All, thanks. Yes, both have internet so we could VPN them both and host the sync server at one of the sites. Longer term plan was to bring them to a single AD which would need them to be linked. I guess, I was wondering if this new Azure Cloud Sync was being used by anyone yet?

Slight quandary here ... We have a single M365 tenant but have both our Primary and Secondary schools using it. Both are on different sites with no connectivity between the two and both have different Active Directory domains. So Azure AD connect is not supported with two separate on-prem AD which do not have any connectivity. But there is something called Azure AD Cloud Sync, which does support the above scenario. So has anyone used this? This is a pre-cursor to moving home drives to OneDrive for all our users. Without this I'm thinking we will have separate credentials for on-prem AD and M365, so if we do move home drives to OneDrive there's a potential users won't log in to OneDrive leaving files locally on their PC ... Potentially data loss if the PC goes 'pop'? Do people specify where they keep OneDrive files locally? Can these even be moved to a network location i.e. server share? Or use files on demand? I think there's two questions above, one about cloud sync and then the second whether people are using OneDrive without sync'ing their on-prem and M365 accounts. Thanks again! Any advice?

Ah ok, that makes sense. So the option after logging in and then going to settings, password, to change their password in M365 will no longer work. Thanks

Thanks for that. Sorry might not be making myself clear, apologies. So if I implement AD Connect, and a user changes their password locally on-prem from their workstation, it will change in our on-prem AD. That will then sync up to M365. So that's fine. In the scenario, where they change their M365 password in the cloud, will that sync back to on-prem AD or not? I think that's my question i.e. will a password change on either on-prem or AD work fine without having to purchase P1 licences. I'm not looking to implement self-service password reset straight away at the moment. Thanks again.

Hey all, So I'm just about to start working on moving data to the cloud i.e. move user home drives to OneDrive and shared folders to SharePoint. For this I think we'll need to sync the on prem AD passwords with their M365 accounts, which we can do using the AD connect tool. My question is, will we need to purchase the P1 licences so that if users change their password in the cloud it will 'sync back' to our on prem AD? Otherwise, they'll be out of sync? I assume if they change their passwords on prem it will sync back to the cloud. Thanks

Hi, Our nursery is looking at buying a tabletop tablet. Basically a big tablet that sits in a table. The person in charge has got a reseller (midshire.co.uk) coming in to show us some options like: Hero Sharp Tables Tiny Tablet Genie Tablet Never heard of any of them, so wondered if others did. Hi, Just got a new photocopier and the supplier wants us to install PrintAudit software. It seems this software will ping out IPs and search for print devices. Once found it will use SNMP to pull the data back and then send on to their website. Anyone use this software as I don't fancy them going through the whole network. Hi, Somehow I've managed to acquire a whole load of these nComputing units. Any suggestions on what to do with them? I was about to build some Raspberry Pi's as display PCs. Could I make these into display units by putting a lite Linux distro on them? Any other ideas before I bin them? Thanks

We're looking at kidblog.org, simply because it allows teachers to approve content, comment etc before it gets posted out to the real world. Cost is something like $44 per year. There are some other free stuff out there, but not with the approval stuff that we think we probably need? Any other suggestions please? Thanks

Sorry just re-read my original post. Unfiltered access would only be for teachers (or a small subset of teachers who definitely needed it) and not all the school. Apologies if that wasn't clear from the original post.

Thanks I'm pretty sure they understand that - Ofsted has recently been round and grilled us a lot on it. The request is coming from only a small number and I think it's a case of them seeing what the response is. Their take is that it's only for teachers and will be rigourously protected ... hmmmm! I spoke to a teacher recently at secondary and they have filtered access BUT he mentioned they have another icon that allows unfiltered access. Everything will still be logged etc so we and teachers will know if we get dodgy sites appearing. Thanks for the post, keep your opinions coming.

Do any of you allow unrestricted Internet access for teachers? Currently we filter teachers' access but have been asked to provide unrestricted access as they are getting too many blocked sites which they say is affecting their teaching. At the moment it's just an ask and needs to go through the request process and SLT etc before it's done but we'll get asked for our opinion. It would be handy to quote what other schools do. So, would be grateful if there are schools that do this (and don't). It's a Primary school but might get requested by secondary if they get wind of it. Thanks
