Yes I think if you want to effectively create threads of comments then forum software would probably be the best option.
-
Can you explain more about what you mean by adding a comment please?

Explain Everything works well for this (app available for Android and ios) if you have a way to mirror the tablet to the screen. I do this with a Chromecast plugged into the projector and use the Cast app on my Android tablet to mirror the screen. Airplay mirroring should do the same to an Apple TV or software like reflector on the PC

Thanks Tech monkey. The RSS aspect is something that I haven't fully developed yet as we don't have any use for it at the moment. I will take note of this when I do.

Thanks, we are just about to purchase 64 (2 class sets) chromebooks. We are going for the 2015 Dell chromebook 11 with 4gb ram.

Hi Bev, I'm pleased that you have things up and running well and it's nice to hear positive feedback from your school. Thank you for the update. Tim

If you have a Web page in an xibo region it should show the top left corner of page by default. Just make sure that your gif is the correct size in the web page for your region.

You should be able to pick them up in a feed reader if you add the address of the feed page. I have successfully subscribed to your feed above in feedly. The feeds aspect is the part of the system that I haven't worked on as much as I would like yet.

Great to hear that you have it up and running. What customising are you planning? I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Can you try getting it working without the password feature. Remove the line from the very top of each page's php file.

Smart Interactive Projector 7 seconds for freeze mode?
mrdolan replied to fiza's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
That's really useful to know. I'll try it out on my projector on Monday. The 7 second wait is annoying. -
I would second this suggestion. I have one and it works well for this as well as as a portable April.

If you do go for a cheap Web hosting package (which is what we're doing as it allows easy editing etc remotely) make sure that they support the php file info plugin, which xibo server 1.6 needs to run. We had a problem with a web host who refused to install it and suggested that we switch to a vps (at some much larger cost ), which would be overkill for xibo.

I use Evernote and I think the Android client is much better than the iPhone client and has improved a lot recently. I think they have different development teams for each platform, so there is often a difference in design and function between the apps.

Have you placed the password.php file somewhere on the server (where is it?) Have you added the location in the config.php file?
-
Yes, sorry I do tend to write in more detail than is probably necessary. I also know that I have found detail to be helpful when trying to get some stuff working in the past, so it's there is anyone needs it. The direct link is now in the first post.

I have now packaged my Messages System for others to try and have written an overview and some instructions. The details are in a new thread to make it a bit easier for people to find and so as to not distract from the other things in this thread. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/web-development/144188-student-messages-bulletin-system.html Sorry it has taken a while.

I have written a simple web based student Messages / Bulletin System (in PHP) for use by school staff to post messages that can then be viewed by or shown to students. I have previously mentioned this in this thread. Following a few requests I have now packaged it up for others to use and have created this thread for any feedback or discussion (I hope it's in the correct place). I am not going to write lots about it here as all the details can be found at: mrdolan.org/messages-system You can also see a demo and read the end user instructions. Or download directly I hope someone finds it useful. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I have been busy this week, I will try to make it available this weekend.

Hi, Are there any secondary schools (maybe in the Midlands) who are using Chromebooks, either class sets or 1:1 who would be able to welcome a couple of visitors please? We are looking at possibly getting some Chromebooks as shared devices and would appreciate the opportunity to see how they are being used elsewhere. We are also considering LearnPads, but are leaning towards something with a keyboard (and still quick booting) hence the interest in Chromebooks. I am also concerned about the long term future of flash on LearnPads now that Google has removed the ability to run it on Android. Thanks in advance.

garethedmondson I have Pm'd you the admin login details. There is not much in admin at the moment. You can see all the messages in the database, change the colours of the Year groups and change the staff password (but that is disabled in the demo)
-
Ok, I'll see what I can do, although it will be a few days until I have time.
-
Do you use Google Apps? You could probably use Google sites for most of what you want.

If people are interested I can put together a download and some instructions for setting it up (which is quite easy)

Yes you can add messages on the demo as well as edit them via the recent messages page. The way we run it is that the students are shown the bulletin by their tutor each morning. There are rss feeds for each year group and each of our display screens (which we will show using xibo when we have it set up shortly) It could be set so that a password is required only for adding and editing messages, then the students could be given access to the home page and the year group bulletins. Depending on the content of the messages that might work best if it was hosted internally rather than available openly online.
