Hi All, In school we have a media suite consisting of around 20 PC's all running XP and using programs like adobe premier pro and Photoshop. At the moment the suite is sitting on its own workgroup and user accounts need to be created for the students as and when they start the course. The way i would like it is to have all the machines on the domain and have a seperate domain controller on the network that deals with the GPO's and user accounts for just that room. Also what is a problem they are creating movies that sometimes as big as 6gb and need to be saved and what i dont want to happen is this file to be dragged back up and down the network so i would like a local file store that they can save to. How would i go about this? Cheers inadvance

Hi All, We use Desktop Authority to map our printers for our users based on which room location. But windows seems to save the printers as the students move around the school. Is there any scripts available to delete all printers @ logon? cheers

Hi all, i have installed live communicator and i have a couple of problems that seem to be happening. 1. when someone messages me i get the popup window in the bottom right hand corner and when i try to click it to open the conversation there is nothing there. But if you look at the conversation on the other users screen its all there. 2. i have populated all the groups already for Staff and i created a few for SLT and Tech Support etc.. i also put all the staff in a group. i noticed that if i want to invite everyone to a conversation in the staff group the option is greyed out... but its fine for the others. Anyone else come across these problems?

Or you can do what we do and write a script that emails me and all of SMT everynight which machines and which rooms are left on and it soon stops!!

Hi all, We have a MSA1000 with one controller init... when we brought it the company who setup the SAn populated it with 7 discs. Since then we have purchased another 7 discs.. how do i install the new discs? Anyone have any ideas?

Hi all, everytime the LA do an upgrade on the sims server i have to go around each teacher laptop and install the new update! (basically run sims as admin). how can i get aroud this permissions problem so that staff have access to update the client? - is it a folder permission? - local admin permission? or? Cheers Steve

We had a training session last week with 40 members of staff and we were showing them how to assign an assignment to students. Now for those who know SLK it then goes away and searching for everyone who is in the SLK learner group. When we asked 40 members of staff to try this the webserver crawled to a halt. Is this normal? and have we got SLK setup correctly? We have brand new Hp servers so server spec is not an issue... cheers

Thanks for your responses... Surfing the net there are lots of discussions on Mandatory Profiles and i can never find a true answer on the subject... When you log on with a local user and you setup the user profile... What sort of things do you change?

Hi can anyone help me here... I have installed office 2003 from a network share and allowed all groups access to it that need it so they can installed features if nneds to. But everytime a user logs on and runs an office application they get a windows installer box? this will only happen for the first time you run office... Any ideas?

Hi, i want to get a feel for how other people are setting up and maintaining Students and Staff (Mand) Profiles. 1. How do people setup the profiles? Do you have to run each indiviual piece of software they are going to use? 2. What size are peoples profiles? (no jokes please hehe) 3. & How come that when i setup a profile for Students, the username i took the profile from has access to a piece of software but when i try to apply it to another student they get a permissons error..? i think i know the answer to this but i'm going to ask it anyway.. I have installed LCS 2005 and Messenger 5.1... All working ok and signing in... Installed the Address book service and im not sure if messenger 5.1 is compatible with ABS... can anyone confirm this?

Yer i have looked at communicator 2005. but i can't find the download anymore because of communicator 2007 and i believe you have to pay per user for this? is this correct?

Windows Messenger 5.1 is installed but it does not have the SIP communication checkbox that you need to configure? Anyone else had this prob?

Hi, we use also our own inhouse built system made from PHP. We don't use a message bank as it makes room for error... Teachers becoming lazy and giving male students female comments and so on...
