Hi all, Over the summer we had all staff laptops in for imaging. We installed a fresh copy of XP and all drivers. Whilst the laptops are inside the network they are all fine internet works ok and all resources and programs. When some teachers take them home they are unable to get the internet working on their own isp? All the laptops are running XP, all ip's are DHCP, the proxy server is unticked in IE, domain policy - firewall off. I have looked over the pc and i can't seem to find a problem however im sure if this has anything to do with it but in the services there is a server called webclient and on most of the laptops its showing as "Stopping". if i logon to the account that they use when they go home and put in our proxy server then the internet works fine... I then said to one member of staff that was having an issue to bring in their wireless router and i will make sure her connection between the router was ok.. which it was.. what else could be wrong? Ohh i should add the difference between them before the summer and now is IE7 and SP3

Hi Pete, Thanks for getting back to me again. I rebooted the server late last night and thought i would check on it again in the morning. I have taken these screenshots when everyone is taking their registers and the CPU is fluctuating from around 3% to 80%. Do you think if we upgraded the memory on the server this would make any difference? I am not sure why there is 3 instances of sql. they dont seem to be taking another cpu usage up but certainlty memory. Cheers Steve

Hi Pete thanks for your reply. here is the server specs... We have around 70 members of staff that use sims and pars all day and we have developed sharepoint webparts that read information from the sims database for our Administration side of things. So this server is a very busy bee. Yes it does ramp up.. im looking at it now and everyone has gone home and the CPU usage is 1%. Here is the top critters on the process list we have about 81 processes running. thanks for the reply again

Hi, We are having problems with Sims and Pars at the moment. Basically Pars freezes during busy periods of the day and people are getting frustrated with it. So i did some digging and i have been monitoring the Server for a week and noticing the server is maxing out at 100% processor usage all day. (see attached) Would i be right in thinking that we need to buy a new server with more horses? What would you recommend?

Hi Can someone help... I have no internet connection on some of our desktops in our IT rooms. 1) all the dns and DHCP settings are ok 2) can ping Google 3) Machines next to it are fine... Regards

Hi Whats happening is we used to have an old DNS server and it has been redundant for some time. I noticed the oter day clients started getting the dns of that server. So i logged onto the server and in the "configure your server wizard" it was still listed as a DNS server. So i uninstalled it as a DNS server and its still doesn't make a difference. How is the clients picking up the DNS address from this server? is it in the error logs its says that this server is now the master browser? HELP!! Cheers

Hi, We changed the ip of the dns servers over the holidays and changed the settings in the DHCP server Scope. But for some reason so pc's are still picking up the old ip. Is there a way to flush the DNS settings over domain level? Cheers Steve

Hi All, We are running a citrix enviroment in our school and most people log on to dumb terminals and then onto one of our 8 blade servers. We are also using mandatory profiles and we a user logs off the profile gets wiped from the server. A problem i have come across with mandatory profiles is that even though we have group policies in place to set the users homepage, it sets the homepage to MSN. In the past we kept the profiles on the servers and we the user logged off and back on again it then mapped the homepage to the desired intranet page. However as you could imagine this clogged up the c:\ of the terminal server. Obviously now everytime a user logs on to a server it creates a brand new local profile and sets the homepage as MSN. Is there anyway i can stop this? because my users never get redirected to our intranet site. Thanks

Hi, All our Staff have laptops with wireless capabilities and we have a few wireless points in certain areas i.e board room and staff room etc. I want a way in which staff dont have to put in the wireless key all the time. I have been reading about a radius server but how much work are they to setup? Cheers

OK i think i have narrowed it down to the switches 2950's i have done the same configuration on a 2960 and i get an ip straight away. i can also ping the default gateway from every switch except the one i am trying to get working? Could it be a firmware upgrade?

OK update!! I took my a new switch (erased Startup) and went down to the main router and bypassed to the switch in the middle. i then connected all the cables and configs the same as they are upstairs and all seems to be working fine? its until i go to the switch upstairs thats 2 hops away that i can not get an ip.. All links are set as trunks!!! What could be the issue?

HI Im setting up a new classroom and i want to put them on a separate Vlan. The Problem: i have set the interface vlan up on the router and i know all this works fine because i have setup a port on that vlan and i get the correct address from the dhcp server... i then go to a switch which is 2 hops away, all the vlans are created correctly on the switches on route and all the links which are from the router are setup as trunks and allow all vlans. I connect a PC and the switch can't get a dhcp address? i set the port back to the default vlan and it gets an ip and works fine (so connectivity is ok) All the encapsulation is set to dot1q? any ideas?

ok i found the problem... but not the solution when i put my default gateway back in the ip configuration for the internal card the internet and all other services are restored back to the other subnets. Which is obvious i guess because without it in there the server would know how to transport packets to its own subnet, but can't transport packets back to the default gateway which then does the routing.. But this obviously is no a recommended ISA setup.. so has anyone got an idea how to configure this properly ? regards

mmm.. ive just created 4 entries for my subnets and then created a firewall policy to allow ping from these sources to local host. Then went to my machine and ping the server and i am getting no reply? any ideas?

Hey all, We have 4 Class b subnets on our network and we have an ISA server which supplies a backup broadband for (when) the LA broadband goes down. The ISA server ip address is obviously setup on one of these subnets. But the issue is anyone on the other ip ranges is cannot access the internet from that isa server? It was all working correctly until we re-installed it on the new range that we had setup? i have specified all the internal network ranges. Any help would be great!! Thanks

Hi All, i was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice? Probably like yourselves our internet provider is our LA and they also provide our web filtering. But on the old occasion our students find out websites that we want immediataly blocking. Does anyone operate a web filtering system lan side of their internet connection?

We have one of these brought it not long ago and seemed to setup fine... I am having a bit of trouble with the tapes. i think it is the software though. I setup the media for a two week rolling program and it seems to be moving the tapes around and overwriting the wrong days? anyone else having this trouble?

HI all, i am having a problem trying to assign an MSI in GP. Its a program called Securus and it let me assign the old version but now we have an update it ain't letting me assign it. Im getting the following error: "Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from package. Run validation on the package to ensure the package is correct." Any ideas?
