I had a very similar (if not the exact same) issue to you a few years ago. Acrobat X Pro came with our CS5 Master collection but installing acrobat wouldn't activate. When I spoke to adobe they told me I needed deploy atleast one of the core CS programs with it. I never tried as only 2 people needed pro so I did a manual install for them

For root element is missing: Do you have update 127 installed? On one of the clients go to C:\Program Files\RM\Connect\Data Access Layer\RM.Networks.Comms.Data.Dal.dll.config and check if the file is corrupt. If it is, delete the file. Then, look for the newest .old file and rename it to replace the deleted one. Then reboot the client or restart RM service host. Update 127 should fix this for you For the MSI Check the RM MSI logs on the client. If you packaged it yourself without enabling verbose logging, reimport the package with LOGGING=VERBOSE Logs can be found under: c:\Program Files\Research Machines\Network Management\LogFiles\MSI Logs\

you need to have a look in the system and application event logs and see what it says, also the RM specific logs under: RMNetwork\RMManage\LogFiles

I'm just in the middle of setting this up on our CC4 Network. So far ive got the exam centre service installed ok packaged and rolled out administrator dashboard for CC4 (to one machine ha - makes rebuild easier) packaged and rolled out invigilator dashboard for CC4 (to 5 machines ha) packaged and rolled out test player for CC4 - I had to create a separate MSI for each room to I could default the invigilator name per room without manually doing it. Got testing to do tomorrow. I must admit Pearson have the worst support ever. "we don't support silent installs, its beyond our scope" I've managed to package every bit of software (70+ packages) to silently deploy so if this doesn't work I wont be happy. --------------------------------------------------------- EDIT Decided to test it out since i'm remote'd in doing some other work. Logging in the PC with the admin dashboard and assigned some tests ok, logged onto invigilator dashboard and unlocked them etc, created a new user student user, logged onto the PC with the test software installed and it picked the invigilator and everything up without issue. Never had to copy anything to any profiles, maybe because a created my own msi for each room with the computer name already in?

Why don't you install it manually on a client and see if it is available for multiple applications? Apart from that, how did you create the package?

Check what zone IE thinks its in, as said above if it says internet zone then NTLM auth wont work. When I had this issue I added them to the intranet zone, I don't think trusted sites worked for me as IE still saw it as a (trusted) external. Cached profiles might also cause you a few issues (well they did for me but that could just be CC4)

I set up a whole VLAN for my test network bit overkill but have the capacity. Why not just get Vmware workstation or ESXi and set up a lab if you want to play around with DCs DNS DHCP etc? my home lab is only 1HP 1U server 2xquad xeons and 72gb ram and that can run anything i throw at it. What sort of networking are you wanting to learn? if your unsure of IP's / subnets / vlans / acls / switching etc then setting up a domain isnt going to be a massive load of help at first. You could try the network+ course for a good intro into networking

If you have 2008+ you could try the FSRM role, that will give storage reports as a HTML.
