Hi, EWP never keep the document file open permanently. On open: open the file and read the contents then close the file, disposing of it in memory. On save: open the file and save all the counts to it then close it, disposing of it it memory. But I will do my own testing this weekend to see what happens. But ours once an exam is finished should always close down EWP once done; this should be a necessary instruction given to each pupil so that the invigilators or exam officer don’t have to keep doing it for them ready for the next exam to start.

Hi all, Bit of a long shot but has anyone successfully exported there data out of RS Admissions and imported it into Sims Admissions? If so, how? And timeframe?

Just a quick update folks, I've got two school currently testing out a new version that may finally solve issues when EWP may lockup when trying to save a file, autosave a file, auto backup a file, open a file, export a file.... If the connection to the network drive you point EWP to becomes unstable or loses connection. A major overhaul of the ‘Default Paths’ for saving, exporting, opening, backups, where in all instances of a dropped network connection or unstable USB drive set to any of these paths would result in a lock-up of the main EWP GUI for a good few minutes while waiting for the standard Windows API to timeout. To address this, each time a call is made to save, export, open or backup, each instance will now check if the path exists before proceeding for a maximum of 5 seconds, if after this timeout has passed and the result is path not found, EWP will automatically failover to the local users temp folder. Each subsequent call to a save, export, open or backup will try tore-establish a connection to the default path and revert back or continue in the temporary failover path. What will happen, even though the timeout is 5 seconds, is the task will run in the background, so as not to interfere with the main GUI, therefore EWP will halt for a split second in real terms before switching over the file to a new temporary path. This new verison will be available around the 1st March, ready in time for the summer exams!!

Can you install/run the MSI manually on a PC? And does it install ok?

Via GPO yes it should, but use the MSI with no Icons as most have done it. If it doesn’t work, there should be an event log as to why on each client PC.

These files need to be separated so the backup/recovery files are now saved with a file extension of .ExamTextBackup · FIXED: ConfigEditorGUI when selecting an option to edit that uses the trackbar to slide a value, still allowed you to type in a value into the text box. The trackbar should control the textbox value and should not be controlled by the user typing into the textbox for stability reasons and removing the possibility or undesired results. · ADDED: ConfigEditorGUI now allows you select each option using the up/down arrows keys, once clicked on an option to start with. Having only Disable_Ribbon_Btn_PreviousHistory set to 1 will not stop you being able to restore from the splats screen, therefore it a long standing issue I need to address for the next build.

By default, only the the last 60mins worth of backups, from the time EWP is launched, are available to the user to restore from. All backups will also stay on the computer for life unless you set a config option to auto delete backups older than 24 hours.

I think just using the Disable_Ribbon_Btn_PreviousHistory should do the trick. But I will check if the restore option still appears on the splash screen or not

This is also an option to point the save and backup location to the exact same network location.

Thanks for the query, The default backup path was only really built for local backups because of the need to be visible to the single computer. Something I’ve not really thought about but longer term I could provide an option to disable restoring from the EWP GUI. Easily done. I will have a think….

I’ve taken a look at the code and it seems that TextControl do not store the WMF metafile copy of images in RTF files, therefore I can’t do much about it sorry.

It is the behaviour yes, and biggest issue is that I would love to use a container format like docx etc, but it’s all down to the restrictions with the free components I use. But as always I will see what I can do :-)

Yep the key bits are the EXE and Assemblies folder.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback, I’ll take a look into this, but at the moment all I can say is that this is expected behaviour for RTF formats as they will store the image in bitmap format, hence the larger file size. Therefore a limitation I cannot get past unless I could link to the file but that would mean the image files would always need to follow the EWP file, therefore not really an option. The dialog box I will look into if it’s a built in call to the TextControl component then again I’m limited but I need to take a look to see if there is any wiggle room to play about with this. This is a strange one and may just be a one off especially if other laptops are ok. It’s one of those things difficult to diagnose if you can’t replicate it.

I only have the narrator built-in to EWP which is similar to an immersive reader. This is about as good as it gets without paying mega bucks for a third party one. Given that EWP will always be free, I can’t see it happening anytime soon unless an investor comes along [emoji16]
