  1. cheers just testing the domains that @jinnantonnixx suggested it seems that OPENDNS is blocking them. just waiting the 3 mins now. also we are using smoothwall and will checkout the category for them, cheers @Tsonga
  2. Good morning all, The network I inherited has iTunes blocked, i have added a few URL's to the unfiltered list but this doesnt seem to have helped. Apparently it used to work but doesnt now. Does anyone have an idea how I can get this working? We have some iPads that need setting up and apps installing. Thanks
  3. really supprised by the lack of apple in this thread. i am considering moving myself. although i would fiddle too much with android and want a phone to "just work" my iphone 4 is 2 years old and works like a charm still. i cant think of much of a sensible reason to upgrade other than *new toy*
  4. we have the ability to enter the proxy address but below it states that it will only work for the browser and not other apps
  5. Good morning all, does anyone know of a way that i can get android working through our proxy. it works for the browser but as it states on the screen it wont work on 3rd party apps. i am not brilliant with android as i am using th'iphone, but would consider moving if i could get this working. at present we have a member of staff who is struggling and whilst its not technically work he just wants to read is petrol head app whilst having a cuppa. Thanks
  6. we have a few, and the only reason for this is that they are connected to engineering machines that dont support vista/7/8 drivers. these machines dont do much else than run milling/routing/laser blahs
  7. how many students have you on the VPN?
  8. what are folks using as their VPN client? we currently use the Open VPN client but are having a few issues with it at the moment.
  9. cheers i did this this morning and success, have been stuck invigilating since then and only just ate! thanks all!
  10. i have one user (principal!) who cant access his network home folder. i have finally got it to map (as well as other shares which can now be successfully accessed) but the home folder brings up the error H:\ refers to a location that is unavailable. etc etc if i disconnect the drive and remap it works, if i browse to it manually it works. i have checked the security permissions on the home folder and his account has full access. i have removed permission from the home folder and readded i am trying to move/rename the folder but something is stopping me EDIT renamed orignal folder, created new folder - FAILED dropped from domain added again - FAILED logged in as test users - FAILED checked machine groups - FAILED Logged on as me on his machine - FAILS Logged on as him on my machine - SUCCESS!!! so its the machine errrrr dunno where to proceed now lol other than reinstall, which i havent the time for really now as i dont have the drives for it at hand please help....its the head so i dont wanna lose my head
  11. cheers fingers are crossed!
  12. thats how its setup atm. HDD in a caddy on my machine. the machine was reimaged yday, he took it downstairs logged on eeek'ed at his files were gone and came back up. i immediatly removed the drive. GDB has found some files but not others. currently running power data recovery (free) another 3 hours wait now has anyone ideas about the CSC folder? i can see the rest of the file structure pre install just not that one. i know win does strange things with that folder anyway
  13. had one of our deputies having various issues with his laptop, as it was the old NMs laptop with loads of crap installed and god knows what tweaks i decided to reimage. it seems his files havent been syncing and the server copies are from last summer! the hdd has a fresh OS on it now. i have run get data back on it but in the csc folder there is nothing useful (d1-d8 folders). Has anyone any ideas where to procede? thanks
  14. cant get virgin in our town. dad went with infinity and his works perfectly, his mate went with ....... cant remember who and his was half the speed, always having issues. i was already with bt for normal BB and that worked fine
  15. exactly, as said i now have a new hub, whilst i havent tested the streaming, i was crying over an rdp connection last night. the other thing is that whilst i can do a speed test and get 70 odd sometimes it can go as low as 1 or 2 then shoot back up. browsing the net is quick but not lightening!
  16. the home hub has three cables that go externally to my office upstairs with hp microserver, pc, printer. another is going to a mini switch connecting raspberrypi (xbmc!), xbox, digital stream, tv, bluray player wireless is 2x iphones, ipad, 2x laptops, wii, 3ds obviously not all on at once, normal use is server, raspberry pi, iphone/ipad
  17. silly question do you mean the homehub or the white box? I have received a new homehub at the weekend but haven't tested it in anger yet
  18. I have had infinity for a while now and am still not happy! i can do a speed test and its great, amazing in fact 60-80!!! The issue is that I struggle to do simple things. Streaming the radio constantly breaks up from my phone in the same room as the router, RDP connections internally are crap (from PC-PC they end the session, at one point it did it about 10 times in a row after being connected for seconds; from ipad to PC it becomes unresponsive). they have done line test after line test and nothing! engineer out, nothing! i pretty much had the same kit connect when i had normal BB and all was OK. Has anyone any ideas! just to clarify its on both wired and wireless connections, PC and server wire, media and tv stuff wire, phones laptops wireless.
  19. looks good but prezi looks better Prezi - Ideas matter.
  20. We were recently taken ownership of 20 ipads for student use (wooohooo grunt) at the moment i am stuck as to how to securely configure these. our wireless connects via radius, and smoothwall requires authentication too. i dont want the kids logging into these devices as then they will know how to and bring their own ipads etc in. I am looking into apple configurator but understand we need a mac to run it on. at present i want to be able to lock down the wireless settings, contact, calendar. TBH i dont know why they are needed we run a one laptop per child, but laser etching the case was fun!!! how have others managed achieve a secure solution
  21. 26 and childless although the gf wants one i'm still undecided.
  22. has anyone tried this? any joy? any issues?
