Cheers, I've been looking at a few videos/reviews/forums/etc. Currently I have a 12" 2016 Macbook as my laptop but it's one of the lightweight fanless models so the performance is pretty limited especially now it's 4 years old. Other than that (and the butterfly keyboard which is total garbage) I quite like the device. Handy being able to run both MacOS/Windows/etc. Was mulling over buying one to replace my faulty 5 year old desktop as the performance of a modern laptop would be faster than it anyway plus I don't really game on my PC much these days either so I'm not bothered by the lack of a discrete video card.

If you can wait for another 2 weeks the replacement for the B450 (the imaginatively named B550) is about the be released. 15 June IIRC? This is the reason B450 boards are low on stock everywhere. Aside from a couple of spec upgrades the good thing about the B550 is that it'll have out of the box support for the whole range of 3000 series CPU's so no worrying about buying a motherboard and it not being compatible with your processor. I guess regarding spec it's always easy to say spend more money but would a 6-core Ryzen 5 3600 be worth considering as it's only about £30-40 more for potentially another 2 cores which I'd assume would be significantly quicker in multi-core apps?

Was mulling over ordering one of these (10th gen i5/16Gb/512Gb) to replace my old laptop (and faulty desktop PC)? Has anybody tried one? I'd have gone to a store to check it out but obviously that's not an option right now

So what's everyone's thoughts about the new Intel CPU's? From reading a few reviews it doesn't look like AMD has anything to worry about?

At my workplace the school does offer ~50% of the cost towards an entry level laptop (£300-400). However, in order to get that you have to write a letter to the headmaster stating what work duties/tasks you'll be carrying out on it and how it will benefit the school contributing towards it! So they will help out but you kind of have to volunteer to do work outside of school in return for it! Though I actually need a new computer I'm hesitant to take them up on the offer as it sounds like a potentially poisoned chalice!

The question would be why are staff being provided with laptops? Are they to be used whilst in school or is there an expectation staff will work from home because if that's the case then it's going to be pretty hard for the school to argue staff should spend their own money on the devices!

It's madness that 5 year old processors still go for hundreds of pounds second hand! How are you finding the Ryzen 3600X by the way? What motherboard did you go for with it? I'm pretty keen on the idea of getting a 3300/3600 and I want an ITX motherboard but right now my choices seem to be either a B450 or X570. Stock seems kind of limited (presumably with the B550 being out next month). Was going to go for the B450 as it's the cheaper of the current boards but I've read that not all B450 motherboards can support 3000-series Ryzen chips out of the box and some require a firmware update (which I don't think can be done without a working CPU!). That, and the lack of supply, was what put me off getting the B450 and waiting for the B550.

That's certainly what I'm finding. I was having a look through ebay at the weekend to see if I could find a suitable motherboard to replace my failed X99/i7-5930K/mATX one but they're all priced at over £100 from what I've seen so far. I also looked at buying a motherboard/CPU bundle second hand (I have 16Gb DDR4 memory I want to reuse so need something made in the last 5 years) but, as you say, second hand PC components seem stupidly expensive just now? I think it would probably make more sense to cut my losses and just buy a new Ryzen 3300 and a B550 motherboard (when they're out next month) to go with it as I figure I can get that for under £200 rather than spending £100 plus on second hand stuff. Especially as I can't be 100% certain my CPU is still working given I have no way to test it.

I noticed this with a small number of our parents (though not all in any particular group or anything) and I think it's due to them already being invited to the Classroom and having an existing Google Classroom invitation pending?

My PC died on me a few weeks ago (annoying timing given the current situation!) and it looks like it's either the CPU or motherboard which are dead. It's 5 years old so I'm gonna wait for the new AMD B550 Motherboards to be released next month, order a 3300 or 3600 to go along with it and see what I can salvage from my current PC. I think I'll maybe downsize to an ITX case as well.

I don't understand what Microsoft is trying to achieve with Surface Go anymore. Even with the edu-discount that Surface Go 2 is still ~£720 by the time you add the keyboard in M3/8Gb/128Gb spec. Even in potato-spec Pentium/4Gb/64GB eMMC with edu-discount it's still over £500 with the basically essential keyboard. That's just not competitive pricing for a device which is clearly aimed at education where it's primarily up against £200 Chromebooks and £300 iPads.

Personally I would just nip down to my local staples or office supply store. Most of them have range of chairs you can sit in and pick the one you find most supportive/comfortable.

I've been listening to a lot of stuff by a guy called Lukhash. Does a lot of remixes of old 8-bit computer tunes from the 80s! His original material is also great. That and a lot of SynthWave/Outrun music to keep from being deafened by the silence Also, how awesome is this cover of Castlevania's bloody tears! Or how about some orchestral Streetfighter 2 ?

That's pretty much what we did. Only had a couple of days notice to convert the laptops for offsite use so there wasn't really time to do anything beyond that.

There's a few good quips in it for the fans but overall a lot of the jokes felt kind of recycled and fell a bit flat IMO. Some rather poor performances from the supporting cast in my opinion as well. Especially next to the original crew. Worth a watch though if you're bored. Which you probably are given we're been stuck inside for getting in towards a month's quarantine now! I appreciated the cameo appearance

I cant believe Google added their logo/company name onto the onscreen virtual keyboard. Whoever thought up the idea needs shooting.... How did you get on with setting up GAM as we're also in the process of using it for bulk addition of parents email's as Google Guardians. Any issues or gotcha's when installing it?

Sony just unveiled what appears to be the final design for the PS5 'Dualsense' controller https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/04/07/introducing-dualsense-the-new-wireless-game-controller-for-playstation-5/ Not a huge departure from the PS4 Dualshock as far as I can see though the inclusion of a microphone will be handy. The "adaptive triggers" (L2/R2) with variable resistance sound interesting. Actually, I say not a big change but it's actually probably the most Sony have altered the design/style of the controller since the first dualshock released in 1997 so maybe this is a major update in relative terms! If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess

Warzone is the first call of duty game I've played in about a decade and it's really good fun. It's basically PUBG with the most annoying aspects removed, a better combat system, less bugs and a more polished game all round. 150 players on a large map at once as well! Would definitely recommend giving it a try That's not something I thought I'd say about a Call of Duty game. I'm sure Blizzard Activision will be along to ruin it with loot boxes, season pass's and microtransactions before long though!

That makes sense if it's a not-for-profit service being provided to benefit the community
