OK so today I decided to wipe the laptop trolley completely and start again, I have got XP SP3 back on my master laptop but have noticed that the Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is taking its time loading and thus slowing down the response of the laptop. Is there anyway of forcing the wireless to connect quicker ?? I have just rebooted and its taken around a minute for the windows wireless to kick in and let me on the network

Thanks for that Ninjabeaver, I had a read through and indeed the xp clients do hang for a long time at the loading you personel setting page, I will try changing the key in the morning and see what happens.

Well it looks like Ruckus will be going back as it would appear its not for our school as this was the response I got from NetCtrl; Whilst I appreciate that the laptops need replacing my head is not so keen due to us going academy very soon and is not willing to spen on the wireless either unless its proven to work, although Ruckus has done well with the hand held devices and newer laptops it would appear its not enough to justify the cost if the laptop trolley can't run from it.

Thank Guys, I am looking at one of the offending laptops right now, they are old but do have a 1GB of Ram in them so I am going to try and upgrade them to W7 and see what happens. I went round all the classrooms first thing this morning and even though I had disconnected the old units someone decided to plug half of them back in . We are not using roaming profiles so its not trying to copy that accross but as for the AV as I said on another thread we use Sophos and it has quite a large footprint. Will have a play today and update with any info later.....

Well guys my eagerly awaited Ruckus evaluation equipment arrived late last week consisting of ZD1100, 2* 7363 AP's and a 7982 AP. I configured the zone director which seemed to go pretty easy to be honest and I was quite pleased with how smooth it went, over Friday and yesterday the ipods and ipads were tested on the Ruckus system and seemed to perform very well, then yesterday afternoon several teachers (using Dell Latitude E5530 Laptops) used the AP's whilst on there PPA time which also seemed to go well. Today was another story however, the laptop trolley cam out for the first time which consists of 30 five year old Dell Lattitude D531 Laptops running at 2.4 ghz over wireless G, the class teach took 25 of them out and I was quite confident all would go well until after 15 mins and still the laptops were struggling to log on to the network. By the end of the lesson approx 15 of the 25 had managed to get on the network so it was viewed as being a complete disaster and no better than the cheap and nasty EnGenius solution the school already has. Even though these are old laptops running at 2.4Ghz I would have expected a system like Ruckus to be able to handle them easily. The AP that was being used was a 7363 that was located in the classroom with the laptops so nothing was blocking the signal, at times the laptops were reporting connections of between 11 & 18 mbps which was very dissapointing. Is there anything I could have missed in the configuration that can improve the performance ??? I really want this to work but at the moment can see it being sent back and the school not bothering with upgrading the wireless.

I am lead to beleive that Apple have a purchase plan to allow school staff to purchase apple devices i.e. ipads, ipods etc interest free over 1,2 or 3 years. Has anybody done this and possibly give me some information on how to set the agreement up. Cheers in advance, Stan.

Hi Rob, I havn't een told a lot at the moment to be honest, I was given a list of server firewall ports that need looking at such as port 80, 777, and a couple of others then I was told by the SBM that they had been in touch and port 25 would need to be open on the external firewall for SMTP relay. As we currently use google apps for education for our email system I was told another account outside this domain would have to be created to facilitate the SMTP relay.

Thanks for the reply, at the moment I don't have all the info but am led to beleive that it will be from outside to inside as the portal runs via IIS, The clients are assigned DHCP and do not have statics at the moment but obviously the server does have a static IP, I do have a login for the ASA and we are not runing an SMTP Server it will simply be a school email running an SMTP relay.

Good Morning Everyone, We are having a new financial system installed in the next 10 days they require port 25 opening on the firewall for an SMTP relay to the web portal. I have never had to do anything to the firewall since its been in so does anyone have any web sites or advice on opening the port up via the Firewalls ASDM ??? Cheers Stan.

Hi Everyone, I ordered some licences on Monday for the following; 1* Microsoft Windows Server 2012 2* Microsoft SQL 2012 Server Standard Core 1* Microsoft Windows Server 2012 CAL 1* Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Media I received the media and invoice today but the media has written on it that it requires a key, were do I get this from ??? I have emailed the licence company but they have not replied yet. Is it a case of registering with Microsoft so they can confirm I have purchased the licence and then they send me the key ??? They also told me that I dont need a key for SQL 2012 ???

Can you bypass the vga cables and connect the laptop directly to the projector ???

Hi Guys, Please help me out here, my headteacher spoke to a chap at the Bett show this year who said he was selling Samsung and Panasonic 65" touchscreens for around £1300 each, they did scan the heads badge while he was there but sadly it looks like the head has deleted any emails they may have sent him. Morning Everyone, Just a quick one if you don't mind please, I am trying to export the suppliers list from FMS to Excel 2010, when the SBM does the export it carries through the data on the first tab fine but does not include any of the info such as VAT numbers and BACS information etc, is there anyway to do this as we need the info to import into PSF. Good Morning Everyone, a little help please as I have not used VM before at any level, I have downloaded VMWare Server 2.0.2 and setup a Windows 2008 R2 server withe basic roles i.e. DNS\DHCP\AD\File Services it all runs fine with no issues. I then setup a Windows XP Client and a Windows 2008 R2 Member Server which will be used to run SQL 2012, both the client and SQL Server have connected to the domain fine and picked up a dhcp address, but neither can connect to the internet. I have tried the internet on the DC and its fine, I am playing with this at home at thee moment I might add and not at school so am currently playing with the following IP details on the DC; IP Address :- 192.168.0.10 Subnet :- 255.255.255.0 Gateway :- 192.168.0.1 (this is my Virgin Media Router) DNS :- 192.168.0.1 DNS is listening on :- 192.168.0.10 forwarders :- 194.168.4.100 & 194.168.8.100 which it has resolved Am I missing something as to why the clients cant connect to the internet, both my xp client and SQL Server are showing up in DNS, DHCP and AD ??? Why just make do though at a cost of less than £10K for a Ruckus controller and 25 ap's thats enough for one in each classroom and still a couple to scatter elsewhere its false economy in my opinion not to put one in each classroom at that price.

Hi Everyone, I have been asked to look into google apps as that is who we have set our new email system up with, I can see when I manage my domain that I can report on users etc... is ther anyay I can see the content of the emails that someone has sent as in the report it only comes up with a unique ID and not the actual email itself. This is not me being nosey I might add it has been requested by the head and all staff have signed a policy to say that these can be investigated. Cheers Stan.
