  1. ah so its that simple..
  2. Just reverting back to the work at home rights. I found this on the microsoft website.. So its seems i can give staff a copy of office for example for their desktop pc etc.. Education institutions that have acquired licences through Microsoft Academic Volume Licensing programs may grant their faculty and staff the right to use a second copy of a limited selection of products on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes. The following is an overview of the Work At Home rights available through each of our academic volume licensing programmes. But my question is how do i know when they have uninstalled the software.??
  3. Yes i was wondering about staff having access to the software at home. I was under the impression though that because we have purchased a licence for that staff member to use on their work machine that they were allowed to install that software on their home device for the duration of their employment.
  4. What so they would need a new key?
  5. I'm sorry if this has been asked already. In regards to the staff having access to the software at home once you have brought the licence. How do people police this? How do you make a member of staff uninstall the software? Do you get them to sign an agreement? or do you build it into the ICT AUP?
  6. Hi, Not sure if anyone has seen this issue before? We run a windows 7 domain here with everyone having a laptop device.. We do have a few desktops on windows 7 but not many. So all students have a laptop and now and again some students come to us and sometimes its the same ones complaining their laptop won't let them logon and its says "The Trust relationship between the primary domain failed" I've searched the internet and found a couple of posts saying that remove the PC from the domain and rejoin it. This i admit works but i don't feel it is a log term fix. The PC's in question have all updates installed. Anyone seen this before and have a fix?
  7. Hi, We've just brought a new set of laptops for the next intake. When we try and login to the laptop (wirelessly) with either admin or non admin credentials we get a message saying "Connecting to Wireless" then after a few seconds it says "unable to connect to wireless. Logging on.." and then logs on fine. The way in which we have them setup is prelogon the machine authenticates to the radius server and recieves a DHCP addr from the guest scope (which has an expiry time of 1 hour). Which i know the machine is successfully connecting because it recieves GP updates etc. Then when the user logs in they get switched to there correct vlan, so it recieves another IP from the correct scope. Its between these two stages where it recieves this message. What is strange is we have been operating like this for the past year with no problems and if i take an older laptop which is in the same OU and has the same policies and is member of the same group .. it logs in fine. Also if i continue to login on the new laptops then the user recieves all the correct profile/policies. I should also add these laptops are a different make but they have the same image apart from drivers ofcourse. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  8. Hi, We have an issue here that seems to occur more and more. Info :::: All students have a folder redirection policy for their my documents setup with 500mb of space. There is some policies in place to prevent saving of .exe and other unwanted files in a student directory. We give all students a windows 7 laptop device and we have a handful of windows 7 desktops around the academy. A regular scenario would be for a student to complete a peice of work on their laptop in one lesson and then more to the library to finish the work off on a desktop machine. They then often report to us that the file they have been working on ten minutes ago is not there. So we load up their laptop and on the sync icon is a red cross indicating there are errors. Unfortunatley students don't have access to the sync centre but what they can do is right click can select "Sync All". This then transfers the documents over to their network share and all is ok. But my question is what could be causing this? They have plenty of drive space remaining. Any help would be great. Regards
  9. HI All, I've just taken on supporting a local primary school which have RM CC3 installed. They also have asked me to supply them new laptops for staff which they want to use away from the network and to be honest i wanted to keep them away from RM CC3. My question is.. considering they have CC3 can i join these laptops to the domain as normal and have them login in as normal? Also can i apply Group policies to them outside of RM? Basically can i operate the network as a vanilla network and RM side by side? Cheers
  10. Hi, anyone else had this problem? Can send a normal email to the same user. I keep getting an undeliverable message when trying to send an outlook calendar invite for a meeting Thanks
  11. Well we brought the Acer Travelmate 8371 this year which were £375 a unit excl VAT but we are finding that the build quality on them is too a little poor.
  12. Hi, We give every student a laptop here that they use for the duration of their career with us. We are currently identifying which laptop to purchase for next year as the ones we currently have aren't suitable. Does anyone else provide students with a laptop and if so what make/model are they? If not does anyone know of a laptop 13.3" screen that has at least a 6 hour battery? Thanks in advance
  13. We have one, however i don't run it, but from what i can see it works well and its effective. The JCB Academy | Facebook
  14. Yes but not for a student although i see the printer deployment in the policy i set it against. I should also add i re-imaged a machine so it was fresh and still it wont deploy to a student group. Even if i try to add the printer manually through the directory but it fails to connect. There must be something wrong with the printer on the print server surely.
  15. Yes i've done this and it works fine and the students can print to the printer. However we have a piece of software which is a follow me print solution and it requires the printer to have a specific name. ___ I have also done this and if i logon to the laptop as a student then i get no printer. If a member of staff logons to the same machine it maps the printer no problem. It all started when i took the mapping off the students and wanted to reassign it and now its stopped assigning.. Even though i can see it in the group policy..
  16. Hi, We have one printer within the school that we deploy to the students/staff. I was deploying it to the users via the Print Management console in server 2008. All was fine until we decided to update the driver to the lastest version to try and iron out some printing issues. However i tried to take the printer off the students until we had finished working on it so we wouldn't get them coming to us saying its not printing for them. So i took the assignment out of print management and next time they logged on it wasn't there. however now that the printer is fixed i wanted to give it back to them and using the same method i redeployed it to the students. Guess what it won't shoe up for them on their print list. The deployment for the staff is still there and they are using the printer happily. It seems to me that because i told it to remove the printer from the students that it tries to add the printer on logon and then takes it off again. You can see when a student is logging on it says" Deploying Printer Connections" Anyone had this issue?
  17. I should really move this as it has nothing to do with R2 its just Server 2008. But our problem we have now is we installed the new driver for the printer and every student was asked to enter a username and password to install the driver. So i tried the point and print group policy and that wasn't removing the username box. So i then thought if i remove the printer using the print management feature i could then reinstall it after.. But now it doesn't even give the students the option. Staff its fine students its not. If i try and look in the directory for the printer and add it that way it gets all the way to "finishing installation" and then throws an error. Does anyone know of a way in which i can get round this? 1 thing that i can't do is rename the printer. Heeelp!!
  18. Good Point.. i too will forget.. I don't need to do anything else do i?
  19. Yer.. I think I've done that.. See attached.
  20. mmm. Thanks 1. I don't want to do that.. 2. I've tried restarting the machines and it still doesn't pick up the new driver 3. I've configured this in the group policy but it still doesn't install printer driver users still get the elevated user box even though i've turned it off in GP
  21. Hi, I have a printer that we deployed with the Print management functionality in Server 2008. All was working fine until we updated the driver to the latest version to fix a problem. Now when a non admin user tries to print they get presented with a Install driver box and they can't continue until they have entered admin credentials. Is there a way to sort this? Cheers
  22. This is great however our students were saving work/games in their local desktop/Documents in the Users profile. So i hide the link to the users profile. But know if you right click in the navigation pane you get the option to show all folders and it reappears AAAArgghhh!
  23. Hi All, For the past week i have been trying to find a way of stopping our students from being able to access the C:\users\%USERNAME% folder from the navigation pan in explorer. I then thought I’d cracked it by hiding the favourites section. But now i found out that if you right click in the navigation pane and click "show all folders" it reveals them again. This is allowing some students that are clever enough to find out the ability to save games on the local machine as I’m using FSRM to disallowing those file types from their documents so they are trying to find a way round it. I want to be able to remove the navigation pane completely as i think it’s pointless anyway. I've not needed it before so i guess we wouldn't miss it. I've also found a way to hide the navigation pane. But it just lets the user show it again from the organize menu. Does anyone know away i can do this?
  24. Hi All, We are a brand new academy and we give every student a laptop device that they use and take home. All we want to ask is that parents buy themselves some laptop insurance incase of damage to the device. Does anyone know a suitable company that offers insurance? or is someone doing this already? Please advise Thanks
  25. We virtualise everything here except one domain controller. Have you got a backup broadband line? Are these servers mission critical? if the broadband line goes down is it the end of the world?
