  1. This sounds useful then the staff can do it. Do you do this in AD or somewhere else?
  2. Ah I see, you mean minimum time to change password. That sounds quite useful as a start.
  3. How does this work then? How can i install the basic AD user tool?
  4. I am based in the ICT suite so they don't need to leave the room unless they were logging on elsewhere. I agree with what you are saying about stopping ink sticking to paper etc.
  5. How do you mean minimum age requirement?
  6. They have an ICT lesson once a week, they may logon at other times such as lunchtime computer club, booster sessions etc. but if they change their password often, ie; best friend's name (which can change daily!) its no wonder they forget it, or forget how to spell it!
  7. :(Believe me its not! Person in charge of pastoral duties does not sort out forgotten passwords, its a technician problem. Surely I am not the only one with this issue of forgotten passwords.
  8. Its not about sharing passwords, its about being able to have their own password which I disabled a couple of years ago as it gave me so much hassle. The problem as you know with children having their own passwords and changing them often is that I am the one who has to sort it out when they have forgotten it. Its not like when they are online and have an automated password recovery option to press!
  9. Thanks, you raise some good points there. I hope I can convince our Deputy Head of this.
  10. Well its just not good is it. some kids will fall out with someone and change their own password to *insertinapropriatewordhere* or something. It will then become know to a few and create problems.
  11. Hi Does anyone know how to stop students using inappropriate words for passwords? I have just started allowing students to change their passwords by changing the settings in GPO to allow the option on Alt+Ctrl+Del but can't find any settings for how to block words. We use Netcare Solution Suite 1.0.36 on Server 2012.
  12. I want to start logging faulty equipment and repair work for IT stuff. I used to use an access database that someone created for me but it got deleted way back. Does anyone have either a ready made one that I could nick or a freeware software option they could recommend? Thanks.
  13. I modified the shortcut for ejay to allow full permissions for all users. Works ok for me.
  14. Thanks for your help guys, I have a few options to try now.
  15. What do you guys use to switch of rooms full of PCs via the server? We used to use Netcare 3 as our management system which allowed me to select PCs and power them down or re-boot them. I could also schedule a time for all PCs to close down after I had gone home. The latest edition of Netcare doesn't work with regards to this. I have tried LanShutDown but that doesn't really work. You would think Server 2012 would have something built in to deal with such a common task. Any thoughts?
  16. Hi, yes since my last post I have managed to extract the MSI out of the EXE file. Thanks for your help everyone.
  17. Hi Thats great, thanks for your help.
  18. Does anyone know how to roll out software to networked computers using Group Policies if the software doesn't contain an MSI file? Is it possible to create an MSI or do I have to buy software to do this?
