  1. Hello, I have recently deployed new laptops to all staff members at one of my schools, As these are going home too I have enabled offline files (for the first time) I have used a GPO to enable offline files and administratively assign the folders to use offline. I have set it at \\server\users\%USERNAME% However... it isn't just syncing their own home folder but everyone elses in the users folder! This means that if a laptop goes walkies then there is all staff documents on each laptop! The users do not have a home assigned under the account tab on AD but use a my documents re-direction. Any help appreciated! Thanks
  2. Just a quick update with the Zip files. I've downloaded 'The Unarchiver' and that will unzip fine. it seems to be an issue with apples 'Archive Utility' over network I suppose?
  3. Hello, I have 30 iMacs linked to a mac mini server and Windows Server 2012 Active Directory. They log in with their AD accounts and all seems ok. We had some trouble with permissions originally but these are now resolved. When a user logs on they can't open the following... iMovie: Appears to open but no actual window appears, the title bar changes at the top but nothing works.. Logged in using only Active Directory, I removed the link to our mac server so it does not get any management from the mac server, just Active Directory with Home Profile location. Created a brand new share on the AD server, created a new user and set their home folder to this location Created a user on the macserver Open Directory and their home folder on the mac server Tried upgrading one to Yosemite Tried an older mac model without our image build on I have literally tried everything... They are iMacs running OSX v10.9.4 Any help at all will be massively appreciated. I'm banging my head against a wall here, this has been going on for months Thanks
  4. Connected and it seems to just mount a 5GB and 1GB partition, the 5GB appears to be the Buffalo linux data that must run in the station and the 1GB is the swap. It sees the other 4 drives as RAID 1 though and will not mount for some reason here... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/raid.png
  5. Brill, yeah I've tested each disk to check and all are showing up ok and all paritions readable! I think I'll connect them up to my machine later (ubuntu) and give it a whirl
  6. Hello all! At a school I support we have had a Buffalo TeraStation fail. Exact model is TS-XE4.0TL/R5. It currently runs 4x 1TB drives in RAID5. When I first attended site I used an Ubuntu live CD and a drive dock to check the SMART status of each drive. On the day all the drives were fine except drive 3 was showing as 1 big unknown partition! I removed the third drive and rebooted the station, hoping it would attempt to rebuild the array but the station seemed to boot normal. Now this is the weird thing, the station will sometimes boot giving off loads of errors and sometimes fine. I have a suspicion that the firmware is corrupt on the station. I downloaded the latest firmware from Buffalo's website but the update software provided will not connect to the station, neither will trying to connect to it via its IP address in a web browser! Seems pretty corrupted to me! Now the main priority is data recovery, There is a lot of data on this that they wish to recover! I have the station with me and have ran a check again using Disk Utility on Ubuntu on my PC at home. This time it is showing the correct partitions on drive 3 and all disks healthy too! I've attached photos of the station booting up and its various messages and some from Disk Utility of each drive. On boot the station points out it is missing an init file on drives 1,2 & 3. (Missed taking the photograph on 2, only caught 1 & 3!) and shows the message HD Unkown? My question is what are the best ways to recover data? Disk utility (Ubuntu) gives me an option to Go To Array when I connect HD01. Will this rebuild the array and allow me to access the data? (Providing I connect ALL drives of course) does anyone know? Or are there any good recommended RAID recovery programs available? Surely as ALL the drives are readable and healthy there is a way? Any help is massively appreciated thanks! HD01... HD02... HD03... HD04... Booting up... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT1.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT2.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT3.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT4.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT5.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT6.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT7.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT8.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2066107/sudleystation/BOOT9.jpg
  7. Wow, quick replies! Quiet day for a lot today? Thanks, I'll pass all this on and see which is best, We have also looked at instant print cameras (polaroid type) Anybody got any experience with them?
  8. I have had a little google and cannot seem to find much, The school are looking to put some wifi printers in class and buy about 4 or 5 good cameras. They have asked if they could get a camera that has wifi so that they can just print straight from the camera. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks!
  9. I had an issue like this recently, I pulled the drive out, connected to another PC, backed up all user files and re-installed OS that worked
  10. I'm 23 and drive a 1998 Toyota Corolla, pay about £1300 a year to insure. I owned a 1995 Honda CBR600F last year (Motorbike) and paid about £290 for the year! Madness I don't think you should do a 1 day driving test, I think it should be an assessment over a period of time. Everyone has good days, everyone has bad days.
  11. I loved SA! Still play it to this day, all be it a multiplayer mod called Multi Theft Auto! If they release GTA5 for PC (under linux) I'll be getting! :-D
  12. One site I visit has used equitrac, it is through BM printing I believe. It links to active directory and you can give everyone a 4 digit pin to release their print jobs. It does track cost but I'm not sure how well. I've heard a lot of good things about Papercut though! Need to try it myself!
  13. I hate IE...
  14. My personal PC which is a Quad Core Q6600 with 4GB of DDR2RAM still runs like new!! Only had 1 drive start to slow it down. I think the Intel i series will last a while!
  15. Files not encrypted... It's a really strange one. I'll try a few more fixes, maybe the auditing and get back!
  16. No network port in the room, just let windows install again and this time there were 3 devices listed in the hardware install box, all installed fine apparently but when I clicked test print it brought up a yellow warning triangle ad even windows cannot diagnose Need to try another machine connected to it
  17. It does have a network port but it has always been connected via USB, so I've been told!
  18. And it has just failed installing the second part.... Hmmm
  19. Hummm.... It seems to detect it as two printers sometimes... This is how it is installing if I let Windows do its thing
  20. Hello all! I'm trying to be more active on this forum, but so far this is my second question and I've not really helped anybody else, so I apologise and promise I am trawling these forums in search of posts I can help with! Right, The site manager here has a Toshiba satellite pro laptop and an old(ish) HP LaserJet 1320n... Every so often in devices and printers it shows the printer as having an error but also shows an unknown device below it. I tried removing the device and ALL traces of any drivers, the last fix seemed to work, or so I thought! It currently uses UPD PCL 5 driver. I have been told that it is not working again, when I came in the laptop was not on and the USB to the printer unplugged, when I turned the laptop on and connected the printer it started printing a document that had clearly been sent at another time, it is now saying the device is ok but I can guarantee that it is going to go mad again later! Is this a driver issue? should I try an even older one? Any suggestions welcome! Thanks all!
  21. We have a schoolshare drive here, it is for children and staff to access, share & save everything. Now for some reason when a student saves a file no one can open it up. An example error is PowerPoint was unable to open or save this document. Please ensure that you have access privileges to read or write the document and that it is not encrypted Now, I have checked all permissions and set 'Everyone' full permissions and I have added our staff_grp and student_grp with full permissions too. The only way I have found to fix this is if I manually select a random document and change the owner from the student that has saved it to staff_grp!? I can't figure out what is going on It seems to be related to when children are saving their files, but the permissions on the files are fine Thanks!
  22. +1 Its already in the OS and is a massively simple version of word! :-)
  23. Have you ran any updates on the mac? newer version of iTunes?
