I'm looking to automate the backup of a particular folder on Windows 10, within which I have all my important files. I use Syncthing on my phone to backup files over local WiFi to my PC instantly whenever new files are added to a specific folder. I want a similar setup for windows, that regularly scans a particular folder for new files, backs up almost instantly & also encrypts it so that no one other than me can access it. I'm confused what hardware I should buy, like a NAS device or use an external hard drive connected to router or something else? Depending on the hardware, what software can scan for new files in a folder, encrypt & back them up for me? I don't mind paying more for a NAS device, but the advantages should also be real & not minor. (Perhaps someone could list the advantages?) Thanks

Ok, I was thinking of replacing my HDD with an SSD for the added read/write speed benefits & to obtain built in hardware encryption. I searched online for a good SSD & decided to buy this. The problem is, I want to be completely sure that it would work with my laptop, but I don't know what specifications I need to look on my laptop to ensure SSD compatibility. Thanks a lot everyone for replying I did try crucial scanner before writing the first post...It only gave me links from their website which was not sufficient enough for me... I needed more options... From what I understand, L in DDR3L stands for low voltage, meaning 1.35 V instead of 1.5 V.. So based on that, I've decided to buy this: Crucial Laptop DDR3 4 GB Laptop (CT51264BF160BJ) - Crucial : Flipkart.com And this was my second choice: ADATA Premier DDR3 4 GB Laptop (ADDS1600W4G11-R) - ADATA : Flipkart.com Can somebody please confirm whether these 2 are compatible with my laptop? Alright folks, I have a Lenovo G400s Touch laptop, with 4 GB RAM and has 1 memory slot free. I plan to add 4 more gigs of RAM to my laptop due to a certain software's requirements. I plan to buy the RAM online. But I'm struggling to understand what parameters I need to look at to find a compatible one. I did some research myself but couldn't find an article which clearly mentioned exactly what parameters HAD TO BE THE SAME as my current RAM for compatibility. I'm personally not able to find how much Volts my motherboard can handle, don't know where to find it. Performance as good as my current RAM will be OK for me, so can someone please explain to me exactly what parameters I need to look for RAM compatiblity and perhaps their significance? Greetings,people of edugeek, I turned my laptop on yesterday to find that two keys(delete and plus)were not working(nothing really happened to cause that).I tried using on screen keyboard(keys were working with on screen keyboard),uninstalled and reinstalled keyboard driver and am now convinced that it a hardware issue. I watched some videos on youtube on how to clean the laptop,but got confused.Some say don't use compressed air,while others say don't use vaccum cleaners(both have their own reasons).I wondering what i should do to fix the keys.Any help would be appreciated.I don't want to give my laptop to a technician. Thanks for your reply,my whole point of starting this thread was to understand the distribution of CPU and RAM usage to reduce heat generation with or without a cooling pad.It was because,as i said,some video media players used less CPU heating to provide the same level of performance,this increasing my laptop's life.I know that if i use programs which keep my laptop's CPU usage at 100,my laptop will overtime have cooling problems and would begin to auto shut down after at low levels of heating.I know that cuz i have lost a laptop like that before.I'm not really a gamer,but i use softwares which use high CPU power to do their function,i used the gaming part just as an example to understand better.So GPU isn't really a problem,whatsoever,i got to learn more:).Thanks for the optimmizing tips.I didn't really consider programs which use more RAM but less CPU a problem,its just that i often encounter more softwares which use very less of my RAM and a lot of my CPU,so i thought "WHY IS IT SO?Does CPU power have more priority over RAM". So i started a thread here.

That is exactly what i thought of,which brings me back to my original question.Why is it that some games,softwares use more CPU than RAM,while some,the other way?Is it how the programmer wanted them to be based on some convention?If the software used more RAM than CPU,i wouldn't be facing this problem at all.Is it just possible for games to use a lot more of one and a very less of another?

I do understand basically what you guys are saying,but i still have my question: As of my experience,games which keep my left %CPU in the CPU meter at about 50 run without any problems,but games which keep my %CPU at about 100 begin to cause lagging problems. In this case,having more of which is better?And my % power on the right circle of the CPU meter never goes above 65,why so?

Greetings people, I'm trying to understand the advantage of having more RAM and having a more GHz processor.I know that basically having more of them makes programs run smoothly,i just don't understand their basic working and effect on the computer's performance.I have a laptop with windows 7 and i'm always trying to keep the heat generation to a minimum.I normally watch the windows CPU meter for that: The circle on the left keeps fluctuating and the one on the right remains constant most of the time.I know that the one circle on the left shows us about the heat generation.I watch a lot of videos on my laptop,so to reduce heat generation,i was looking for a media player which keeps %CPU power on left circle to a minimum and offers same level of performance.I observed that the media players which used least %power on the left used relatively more %power on the right,not by much though(a few % more). So is there more advantage of having a more GHz processor than having more RAM or viceversa?I know that this is a very basic question,but i'm just not able to find the exact answer that i'm searching for. When i type in the same question on google,i get answers like the processor is the brain of the computer and stuff,but i just want to know how having more of it will affect the performance of my computer,when i play games or do other processes which require a lot of CPU power. Thanks for your advice Richard, As i said,i already did all of the stuff you mentioned which is possible to do though the OS. As for the hardware,i don't think my hardware has any problems and I've taken utmost care right from the beginning to not produce too much of heat.

Thanks guys,the problem seemed to be my antivirus.I found that after two days of searching and applying all optimizing techniques to windows.Kaspersky internet security 2012 seemed to work fine for almost 8 months,so i couldn't actually believe it when i found that. I've now upgraded to kaspersky internet security 2013 and it doesn't affect my start up time.And my boot is now faster than ever cuz i applied all optimizing tips i found from google. Thanks for this reference,but it seems too much complicated for a common man like me.

Hello people of edugeek, I'm a kind of person who likes to explore all different types of software out there.I keep installing and uninstalling softwares a lot of times. I've been using windows 7 64 bit for 8 months now without any problems. But recently for the past 15 days,my startup time has become very high.What i mean to say is,my windows loads up at normal speed and all the icons and programs load up quite fast,but anything i do..eg-Try to open up My computer,browser or even a simple right click...seem to be unresponsive or very slow for the first 15-20 minutes. I used a software called advanced system optimizer which has all the windows optimizing tools- Cleaning junk files and folders Defragging data Privacy cleaner Registry cleaner and defragger I also uninstalled all softwares which i dont use and reduced the number of programs which load at startup I also used CCleaner. But it seems that even after doing all that,my startup time becomes normal for like 1-2 boots,sometimes it never becomes normal. Now,could there be any other solution out there to increase my startup speed?Except for a reformat?cuz i have a lot of softwares installed with my custom settings,doing that all again can literally consume a lot of my time. Okay let me make this clear.. Your saying there is absolutely no way i can watch this in projector only mode?My laptop is also consuming a lot of cpu in mirroring these images. While a simple vga cable can do that? Wont standalone media upscalers still be very costly compared to usb to hdmi adapter?My hdmi converter is max 1080p which i know for sure. I can also set the resolution of extended display to 1080p,in which i can do everything except watching videos(Videos just remain still or blank on the extended display)

I just recently bought a usb to hdmi converter as i had a laptop and it didnt have an hdmi port,i installed all the drivers that came along with the cd packed in it,i even got it to work but there still exists a problem. Before i had a vga to vga cable,my laptop didnt support 1080p but my TV did so thats y i had to change the display to projector only mode to watch 1080p video,but as the quality wasnt good i decided to buy a usb to hdmi converter. Now when i connect the usb to hdmi converter to my TV,its working in mirror as well as duplicate mode,but not in projector only mode.As my laptop only supports 720p i can watch videos on my TV only in 720p resolution and not in 1080p.When i click projector only mode it blanks out for a while and then it says "No projector detected".Even when i click detect its not being detected. Windows 7 Home premium Mobile Intel® 4 Series chipset family I really would appreciate any kind of help cuz i bought the converter only to watch a perfect 1080p video. Thank u for ur time.

u mean a usb video card with a dvi or hdmi output and not vga output? this and vga to hdmi converter and all...dont they all provide the same output? well i heard vga splitters amplify the vga signals...how could they ruin it? reducing the resolution is sure an option but then picture looks like s*** if i reduce it lower than 1080p...

well sure did manage to keep my dongle away while using the vga cable...sure seems like a faulty lead....

well as u can see from the image,my vga cable already has one ferrite choke on each end,r u suggesting to put more on them?and yeah when i move the end of the cable connected to the tv,the image does vary,i have to adjust it to minimum ghosting always. Nope,not tried another one yet...

im getting a little bit of ghosting with that even at 1.2m,i guess i'll buy a thicker one...

ok now,would i really need a vga powered splitter or usb powered vga splitter for a short distance of only 1m?Cuz considering the range of the power products i find on the internet(about 20-30m and sometimes even more),1m is too short...

I would buy a buy a seperate gold plated vga cable first as mentioned by michael,and then if the ghosting still appears i would buy a vga splitter...however considering the words used by j17sparky,it seems that a costlier one wouldnt give me any effect at all at such a short distance...i hope that now my videos would just look the way they looked when i played them through usb...thanks a lot again.. btw just to mention,this is first time i have ever joined a forum to solve my problems and the result i got was quick and tremendous,im looking forward to sharing the little knowledge i have about computers and at the same time learning more about how stuff work...
