I found it much easier to just add "FileName" from "View", "Choose Details" to the top level folder and then "Apply to Folders" from "Tools", "Folder Options" and "View". Less than a minute to do and, for me anyway, 100% effective."

Word from Smoothwall is to add apple.com/library/test to the list of sites that do not require authentication. Ensure that unauthenticated IPs are included in this rule. Trying now, will let you know

Davit you are 100% correct. I am admittedly not an Apple fan, the complete opposite in fact. Years of waiting for SP1 before deploying any Windows product should have been experience enough for me not to have done this. At least it is more ammunition when I next go apple bashing ;-)

I would hangfire on upgrading anything to IOS6. Bought an ipad3, upgraded to 6, no wifi on school network since but works fine at home. Reading seems to indicate that it tries to connect to http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.htm when you connect to any wireless network. As we are using Smoothwall SSL login (captive portal if you will) the device was not getting to the success site and therefore dropped the connection. Exempting this site from authentication doesn't appear to work however even though I have proven with other devices authentication is now not required. How apple can push this stuff on us when there are thousands of education establishments, coffee shops, airport lounges etc etc where their device will now not work is a mystery. When is the Surface released?

Hi Craig, I've just done exactly the same sort of thing this last week. However, my 2003 TS works fine. I did have various issues whilst implementing this, mostly as I had migrated from a 2003 exch server, but these all seamed to be concerned with ensuring that everything was updated (i.e. address list, contacts etc) The only other thing that caused a bit of an issue was having Outlook running with cached mode enabled as my address books didn't update with the new lists. Hope that helps in some way.

The first rule of copier and printer contracts is, Do not sign a contract with Danwood. The second rule is DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH DANWOOD! Sorry, had to get that one in. Without seeing the contract it's really hard to say. However, if it's just an Equipment Service Agreement then you should only need to give 30 days notice to get out of it. Danwood being Danwood though, they probably have a clause in there somewhere so that this isn't so easy. If you can't get out of it and they still insist on billing you on a cost per print basis then, if they are a few years old, I would get new printers and just store the two under contract. The theory being that if they are not in use, you can't be billed cost per print. One thing to be careful of is Danwood's minimal billing which may mean that, even if not in use, you have to pay them a minimum of prints.

Curious, I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago but this on one of my Terminal Server suites. In the end I added a GPO Computer Configuration Policies Administrator Templates System/Logon "Always wait for Network at computer start up and log in" Enabled Cured the issue and maybe worth a try. I am still a little confused at to why I started to get this problem but,hey ho, it's working now.

ESS Desktop EDU Enterprise all the way. M/S certainly look to have their game sorted out at last, it's just a shame some re sellers still struggle. Our licensing costs drop dramatically whilst giving us much more, SCCM and Forefront being just two of them (save on your AV bill as well right there). I really can't understand why anyone would buy outright but there must be a reason that just doesn't ever raise it's head here. Windows O/S and Office upgrades all free, I dare not even start to work out how much that would cost us. Even adding on Server 2008 STD installation comes out at approx £25 per year, lets say it lasts 5 years before any upgrade that's £125, you just can't buy outright for that sort of money. Sure you then have to start paying the money towards the next O/S but by then you'd be buying it outright again anyway. You could say something similar for a SQL or Multipoint licence. Just make sure you work out your FTE correctly, as pointed out you don't add staff that are not PC users so that's cleaners, grounds and kitchen staff out of the picture straight away. At least get a couple of quotes and do some sums.

As I've mentioned before, this isn't about the engineers, though I know for FACT that Danwood engineers attend calls on equipment they are not even trained on. I even have knowledge of Danwood "allegedly" forging a manufacturer's training certificate so let's not even go there. However, I am amazed you are putting the contract at the door of your customers. Danwood wrote the evergreen contract not the customer, they are the ones tying customers up for life.

Hi Machman, I am not familiar with Papercut so not sure if it has it's own remote access software installed with it. I would think it's not beyond the realms of possibility. As Lordasb said, I'd be checking for various installations of remote access software and having a read up on exactly what is parcelled with Papercut. I'll make some calls when I get five minutes and see what I can find out.

Sorry to drag this up again but it was discussed at yesterdays conference so I'll add my 2 cents worth. As an ex-Danwood engineer of 7 years my own personal opinion of them is to stay well clear. They have some good engineers but I would not be happy with contract small print. Evergreen, Network Support contracts and (imho) sub-standard non-OEM consumables being just a few items to avoid. If I was a customer, I would be checking my contract and invoices.

Spiceworks can be a little tricky to set up, but I have found it invaluable since doing so. As you mentioned, the HelpDesk feature is excellent, if you can get staff to use it.

For those interested, WinTPC is now available from the connect website. If you don't know already, it's the updated version (W7) of Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs via SA. Even though it's called Windows for Thin PCs, I'm a little confused as to when a thin PC suddenly required a 16Gb HDD (recommended). Indeed, it requires a minimum of a 3Gb HDD just to get the thing installed. Am I missing something here?

I have to say Chris, I am with you here. Whether it me MW2, Black Ops, MOH, the perks system and kill streak rewards just spoil the game. I want to go back to a game were it's just me and my weapon of choice

I'm assuming you're all console users. The PC version has screen lag the likes of which even God has never seen. Another crap Port that has been rushed to meet the release date instead of getting it right.

I'm pretty certain I read that somewhere when looking into DPM 2010. Still not solved the exchange issue BTW. I found an article that said to install exchange 2007 x64 management tools and use the eseutil and ese.dll from that but have had a hellish time trying to get a copy that doesn't download corrupted. Why the installation can't just ask you what version of Exchange you are using and then install the correct versions of the files is beyond me. It's the only downpoint of the whole experience so far.

Too good to be true, as has been mentioned. Easy to install and configure and very cheap under the schools agreement. Saved me shelling out 1,000's on the Symantec solution. Having an issue with Exchange 2003 though. Replica is constantly inconsistant despite following numerous advice to resolve. Maybe it's time I upgraded. I still have time this summer I guess unless anyone has the "no BS" solution as the old "copy eseutil.exe and ese.dll" thing just doesn;t work.

A much better explanation from SteveLaw there. As said, you do need a CAL for a network printer.
