Just give them time If nothing's shown up in a couple of days time (leave the machines on) then worry about it.
-
Yes. (KMS key, KMS server..) Take official advice from Technet. It's probably an acceptable way of doing it, but this is MDL we're talking about
-
Hmm, is the release date for 2k8R2 the same as for 7?
-
Hmm. Well it always used to be the case, maybe the arrangement changed with Vista/Sony. I don't know.
-
Or they're fussy about who their friends are.
-
The way to tell is to see if it has 'Sony' on the proof. If it has, you need Sony media.
-
If it requires an invitation then it's not generally accessible. That's not beta testing, just exclusive.
-
Probably not - so-called 'gold' partners like Sony get to create their own serials and labels, but they are locked to their own media and the machine model. Of course, if you can get hold of someone else's CD from the same gold set, you're ok. As to copying discs but not keys, I am not a copyright lawyer, but I'd have hoped the 'do not make copies of this disc' stamped on them would be a clue.
-
No, it's illegal. But in any case, you need the original Sony disks because they are pre-activated and hardware-locked.

Well, what's on the other end of this broken fibre?

[centos] Ownership struggle. (Poised as the end(?) of CentOS)

It won't be the end of the project, just the end of how we refer to it. The remaining maintainers will just fork away, which in practice means nothing changes except that they actually have money. -

Yeh, we're clearly too much of an enigma for the rest of the interwebs to have understood yet -
Yes, I didn't make that very clear. I'm taking a long-term view, sorry

It's only my 2p, but I think you could do a lot better than schools technicians posts with a first in CS. That's a fantastic result that I'm sure you're proud of, and high-level development/engineering/research (or many others) employers will snap you up and really stretch you. Cleaning kids mess off keyboards will drive you potty in about six months time.

And interfere with your neighbours, who will do the same thing and put you right back where you started?* No, talk nicely to your neighbours and see if you can negotiate a way of co-existing peacefully. Or buy a cable. (*a good example for powdarrmonkey's book of things that aren't technical problems. *scribble*)

Can't decide which category I fall into... -
Rarely? You mean sometimes it works??

Just demonstrates (again) how fragile our infrastructure really is. Having to pay for a satellite link might cramp some spammers' style though
-
Do you want machines that work or will anything do? We're probably getting rid of both, but if you're not fussed the working ones go to a school elsewhere. Warwick, so near enough for you to collect easily.

Just run it so the graphical interface appears, tick mini setup and tell it to shut down.
