We've added the ForceShellExecute registry value to all machines and it's resolved the issue. Does appear to be an office link pre-fetching User-Agent issue. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet] "ForceShellExecute"=dword:00000001

Yeah, we're getting it. I can rotate external IPs which puts it off for 10-15 minutes but then it's back. Probably a google issue rather than an 'us' issue. If you log in to a google account and then do a search you don't have to go through the never ending game of finding street signs and roads; it just allows you to tick the box. I'm hoping whatever it is is resolved over the weekend and hoping people can make it through today. They're mostly just showing DVDs! Chris

Strange, never had a single problem with it. The only issues we have are students forgetting their passwords and students not understanding the question so thinking the test's broken!

Assuming you're using the PSIOnline system, their System Requirements page has all the software downloads you need https://ecdluk.psionline.com/phoenix/s/login/sysreq.do If you're using IE, you need the 'PSI In-application Plugin' If you're using Chrome, you can use the 'PSI In-application Extension for Chrome' We use IE as it's easier to GPO the required settings.

Looks like the patch does re-install the Autumn Release (as the old one did). The new patch is a newer version number than the withdrawn one.

I think so. It's got the same release date as the old one that got withdrawn. Will deploy tonight and see what happens!

On our laptops for exams, we've installed only word and not installed any of the proofing tools (removed them in the installation setup).

We run also ECDL. Ofter 4 rooms at a time. We check log all the machines on beforehand. Check the keyboards and mouses are working. Then one member of staff hangs around per 'area' just in case anything *technical* happens. Each room has an actual exam invigilator on top of that. Saying that, every IT 'issue' we've had so far has been students not being able to remember their password (not our problem) or students not being able to understand what the question is asking and therefore thinking the computer's broken.

From what I recall, that's a registry job. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}\ShellFolder Changing 'Attributes' to b0940064 should hide the network option from explorer. Hope that's what you're after.

The black screen before Applying Preferences is when the PC applies active setup settings. Logins for us used to take 4-5 minutes but after we removed all the active setups from the PC's registry it reduced to <30 seconds. HKLM\software\microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\ (if I recall) in the registry. Change the StubPaths to blank.
