2 GPO to uninstall the damned thing... any ideas? the magical google didn't come up with anything
  17. avoid ipads - lovely fad but not really functional in schools... PLUS have you held one for 30mins? wrist-ache is horrible... if you ahve the money to buy ipads consider decent semi rugged laptops and a decent trolley OR just consider the fact you will have to replace laptops every 2-3years if your lucky but with PCs you could get away with upto 5 years... (my opinion - after having laptops for 3 years - not going to recommened them to anyone!) then you have the whole conectivity issues... WiFi still an issue... constant unplugging of cat5 issues... scary!
  18. its a completly fresh 2008 r2 system - no profiles for any users... i've tried making them create roaming profiles, use a mandatory and had no setting - ie local profile per machine - everytime i end up with 'you have been logged on with a temporary profile'...
  19. There are now only GPs for the computer config on the default domain policy... and still only logging me in on a temporary profile with any account apart from a domain admin... any other ideas? I'll copy and paste the whole default domain GP if it helps?
  20. There is an option in the GPO on server 2008 r2 for this... you can set a pic or make them all blank... EDIT - Found it: GPO\Computer Config\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User Accounts\Apply the default user logon picture to all users. Hope this helps
  21. mine does it on every computer conected on the domain... however manytimes i've logged on and off again... i'm wondering if i've set someting in the GP - but i can't think what i might/might not have done... cheers
  22. internally use DNS... you'll need to set the computers to point at the IP address everytime you type in the server name - i'm guessing this is externally? that might need some extra work with domain records...
  23. Hi i have just installed my new domain and having issues with my accounts - none other than my admin accounts will log onto any of my freshly installed domain added PC's... they all come up with "You have been loaded with a temporary profile" any clues as to what i have missed? thanks
  24. Ok - so basically the front screen - tells me that it cant login because the drive is full - i'm assuming that deleting the /var/log/nms.log may help - how do you see the file attributes from the comand line?
  25. Hi Guys I've just had to reboot one of my old SAN units as it needed moving - it now will no longer load as it comes up with an error - no space on disk - i'm assuming that there was an error that has filled up the hard disk with error messages - (time difference) error message. Any ideas how i can use the root access to delete the offending log file and get it back up and running? Extremely frustrating as i'm getting ready to decomission them as the primary san and reuse it as backup server - i only need to extract my file server VM from it... Thanks
